Mushfiqur dropped on 8published at 9.1 overs

    Ban 20-3

Oh no! Trent Boult deserves a wicket and he should have one when Mushfiqur pokes to Ross Taylor at slip but the right-hander, diving to his left, makes a meal of it and deflects the ball to the boundary instead of pouching it. Double-whammy.

Every single delivery, you just think a wicket is coming.

  3. Ban 20-3published at 9 overs

Close to the fourth wicket. Shakib cuts at a short Southee ball and sends it just over the diving Guptill at gully. More hands in air and frustrated groans as the Kiwi opener subsequently beats the bat outside off. Every ball is a serious challenge for the Bangladesh pair.

  5. Ban 18-3published at 8 overs

    Target 266

We haven't had a wicket in three overs. In context, this is a minor achievement for Bangladesh. Baby steps from Mushfiqur and Shakib.

At some stage, the New Zealand bowlers could change to that cross-seam delivery, which is what worked for England.

  7. Ban 15-3published at 7 overs

New Zealand keep their boot firmly on Bangladesh's neck. A rare single comes from an even rarer Southee loose ball that Mushfiqur flicks to fine leg. It is the only run off the over.

Here is how Southee picked up his third wicket of the innings...

Trent Boult has a massive smile on his face. He said the other day these white balls would never swing. Well, it's nipping back in now.

  9. Ban 14-3published at 6 overs

    Target 266

Can't take your eyes off this. Every delivery looks like it might result in a wicket. Boult pins Mushfiqur on the lid with a short ball as he keeps the batsmen guessing.

Even when the Bangladeshi players get a decent amount of bat on the ball, the Kiwi fielders deny them a run, with Broom diving to stop at point.

Shakib is a very experienced batsman. He has to make a very definite move with his feet. He's got to give himself a bit of time. It's not the pace that should worry the Bangladesh players with Southee - it's the movement.

  11. Ban 12-3published at 5 overs

I was pretty certain that was absolutely plum, but the ball tracker shows that the ball was actually rising over the stumps. However, Bangladesh have no reviews, having used it in a failed attempt to overturn Tamim's dismissal.

Southee sees out a wicket maiden by keeping new man Shakib al Hasan in check. The way this is going, Boult and Southee are going to end this as a contest within 10 overs.

Soumya lbw Southee 3 (Ban 12-3)

And another one gone! This is brilliant stuff from New Zealand and from their two opening bowlers in particular. Southee gets another ball to jag back at speed and Soumya is too slow to react, standing in his crease as the ball slams into his static back pad. No doubts. That is gone. Bangladesh are crumbling.

It's a great start. New Zealand will feel they're back in the game now. But Mushfiqur is a very compact little fighter. They do have a longish tail, though.

  14. Ban 12-2published at 4 overs

No let-up from the Kiwis as Boult keeps the two batsmen in check. They need to see off this opening salvo. The required total is not huge, but it will start to look bigger and bigger with each wicket.

Here are the two moments that have out New Zealand firmly in charge...

  15. Ban 11-2published at 3.1 overs

Nope. Didn't carry. Not far off and worth another look, but Soumya Sarkar survives.

I don't think that carried. I think the gloves, or the body, just took all the sting out of it to carry it through to the slips.

  17. Umpire reviewpublished at 3.1 overs

    Ban 11-2

Bangladesh are all over the shop. Boult draws another emergency shot from a darting, short ball that Soumya has to fend at to send the ball towards slip. Guptill dives in and claims it, but did it bounce first. I suspect so, but we're going to have a look upstairs...

  18. Ban 11-2published at 3 overs

    Target 266

A play and a miss from Mushfiqur Rahim as his innings gets of to a nervy start. It was short of length from Southee but seamed and rose sharply. You'd have to be in incredible nick to get a bat on that.

He's pushed way ahead of himself and it's caught the outside edge of the bat. There's, again, a little hint of movement away from the right-hander. In England you have to let the ball move and do its work. Two key men out: the dasher and the glue.

That's a tremendous ball from Southee, and it was just the thinnest of edges.
