  1. Pak 100-0published at 18 overs

    Azhar 46, Fakhar 41

That's drinks over and done with, and a huge cheer goes up as Kohli pulls off a tidy bit of fielding at cover. Jadeja, as his way, absolutely fires through the over, sending the ball down at an almighty rip. Fakhar comes down the pitch and has a flailing sort of swipe across the line that, somehow, finds the boundary. That's the 100 up!

If you are sitting out there in the crowd and you don't have your hat and sun cream, then you could be in for a tough one. It's turning into a brutally hot day.

Drinks breakpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 18 June 2017

It's time for drinks - and man, is it needed out there. It's hot. Really, really hot. Here's a few shots from the Pakistan openers as they consolidate this good start.

  4. Pak 93-0published at 17 overs

Azhar Ali keeps driving through mid-wicket but he can only send the ball straight to the man at cover. That's a less pretty shot, one hand off the bat as he comes down the pitch and swipes hard, but the ball drops in between two fielders and they jog a single. Hardik Pandya raises his hands above his head and shoots a wryly amused look at the batsman.

No nail-biting finishes, no last over hurrahs or low scores being defended. We are due for one today. Otherwise just another tournament in the archives column, forgotten soon after.

  6. Pak 90-0published at 16 overs

    Azhar 42, Fakhar 35

Ravi Jadeja adjusts his Alice band, keeping the floppy fringe out of his face, and Pakistan work a few singles here and there. There's a fine bit of work on the boundary from Hardik Pandya, darting to his left to pick up and whizz the ball back to the bowler in one clean movement.

The White Stripes is currently blasting out over the tannoy at The Oval, which means one thing. It's Ravi Jadeja time.

Pakistan are well set and it is important for them that no wickets have gone down, playing good safe cricket. I expect them to come out all guns blazing in the second part of the innings.

  9. Pak 86-0published at 15 overs

Here's Hardik Pandya and he strikes Azhar Ali on the pad first up. There's a brief conflab between the brains trust - Dhoni, Kohli and the bowler - before they opt against the review. Four! Pandya offers some width and Azhar cuts, and cuts handsomely, for a boundary through backward point.

Kulvinder Kaur Johal: ‏Reprieve gives Pakistan momentum. Kohli is flapping. .where's the composure. MS ...have a word!

Rakesh Pradhan: India's game has not started. This is a test for Kohli and his temperament.

  11. Pak 78-0published at 14 overs

    Ashwin 4-0-28-0

Fakhar tries a dinky little reverse sweep but Kohli's got a man square of the wicket for that very shot. Ashwin speeds through the rest of this over, floating the ball up into the Pakistan batsmen's eyelines, but they're not taking the bait. If they keep on playing sensibly, well...

  12. India worried by Pakistan's 'luck'published at 11:26 British Summer Time 18 June 2017

    Nitin Srivastava

Pakistan's solid and 'lucky' start stirs up social media trends in India. Fakhar Zaman trending and so does the concern over whether 'Luck is with Pakistan today?'.

  13. Pak 74-0published at 13 overs

Test Match Special are discussing one fan who told us that he bought two VIP tickets for today's game at a cost of £225 - but didn't realise, when he bought them, that it was on the same day as his wedding. I imagine that went down well. Any similar stories out there? Wide again from Jasprit Bumrah to start the over but that's much tidier, and Pakistan just work the singles here and there.

The best game of cricket for me has been Bangladesh v New Zealand at Cardiff. We saw the ball swinging in that game, which we hadn't done before.

  15. Pak 69-0published at 12 overs

    Azhar 31, Fakhar 27

Ashwin whirls his arms, like a baby bird attempting to take flight, and Azhar Ali uses his feet to whip the ball away for a cheeky single. Fakhar does the same, going with gentle hands and delicate feet to drive the ball through mid-wicket for four. Lovely stuff. Kohli looks thoroughly unamused.

  16. No films on at the cinema - just cricket!published at 11:19 British Summer Time 18 June 2017

    Nitin Srivastava
BBC World Service reporter in Delhi

Hundreds of pubs and restaurants in India have a one plus one offer for this India v Pakistan game. Some cinema screens have shunned the movie shows for today's game. Popcorn isn't free, though!

  17. Pak 63-0published at 11 overs

    Bumrah 4-0-31-0

Jasprit Bumrah replaces his opening partner and Azhar takes another quick single that, had Rohit Sharma's shy from mid-wicket hit, would have seen him heading back to the dressing room. It's not as though Pakistan haven't offered up some chances this morning. I make that three run out chances for India?

Fakhar responds with a cracking shot, for my money the first time he's middled one, a glorious push beyond the bowler for four. Bumrah rounds off the over with a big lbw appeal, but there's no dice from Richard Kettleborough. Too high.

  18. Postpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 18 June 2017

Azhar's taken advantage of India's slight sloppiness this morning - here's a few of his best shots so far.

  19. Pak 56-0published at 10 overs

    Azhar 29, Fakhar 15

Shot! That's supreme placement from Azhar Ali, on one knee and reaching forward to sweep Ashwin to the boundary. That brings up Pakistan's 50, and Fakhar celebrates in slightly different style with a horrible hoick across the line that brings him a single. He's not looked particularly fluent today, and yet he's still there. That's a profitable over for Pakistan, not allowing Ashwin to settle.
