Spinners Ashar Zaidi and Simon Harmer are attempting to counter attack for the visitors at Taunton.

Zaidi is not hanging around and he launches Roelof van der Merwe into the stands. There is life in this Essex innings yet!

  3. Fletcher leads Notts into the leadpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Durham 162 v Nottinghamshire 169-7

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle at Chester-le-Street

The last two Nottinghamshire wickets have been the result of bowling changes with Mark Wood seeing off Rikki Wessels two balls after returning to the attack and Paul Coughlin claiming Chris Read with his second ball back.

Wessels went lbw for eight to a Wood delivery which struck the pad roll on his front leg.

Coughlin then repaced Wood a few overs later and trimmed Chris Read's bails when he was on 17.

Luke Fletcher is still at the crease on 37 and Notts now have a lead but how big will it be?

Back to Division One for a second, where Surrey have finally broken the mammoth partnership between Jordan Clark and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Captain Gareth Batty does the trick to dismiss Clark for a career-best 140 and end a 243-run seventh-wicket partnership between him and the West Indian.

  5. Ton-up Tavare the star for hostspublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Gloucestershire 302-5 v Leicestershire

    Bob Hunt
    BBC Radio Gloucestershire at Bristol

Well it took a long time - two minutes short of six hours - but Will Tavare's long vigil has paid off at Bristol and he has achieved his fifth first-class ton.

Will's uncle Chris, who often got bad press for his slow play particularly in Tests, will have been proud of his nephew's efforts which took 272 balls.

But wait; breaking news! As I type, he's out for 101!

  6. Extras cost Northants dearlypublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Derbyshire 281 v Northamptonshire 10-0

Derbyshire may just be the more satisfied team with this first innings. From 114-4 and having fought through some tough conditions, they have battled their way up to 281.

Northants may feel they didn't quite hit their straps yesterday, as well as last week. The extras column - worth 47 - is also rather high. However, Nathan Buck has finished with a career-best 5-68.

It is a much more pleasant day in Derbyshire and a better one on which to bat in theory, so Northants will hope to try and enjoy the Easter sunshine - while it lasts.

Plenty going on in Division One, but let's catch up with what's occurring in Division Two....

  8. Trott of bother for Bearspublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 v Yorkshire 12-1

    Stephan Shemilt
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

Minor concern for Warwickshire, Jonathan Trott is off the field after taking a blow while fielding at first slip.

The way the Bears have begun the season with the bat, they'll be hoping that's only a bruise or a cut.

  9. wicket

WICKET Wheater (b Van der Merwe) 4published at 12:26 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Somerset 209 v Essex 91-7

Another one bites the dust for Essex!

This time Adam Wheater is unable to keep Roelof van der Merwe out as he's bowled for four by the spinner.

The visitors have added just 31 runs in 85 minutes this morning and have lost five wickets. A great morning for the Somerset bowlers, mind.

  10. Yorkshire lose Lyth earlypublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 v Yorkshire 11-1

Wickets-a-tumbling all of a sudden in Division One.

Yorkshire lose opener Adam Lyth early on in their reply to Warwickshire's 178. He gloves a short ball from Chris Wright through to Tim Ambrose behind the stumps.

  11. wicket

WICKET Ten Doeschate (c Hildreth b Gregory) 4published at 12:22 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Somerset 209 v Essex 91-6

Essex are in huge trouble in Taunton now as captain Ryan ten Doeschate goes after a leg stump half-volley from Lewis Gregory and sends the ball straight into the hands of James Hildreth at mid-wicket.

It was an ugly shot but perhaps understandable give that the visitors innings have come to a screeching halt since Alastair Cook's dismissal.

  12. wicket

WICKET Finn (lbw b Wheal) 2published at 12:20 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Hampshire v Middlesex 356

And Hampshire's decent morning with the ball concludes as Brad Wheal picks up the final wicket of Steven Finn leg before.

66 runs added by the champions this morning for the loss of four wickets and now it's their turn with the ball.

  13. Northants clean up hostspublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Derbyshire 281 v Northamptonshire

    Dave Fletcher
BBC Radio Derby Sport at Derby

Northamptonshire struck early on day two at Derby as Jeevan Mendis was caught at slip by Ben Duckett off the bowling of Ben Sanderson for 5.

But Alex Hughes and Tom Milnes steadied the ship as the home side added 49 runs in the first hour to move on to 268-7.

Milnes should have departed on 10, however, but Richard Levi was unable to hold onto a slip catch.

Rory Kleinveldt then snared a couple more wickets down the Derbyshire order and Nathan Buck finished with a maiden five-wicket hail in his figures of 5-68.

  14. Kohler-Cadmore puts Worcestershire in commandpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Glamorgan 207 v Worcestershire 264-5

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Tom Kohler-Cadmore steered WorcestershIre into what looks like being a commanding position as he took the visitors to a second batting point.

His stand of 116 with Ben Cox ended when Cox edged Michael Hogan to keeper Chris Cooke on 42.

But Glamorgan's seamers caused few further alarms as Kohler-Cadmore and Ed Barnard shared a half-century partnership.

Further gloom for the Welsh county came with the news that key all-rounder Graham Wagg has undergone a minor groin operation, and looks set to miss a fair chunk of the One-Day Cup.

  15. wicket

    WICKET Roland-Jones (c Dawson b Wheal) 39published at 12:10 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Hampshire v Middlesex 349-9

Hampshire in the wickets again at the Ageas Bowl and Brad Wheal ends the lower-order cameo from Toby Roland-Jones just a run short of another batting point.

Next ball, Liam Dawson then traps Ollie Rayner in front of all three as he tries to pull one away that didn't get up at all.

Could be a team hat-trick as Steven Finn comes in at 11.

  16. Clark and Chanderpaul press onpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Surrey v Lancashire 335-6

Runs just keep flowing for Lancashire at The Oval and now Jordan Clark (130 not out) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (103 not out) have added more than 200 for the seventh wicket.

They've been together for 58 overs now as they hunt down a fourth batting point for the visitors.

  17. wicket

WICKET Barker (c Hodd b Bresnan) 50published at 12:04 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Warwickshire 178 v Yorkshire

Keith Barker's grand stand at the crease for Warwickshire has come to an end as Tim Bresnan has him caught behind for 50.

Yorkshire restrict the hosts to just 178 at Edgbaston, although the final three wickets added 101 runs between to lift the Bears from 77-7.

Barker will now be looking to make an early breakthrough in the Yorkshire innings.

    Commentators curse strikes again!

Alastair Cook's stay at the crease has come to an end as the former England captain is bowled via an inside edge for 52 by a slower delivery from Lewis Gregory.

The ball kept low and Cook was just a tad too late on getting his defensive shot in place and Essex have now lost 3-21 this morning.

  20. Steady morning with the ballpublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 15 April 2017

    Hampshire v Middlesex 328-7

    Kevan James
BBC Radio Solent at Ageas Bowl

Hampshire have bowled more solidly this morning compared to the same time yesterday, restricting the run flow.

Hampshire batsman Rilee Rossouw, who cracked a finger in the field yesterday, will drop down the order when it's their turn to bat.

It's too early to assess Fidel Edwards' hamstring problem. He again is off the field, and looks as though he's going to miss some games.

In a separate note as we look across to the nursery ground, we find the Manchester City's footballers going through their warm-up drills.

They play Southampton in the late kick-off this afternoon. For a while the Ageas Bowl feels like a multi-sports complex!
