It's not all done and dusted yet. This pair have been around a long time and Mahmudullah scored centuries against New Zealand and England at the last World Cup in Australia.

  2. Ban 63-4published at 17 overs

    Mahmudullah 11, Shakib 22

Decent over from Neesham. Four runs off it. Run pressure is not really an issue for Bangladesh, though. They are not chasing a big total. Their wicket tally is the problem. And if one more is added to that it is likely to prove fatal to their hopes.

  4. Ban 59-4published at 16 overs

    Target 266

There are signs that this pair have weathered the storm somewhat now. Shakib spots a short Milne ball and is on it in a flash to pull for four.

Bangladesh can still win this. Which is not something I though I'd write a few overs ago. They probably won't. But they can. Don't go anywhere just yet.

  5. Ban 53-4published at 15 overs

Jimmy Neesham, the river Taff flowing behind him, charges in as replacement for the excellent Southee, whose opening spell reads as such: 7-1-26-3.

Solid start from right-arm medium-pacer Neesham until his final ball as Williamson's poor dive allows a push from Shakib to cross the boundary.

As a teaser for his upcoming over, here is Milne bowling Mushfiqur...

There's something reminiscent of Shane Bond with Adam Milne. It's his pace and the general thickness of his frame.

  7. Ban 47-4published at 14 overs

He has some wheels on him does Milne. His penultimate ball is short and flies past the edge of Mahmudullah, to oohs and aahs from behind the stumps.

The Bangladesh batsman gets two from the final ball with a push down the ground.

Shakib has to make sure he doesn't get out. He can't give his wicket away - somebody's got to stick around.

Bangladesh can go at three an over and if they need 190 in the last 30 overs, it's not inconceivable they can get them. They just have to see themselves through the threat of Tim Southee who is likely to bowl his overs out here.

  10. Ban 44-4published at 13 overs

    Target 266

Bangladesh gives the DJ a rare opportunity to play his boundary tunes as Shakib cuts Southee for four. Mahmudullah then ends the over with a clubbed, lofted shot to cow for another four.

These two batsmen both have ODI centuries to their name. They are capable of winning the game for Bangladesh. Slim hope remains.

  11. How's stat?!published at 16:52 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

48 of the 60 deliveries by Southee and Boult in the opening powerplay were dot balls.

  12. Ban 35-4published at 12 overs

    Target 266

Mahmudullah gets off the mark with a pushed two to off, but despite that and a boundary, it is New Zealand's over again. It has been a ruthless bowling display thus far.

Mushfiqur has been done by the pace of Milne. No foot movement, 91mph, and middle stump has been removed. It's a big, big ask from here.

    WICKETpublished at 11.4 overs

    Mushfiqur b Milne 14 (Ban 33-4)

That will teach Mushfiqur to club Adam Milne for four. After slapping a boundary down the ground, the bowler strikes back next ball with a rapid ball that slices right through the batsman's defence and uproots middle stump. Emphatic. It is Mushfiqur's 30th birthday today, and he will cry if he wants to.

Hard to see how Bangladesh come back from this now.

It's a very impressive display of seam movement. We didn't see this when the Bangladeshi bowlers were bowling. I thought it was excellent deliveries to pick up those three wickets.

  17. Ban 28-3published at 11 overs

    Target 266

New Zealand's modest total means Bangladesh can remain in survival mode for now. But that can't last forever. The Kiwi first change bowlers will be a big influence on this. If they continue the assault after Boult and Southee the sheer weight of pressure will probably do for Bangladesh.

This is a big partnership. Shakib nicks a single, Southee gifts another run from a wide and then Mushfiqur claims a well-run two with a prod to off. Progress. Only small, but welcome nonetheless from Bangladesh.

    Jeremy Coney
Ex-New Zealand captain on Test Match Special

Shakib has got to think back to Christmas, when he took 217 off New Zealand in Wellington. He literally cut them all over the park, continually sending the ball down to backward point.

  19. Ban 24-3published at 10 overs

Trent Boult is steaming in. He's furious about that dropped catch. Luke Ronchi is taking the ball at head height behind the timbers. Five dot balls follow the dropped catch. Plenty happening.

That was a tough one. He's a fraction wider, but it was his catch. Trent Boult will be absolutely fuming.
