  1. Best start of the season for the Foxespublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Leicestershire 48-0 v Glamorgan

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Leicestershire openers Paul Horton and Harry Dearden did well to survive the opening hour at Grace Road after being put in by Glamorgan under grey clouds.

It was their best start of the season, though Dearden was dropped on one when Jacques Rudolph could not hold on to a fierce drive, then could have been run out by Andrew Salter.

Salter for Harry Podmore was the only change in the Glamorgan side, while the Foxes made four changes, three of them enforced by injury and suspension.

Cameron Delport, Lewis Hill, Zak Chappell, and Charlie Shreck came into the home eleven with Hill taking over wicket-keeping duties to allow Ned Eckersley to move up the batting order.

    Lancashire 39-5 (16.5 overs) v Somerset

If this continues at Old Trafford, maybe the Lancashire committee should consider introducing one of those moving walkways you get at airports between the pavilion and the square....Craig Overton has now taken 3-10 from four overs and Somerset are well on top.

  3. Decent first hour for Gloucestershirepublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

Glos 60-1 v Durham. Toss uncontested.

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Despite the loss of Cameron Bancroft in the seventh over, Gloucestershire have looked comfortable against a Durham attack of Graham Onions, Chris Rushworth, Brydon Carse and Mark Wood. The fast outfield has been a particular help to their batsmen.

Bancroft was bowled for five after getting an inside edge to Rushworth, but Will Tavare and Chris Dent have settled into a nice partnership since.

Dent has 30 and Tavare has 12.

  4. 50 runs

Westwood reaches half centurypublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Warwickshire 67-0 v Surrey (17.2 overs)

And there's Ian Westwood's fifty, brought up with three runs off paceman Mark Footitt. It has taken the left-hander just 51 balls and included 10 boundaries.

  5. Steady start by Hampshirepublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Hampshire 30-1 (16 overs) v Yorkshire

In case you were wondering what was happening at the Ageas Bowl, it is what I think you could call attritional cricket. But Jimmy Adams and James Vince have just picked up a boundary apiece in successive overs, so maybe the shackles are about to be unlocked? Yorkshire may have other ideas about that.

  6. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

At Worcester, England all-rounder Moeen Ali isn't messing around. He smashed Northants bowler Andy Carter's first ball for six and is currently 17 not out alongside Daryl Mitchell in the middle. Worcestershire are 40-1.

Gloucestershire have steadied things against Durham, with Will Tavare and Chris Dent taking them to 54-1 after the opening hour.

Leicestershire, who have lost their first two Championship matches, have made a solid start against Glamorgan, reaching 43-0.

As Adam Whitty just relayed, Kent are continuing to enjoy their season, with Daniel Bell-Drummond and Sean Dickson posting a fifty partnership at 55-0 against Derbyshire.

Finally, Nottinghamshire are moving better after two are losses versus Sussex, with Alex Hales (35 not out) and Jake Libby progressing the score to 69-2.

I bet the Lancashire batsmen wish the ECB would reintroduce compulsory tosses to at least give them a 50-50 chance of avoiding having to bat on mornings like this. Rob Jones lasted just eight balls, without troubling the scorer, and South African Dane Vilas walks out to join Liam Livingstone.

  8. Westwood in good touchpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Warwickshire 62-0 v Surrey (15 overs)

Earlier in the week, Warwickshire sport director Ashley Giles was expressing concern about their ageing team. However, his response to two defeats was to bring in another 30 something - opener Ian Westwood, and it has certainly paid off so far. Two more fours off Jade Dernbach have taken him to 47 not out off 42 balls and the first fifty of the morning is looming.

  9. Plain sailing for Kent's batsmanpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Kent 44-0 v Derbyshire

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent

On a cloudy but dry morning here in Canterbury, Kent have made a solid start to their first innings.

Daniel Bell-Drummond has played some fluent strokes for his 28, and will feel he has a point to prove after a stuttering start to this campaign.

Sean Dickson at the other end is being his usual stubborn, gritty self as he hopes to earn three consecutive fifties.

Derbyshire's bowlers have been a little disappointing in the first hour.

They tend to build a little bit of pressure, and then offer Kent's batsmen the buffet cart to relieve any building tension. Improvement is needed to break this partnership.

