  1. Carter treble boosts Northantspublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Worcestershire 135-6 v Northamptonshire (36.5 overs)

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

All change at Worcester with three wickets in 10 balls for Andy Carter, playing here for his sixth county.

First, Moeen Ali drove a touch loosely to one brought back in towards him and then Tom Kohler-Cadmore shouldered arms fourth ball.

Moeen never quite looked in full control, with several plays-and-misses through his innings. But he did play two straight drives of note and an extra cover drive to make the crowd purr. A half-century to begin his season, but his side in a spot of bother, with Ben Cox also gone, caught behind in Carter's next over..

Fifty for Livingstonepublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Lancashire 93-9 v Somerset

I mentioned earlier that Liam Livingstone was one of several England hopefuls out in the middle. In the circumstances - continued collapse of everyone else at the other end - his fifty, off just 88 balls is some knock, with the landmark coming up with a straight six onto the pavilion balcony.

He has the Burnley wall, James Anderson, at the other end for company. How long can Jimmy last for his team mate?

  3. Glamorgan turn the tablespublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Leicestershire 99-3 v Glamorgan (40 overs)

    Nick Webb

    BBC Wales Sport

A rapid turnaround at Grace Road as Leicestershire lost three wickets for one just after lunch, having enjoyed their best start of the season.

Veteran Paul Horton and youngster Harry Dearden added 85 with relatively few alarms.

But Horton was bowled by Lukas Carey for 41, the ball after being hit painfully, and Neil Dexter pushed his first ball indecisively to wicket-keeper Chris Cooke.

Acting captain Ned Eckersley managed just a single before driving over a full-length ball from Michael Hogan, and the game is back in the balance.

#bbccricket - Who would you pick to bowl in these conditions?

So, I asked you to nominate a pair of bowlers you'd choose to open the bowling on overcast conditions, like those in most places this morning. Here are two more suggestions.

Richard Pryde: Richard Ellison at one end the amount he could swing the ball was ridiculous!!

Nev Ward: John Lever and Chaminda Vaas for me. A deadly combination spanning the generations.

  5. Vince nears half-centurypublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Hampshire 94-2 v Yorkshire (38 overs)

    Kevan James
    Sport Presenter, BBC Radio Solent

Hampshire were rocked straight after lunch when Jimmy Adams fell lbw to Ben Coad's first ball after the break.

James Vince has largely cut out his expansive cover drive shot which can so often prove his downfall.

However, when on 39, he couldn't resist a fling at a David Willey wide one that went wider. Fortunately the catch he offered was spilled at third slip.

  6. wicket

WICKET Jarvis (c Trescothick b Groenewald) 1published at 14:14 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Lancashire 84-9 v Somerset

The slide continues. Kyle Jarvis scored just one run before Tim Groenewald got rid of him.

Somerset are going to be batting very shortly. Marcus Trescothick and Dean Elgar should begin warming up.

  7. Moeen out for 50published at 14:12 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Worcestershire 117-5 v Northants

The fun is over for Moeen Ali, as the England all-rounder is bowled by Andy Carter for 50.

He struck three fours and a six in his innings, but will be disappointed after doing much of the hard work.

To make matters worse, Tom Kohler-Cadmore offers no stroke four balls later and follows Moeen back to the pavilion.

  8. 50 runs

Fifty for Gubbinspublished at 14:09 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Middlesex 135-0 v Essex

Well batted Nick Gubbins. The left-hander was one of the most prolific run-scorers in the County Championship last season and he's now underway for this season at Lord's.

He's played second fiddle to Sam Robson, hitting nine fours and taking 110 balls to reach the landmark.

  9. wicket

    WICKET Parry (c & b Overton) 0published at 14:07 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Lancashire 83-8 v Somerset

Uh oh. Lancashire are sliding towards a paltry first innings total. Stephen Parry the latest to depart as Craig Overton gobbles up a caught and bowled opportunity from a leading edge.

Just two wickets remaining for the home side. Runs desperately needed.

  10. wicket

    WICKET Trott (c Borthwick b T Curran) 14published at 14:05 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Warwickshire 146-2 v Surrey

Great start for Surrey after the interval, as Tom Curran has Jonathan Trott taken by the safest of safe hands, Scott Borthwick.

One former England batsman replaces another as Ian Bell comes out to the middle for Warwickshire. Ian Westwood still unbeaten on 81.

  11. wicket

    WICKET Clark (c Abell b C Overton) 9published at 14:02 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Lancashire 75-7 v Somerset (34.5 overs)

Craig Overton claims his fourth wicket of the day as Jordan Clark obligingly hits the ball to cover. Liam Livingstone is still there on 35, but Lancashire desperately need somebody to stay with him.

  12. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Hampshire 88-2 v Yorkshire

It was nearly an even better start after the interval for Yorkshire, but Adam Lyth failed to cling on to the ball at second slip after David Willey induced the edge from James Vince on 39.

The away side will hope that won't prove costly.

Essex need a wicketpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Middlesex 122-0 v Essex

To say Essex need a wicket is somewhat of an understatement. Currently Sam Robson (68) and Nick Gubbins (48), two of the best young batsmen around, are enjoying themselves in the middle at Lords.

Aaron Beard and Jamie Porter, who have both been successful this season, are toiling away without luck.

  14. Double blow for Leicestershirepublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Leicestershire 85-2 v Glamorgan (33 overs)

The afternoon has not begun well for Leicestershire - Lukas Carey bowls Paul Horton for 41 and then has Neil Dexter caught behind for a duck.

  15. All eyes on England batsmenpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

Early season runs count for plenty. Batsmen always talk about getting off to a good start, gaining momentum and catching the selectors' eyes.

Well, there's no time like the present. Sam Robson, Nick Gubbins, Moeen Ali, James Vince and Liam Livingstone are all currently at the crease. Who can pile them up this afternoon?

  16. wicket

WICKET Adams (lbw b Coad) 29published at 13:47 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Hampshire 75-2 v Yorkshire

Well, that didn't take long did it?

Jimmy Adams, who stuck limpet-like to the crease for the first two hours is gone straight away after lunch. And guess who? It's Ben Coad again - the 23-year-old seamer is stacking up wickets this season and is undeniably the star of the season so far.

Tom Alsop joins James Vince at the crease.

  19. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Thanks Paul.

After all nine away sides took advantage of the new rules to bowl first under cloudy skies, it hasn't gone to plan everywhere, with Middlesex, Warwickshire and Hampshire making solid starts with the bat. Somerset are the only Division One team away side who will be delighted with their first session.

Can the bowlers make breakthroughs after their lunches? Well shall see.
