It was a nothing shot, hanging at the line, playing yards from his body. Not a good shot, I was expecting more from him.

Pakistan are now in real trouble.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 25.4 overs

    Imad c Dickwella b Pradeep 4 (Pak 137-6)

Pakistan are throwing this one away. There will be no heroics from the local lad, as Imad Wasim perishes with all the resistance of an overdunked biscuit. It's nothing more than channel from Nuwan Pradeep, just back of a length. Imad hangs the bat out to dry and the keeper does the rest. Sri Lanka are sniffing the semi-finals.

It's about managing the gaps, picking up the momentum and Pakistan should be home. Don't worry about the fall of wickets. The pitch is still a good one to bat on.

  4. Pak 132-5published at 25 overs

    Malinga 6-2-26-1

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Could the stage be set any better for the Welsh-born Imad Wasim? Looking again, I'm still not having that as good bowling from Malinga. Malik has flapped at it like a dodgy goalkeeper.

It's good bowling in that he created pressure with the yorkers and then when he shortened the length Shoaib Malik was caught napping. It's a massive blow.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24.5 overs

    Malik c Dickwella b Malinga 11 (Pak 131-5)

And another! It's a shocker from Shoaib Malik and another huge punch landed by Sri Lanka. It's nothing but a slower-ball pie from Lasith Malinga, halfway down the track, leggy. Somehow Malik, trying to play a paddle-pull, has gloved it through to the wicketkeeper. Sri Lanka must be favourites from here.

Jay: I'm struggling to see how either of these sides can cause any problems for England whatsoever

  8. Pak 128-4published at 24 overs

    Target 237

Suranga Lakmal has got the sort of mullet that would get him a role as an extra in Miami Vice. Sarfraz, busy, crouches as the ball is released, working through the on side for three. Horns and songs in the stands. Pakistan are 10 away from getting the runs required down to double figures.

Getting to the semi-final is a big deal for Pakistan, they've been looking for a turnaround at international level, at a big tournament.

Three things they need to do - they need to get their skills up, be more fitter and look at their fielding.

  10. Pak 124-4published at 23 overs

    Target 237

Malinga's gold-tipped curls bounce in, targeting the toes with a hint of in-swing. Sarfraz, rolled-up sleeves like a man willing to get stuck in, remains patient. Captain Mathews wears reflective sunglasses despite it being gloomy. You have to be cool to do that. A maiden.

This is a typical Pakistan response, how to make it difficult. They've got a habit of creating something out of nothing.

    Need 113 from 28 overs

Pakistan might be thinking that they will be in calmer waters if they can get through this burst from Lakmal and Malinga. Yes, Pradeep has two wickets, but he was expensive. Perera one, but the same problem. Gunaratne bowls dobbers. Good lord, that's close. Sarfraz sets off for a single and would have been out had the throw from mid-on hit the stumps.

Your running between the wickets can be affected in a situation like this, because you're under stress in what is an extremely important game.

  14. Pak 119-4published at 21 overs

Cheers, Higgo. There's nothing like a low-scoring ODI, is there? Nip and tuck. Miles better than 350 plays 350. Every run like goldust, every foray between the wickets fraught with danger, every delivery with the potential to cause more havoc. Sri Lanka will be thinking they've got this if they can get one more quick one.

  15. Pak 111-4published at 20 overs

    Target 237

Sarfraz Ahmed is a typical keeper at the batting crease - busy and compact, he cuts a single to get off the mark.

I'm off now. You'll have heard of my replacement: Stephan Shemilt.

The key was the bounce and the fact slip was in place. Well done to Mathews and Sri Lanka for keeping that slip there, even though we are in a one-day scenario where batsman are looking to score.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19.1 overs

    Azhar c Mendis b Lakmal 34 (Pak 110-4)

    Now it's game on!

Azhar Ali - who has shown himself to be quite partial to a nibble outside off stump - fences at a lifting delivery and slip fielder Mendis takes a good catch at the second attempt.

The best time to bowl in this game is the middle of the innings, when the seam grips on the grassy surface.

They need Malinga to come up with some magic.

  19. Pak 110-3published at 16:27 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

Azhar Ali defends the final ball of Thisara Perera's latest over and then practises the lofted shot over the keeper. Is he going to try it again? Time to sneak a man round into a catching position, Angelo?

He's the two wickets which have breathed new life into the contest.

  20. Pak 106-3published at 18 overs

    Azhar 32, Malik 5

Azhar Ali is the anchor for this run-chase and while he remains at the crease, Pakistan will feel in control. The right-hander lifts Pradeep over the slip region for four. Lovely shot.
