    Durham 162 v Notts 305

They head for an early tea at Chester-le-Street after James Pattinson and Harry Gurney fall in consecutive overs.

Pattinson fell to Graham Onions as his attempted hook ended in a top edge being well taken by Stuart Poynter before Chris Rushworth bowled Gurney for a duck to wrap up the visitors' innings.

Durham have it all to do after tea, with the home side trailing by a mighty 143 runs.

    Somerset 209 & 100-5 v Essex 129

    Neil WagnerImage source, Rex Features

You would have to say this is yet another poor dismissal as Steven Davies, who was looking unfazed, is caught at backward point off Neil Wagner.

Somerset's lead is now 180 and is looking more and more imposing for Essex with every added run.

  6. ouch!

Carberry nurses hand injurypublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Hampshire 108-2 v Middlesex 356

A painful moment for Michael Carberry batting in the middle for Hampshire.

His left hand feels the jarring of his bat handle as he collides with a Middlesex player accidentally while trying to turn for a second run.

Receives treatment for a while but is well enough to continue and bat on as he moves into the 40s.

  7. Chanderpaul's marathon comes to an endpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Lancashire 470 v Surrey 0-0

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Shivnarine Chandetpaul treats every delivery he faces like a precious commodity.

He will only play it if he deems it necessary and this innings was a masterclass of judgement and being greedy for runs.

The West Indian finally fell for 182, having batted for nearly eight hours - the equivalent of batting for an entire flight from Heathrow to Barbados.

Lancashire are all out for 470 with Mark Footitt taking another 5 wicket haul as Surrey begin their reply.

  8. Errors cost Northants in Derbyshirepublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

A couple of errors have let Derbyshire back into this second afternoon. Northants' hundred stand was raised between openers Ben Duckett and Rob Newton and they were cruising as Derbyshire turned to a sixth bowler in just the 26th over.

But Duckett, seemingly about to dominate after going past fifty in 93 balls, drove loosely to first slip before Alex Wakely prodded an edge to the slips cordon to surrender the position of complete control.

Both wickets fell to Shiv Thakor, who also had Newton sharply dropped at midwicket on 47.

  11. Confusion reigns at Edgbastonpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 v Yorkshire 141-3

    Stephan Shemilt
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

Chris Wright has been Warwickshire's best bowler today. He removed Adam Lyth in his opening burst, then was ignored for 35 overs, most curiously straight after lunch, when Rikki Clarke leaked runs from the Birmingham End.

When Wright was finally called upon in the half hour before tea, he accounted for Peter Handscomb. Bizarre.

    Sussex 194-9 v Kent 304

    It's been Kent's day, that's for sure.

The visitors have got the best out of a tricky batting pitch with Wayne Parnell, Matt Coles and Mitchell Claydon all bowling wonderfully.

But Sussex's wicket-keeper Ben Brown has showed some counter-attacking intent, reaching his 50 in quick time, off just 66 balls.

Sussex do bat deep, their number 11 Jofra Archer has a first class 50 to his name, but the hosts' scorecard does not look too healthy right now.

    They trail by 110 runs.

  13. Time for tea in Cardiffpublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Glamorgan 207 v Worcestershire 403

    Peter Miller
    BBC Sport at Cardiff

Worcestershire are in complete control here in Cardiff, almost doubling Glamorgan’s first innings total of 207, reaching 403 all out.

The final wicket pair of Jack Shantry and John Hasting took Worcestershire past 400 to secure a fifth batting bonus point with Hasting making a half-century in his very first innings for his new county.

Glamorgan are facing batting for the best part of two days to make this match safe. That will need a significant improvement on the batting form the Welsh county have shown thus far.

There are more than 40 overs left in the days play, Glamorgan batting just 40.4 overs in their first innings. They will need to score at least 197 runs to make Worcestershire bat again.

    Somerset 209 & 71-4 v Essex 129

James Hildreth had been living a charmed life at Taunton after being dropped twice but the Somerset batsman chases after a wide ball from Ravi Bopara and Simon Harmer takes a brilliant diving catch at gully.

24 wickets have fallen in a little under five sessions, many of which have been down to poor shot choices.

  15. wicket

WICKET Handscomb (b Wright) 75published at 15:17 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 v Yorkshire 132-3

End of the line for Peter Handscomb at Edgbaston as he plays a drive on to his stumps and is bowled by Chris Wright.

Decent knock though from the Australian off 110 balls with 12 fours.

Badly needed wicket for Warwickshire as Yorkshire close in on their meagre first innings score.

  16. Chanderpaul's long haulpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

Some serious staying power now from Shivnarine Chanderpaul out in the middle.

    He's unbeaten on 164 now....

WICKET Elgar (lbw b Harmer) 27published at 15:12 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Somerset 209 & 69-3 v Essex 129

Just as I was about write that Somerset were plodding along nicely Simon Harmer removes Dean Elgar.

The South African opener was trapped lbw and it was a far more simpler decision than that of Marcus Trescothick.

Essex have been particularly poor in the field today with a number of mis-fields and a dropped catch!

  19. What a calamitypublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Durham 162 v Notts 280-8

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Absolute disaster for Luke Fletcher who had not given a chance since coming in on Friday night. He made his way to 92 but then had a rush of blood to the head and set off for a single that just wasn't there.

James Pattinson sent him back but his bat got tangled in his legs and he fell over. Durham skipper Paul Collingwood was almost apologetic in breaking the stumps. What a sickener.

Fletcher shared a 108-run eighth-wicket stand with James Pattinson.

  20. Handscomb showing his handpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 v Yorkshire 120-2

    Stephan Shemilt
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

Peter Handscomb, average of 54 in eight Tests, is serving notice of what England might be in for during this winter's Ashes. Crabby technique, reluctant to defend on the front foot, strong on the cut and the drive, a maiden Yorkshire half-century.

With new England skip Joe Root due back for the White Rose next week, he'll get a good look at Handscomb's slightly idiosyncratic technique.

His continuing presence suggests that Yorkshire will soon be beyond Warwickshire and on the way to a huge lead.