  10. wicket

    WICKET Procter (c Davies b C Overton) 24published at 11:54 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Lancashire 35-2 v Somerset (12.1 overs)

After losing their openers with only one run on the board, Lancashire were rebuilding at Old Trafford, with Luke Procter and Liam Livingstone together in the middle - but Procter has now gone after Craig Overton found the outside edge. There is no Shiv Chanderpaul in the Red Rose line-up. The former West Indies batsman made 182 against Surrey last week - but needed a runner for part of his innings. Quite an inexperienced top five for Lancashire, therefore.

  12. Essex forced to regrouppublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Middlesex 46-0 v Essex (11 overs)

Reigning champions Middlesex must be pleased with this start. Sam Robson and Nick Gubbins have seen off the Essex new-ball pair and Aaron Beard and South African spinner Simon Harmer are now into the attack. Who would have thought it - a spinner bowling after only nine overs at Lord's in April. Nick Gubbins is 21 not out, with Sam Robson on 24.

  13. A start for Warwickshirepublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Warwickshire 49-0 v Surrey

    Clive Eakin
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

Warwickshire, who were bowled out for 91 by Surrey in the opening game of the season at the Oval, have made a solid start at Edgbaston.

The Curran brothers, who've opened the bowling, have caused one or two problems.  Ian Westwood edged a Tom Curran delivery just short of slip and William Porterfield has got away with two miscued attacking strokes.

    Lancashire 24-2 v Somerset

    It's a tough life being a batsman.

England bright spark Haseeb Hameed was forced to trudge off for a second consecutive duck after just five balls from Josh Davey this morning.

He is now on a watching brief, with Luke Procter and Liam Livingstone battling out in the middle.

  15. Moeen at the crease against Northantspublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Worcestershire 20-1 v Northants

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

A very pleasant buzz around New Road with supporters filing in for the first time this season. Cloud overhead and some grass on the wicket, so no decision to be made for Northants to bowl first.

That decision was made - officially - by Josh Cobb, with Alex Wakely absent for family reasons. Ben Sanderson and Rory Kleinveldt are also not here due to injury, with one eye on the 50-over competition that begins next week.

Northants have started well, with Mohammad Azharullah dismissing opener Brett D'Oliveira, to bring England batsman Moeen Ali to the crease early on.

As is the case across all nine games, the away side are hoping to make the most of the new ball and favourable conditions.

Sussex have done just that at Trent Bridge, sending Greg Smith and Samit Patel back to the pavilion early on.

It's tall Australian seamer Steve Magoffin who has done the damage, courtesy of catches by Laurie Evans in the gully and wicketkeeper Ben Brown. Alex Hales and Jake Libby are now looking to knuckle down.

  18. Gloucestershire put in to bat under the cloudspublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Gloucstershire 14-0 v Durham (6 overs)

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

As you can imagine, on a gloomy but warmish morning in Bristol the hosts were always going to be asked to bat by Durham.

It's the first time the sides have met here since 2003 and Durham are looking for their first Championship win at this ground in their fifth attempt; their only victory down this corner of the world against Gloucestershire came at Cheltenham in 1999.

There are only two survivors from that match. Paul Collingwood captains Durham while former team-mate Phil Mustard is now skipper of the home team.

Durham have given a debut to former Middlesex player Cameron Steel. Graham Clark, who has scored three centuries for the seconds in the last week, replaces the injured Jack Burnham, while Paul Coughlin has been left out in favour of Brydon Carse. Gloucestershire are unchanged.

    Hampshire 9-1 (5.5 overs) v Yorkshire

There's no stopping Yorkshire paceman Ben Coad at the moment. Michael Carberry becomes his 19th victim of the season as he edges to England keeper Jonny Bairstow, who is playing his first game of the season for the White Rose county. Bairstow has previously played just three days of competitive cricket in 2017, so he must be delighted to be out in the middle again.

  20. Essex keen to get rid of Robsonpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Middlesex 15-0 v Essex (6 overs)

Middlesex opener Sam Robson made a century in his last two Championship appearances against Essex - 110 in 2009 and 146 two years later. There are few more adhesive batsmen around the county circuit and he and partner Nick Gubbins have managed to resist the new-ball efforts of Jamie Porter and Neil Wagner so far at Lord's. Hope those words aren't the 'kiss of death' for one of them.
