  1. SA 142-3published at 29 overs

I can't tell who made the call. Du Plessis dropped in front of square on the off side and set off. De Villiers was slow out of the blocks. By the time he was up to top speed, it was too late. David Miller is the new man. South Africa are in the departure lounge.

It has not been a happy tournament for AB de Villiers with the bat - scores of 4, 0, 16. India manage to pick up wickets at reasonable intervals and keep the run-rate down.

That is a huge moment. It was a risky single - and if AB de Villiers can't make it, there wasn't a run there.

De Villiers run out 16 (SA 140-3)

What has happened here? Tragedy for South Africa, massive moment for India. AB de Villiers, running for the striker's end, dives like Superman but can't beat Hardik Pandya's throw from point. MS Dhoni does the rest. Was that De Villiers' call? Never seemed like a single was on.

Dhoni is clenching his fists, Kohli thinks he has him. This could be a big moment.

Douglas Elder: AB de Villiers serving another timely reminder of how little I've achieved as a human.

  8. SA 139-2published at 28 overs

Du Plessis 27, De Villiers 15

Jasprit Bumrah does indeed return, India hunting that big wicket of ABDV. Bumrah has such a jerky action. It's as if there are few frames missing from the TV pictures. De Villiers has to get his toes out of the way of a yorker, but South Africa are moving. This stand is worth 23 runs in 22 balls.

It's good to see a South Africa batsman using his feet - it's one thing they haven't done in this innings. I also think India have got this wrong. They should be bowling their two best bowlers - Bumrah and Ashwin - at these batsmen because this is the vital partnership.

  10. SA 132-2published at 27 overs

Du Plessis 25, De Villiers 10

Shall we take a moment to reflect on Australia's exit? Two no-results then beaten by England - one of the funnier exits from a cricket tournament. You fly halfway round the world, only get one game in, then have to go home. Let me know about any wasted cricketing journeys that you've had.

South Africa will need 240 or 350 here. That means well over 200 in the second half of the innings.

  12. SA 131-2published at 26 overs

Thanks, Kal. AB has been a bit dozy in this tournament, but looks in the mood in the sunshine. He gets going with a rasping drive off Hardik Pandya through the covers for four, then plays a sort of leaning, dancing, upwards cut that goes to the man on the point boundary. I'd like to watch him bat for an hour.

  13. SA 119-2published at 25 overs

Captain AB de Villiers is in the new man. He doesn't go for a golden duck this time.

Halfway through the innings, who do you think will be the happier team? After that wicket, the momentum is currently with India. Stephan Shemilt will see you through the next 25 overs.

It was an attempted fetch from outside the off stump and De Kock just missed it. It's unlike him not to carry on. South Africa will rue not being more aggressive in those first 10 overs.

  15. wicket

    De Kock b Jadeja 53

He won't be converting this one into a 100. We built his record against India up too much. He goes to sweep a quicker one, Jadeja finds some turn, it creeps through under the bat and hits off-stump.

    Big wicket for India.

He does tend to go big - he just keeps on going, consistently. He has 12 one-day hundreds in 84 games.

  18. 50 runs

50 for de Kockpublished at 24 overs

    SA 116-1

The South African reaches his 50. A solid innings, has run well, found the gaps and hit the odd boundary.

Five times he has scored a half century against India, and worryingly for the opposition, he has gone on to convert each one of them into a hundred.

  19. SA 110-1published at 23 overs

Faf du Plessis has done so well since he came in, continues to freely find the singles. He pushes one through the covers but the outfield is slow and they run three.

Six from the over with De Kock just one away from 50.

It's gone midday and The Oval crowd see that as the right time to introduce a Mexican wave.

Pandya replaces Ashwin. Du Plessis, feet planted firmly in the crease, nibbles at a wide one and fortunate to get away with it. The crowd appreciate the efforts of Virat Kholi, who sprints around the boundary to cut off a four.

One wicket to fall today. It's been a successful return to the India team (so far) for Ashwin. Here's his dismissal of Amla...
