  1. Hampshire pair defy Tykespublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Hampshire 75-1 v Yorkshire - lunch

Jimmy Adams and James VinceImage source, Rex Features

So far, so good for Hampshire against a Yorkshire attack that has been right on the money at the Ageas Bowl. James Vince (39*) and Jimmy Adams (29*) have added 66 after the early loss of Michael Carberry, who was caught behind off Ben Coad. The four Yorkshire seamers have kept things very tight and there has been no sign yet of England leg-spinner Adil Rashid.

  2. Middlesex openers on songpublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Middlesex 105-0 v Essex - lunch

It looked an easy decision to forgo the toss but Essex may be rueing that with Middlesex 105-0 at lunch.

Although not heavy, there has been cloud cover all morning plus an unusually generous amount of grass on the pitch, but little assistance has been found by the bowlers.

Sam Robson (63*) and Nick Gubbins (40*) both look in very good form and have only had a couple of moments of concern, the latter edging either side of gully in one over, but both may well have dropped short.

  3. Good morning for Warwickshirepublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Warwickshire 126-1 v Surrey - lunch

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It's been a very good morning for Warwickshire after being asked to bat by Surrey.

Ian Westwood played fluently, jumping on any scoring opportunities, while William Porterfield dropped anchor.

It would have been the perfect morning for the hosts had Porterfield not fallen two balls before lunch for 45 courtesy of a sharp catch by Kumar Sangakkara at first slip off Tom Curran.

Westwood was 76 not out at lunch, but Surrey have a wicket to give them encouragement heading into the afternoon session.

  4. Glos suffer Colly wobblespublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Gloucestershire 97-3 v Durham - lunch Collingwood 2-11 from 2.5 overs.

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

After seeing his pace attack fail to exert any real pressure on the Gloucestershire batting line-up, Paul Collingwood decided to have a bowl in the run up to lunch.

He should have had opener Chris Dent caught in the slips on 53, but Michael Richardson dived in front of Keaton Jennings, who was at first slip and the ball hit the floor after popping out of his hands.

Dent then hit the next ball for four before carving Colly straight to Steve Cook at point but he was dropped again. However the bowler had the last laugh when getting Dent caught behind in his next over for 59, before trapping Graeme Van Buuren for a second ball duck, and had figures of 2-11 at lunch.

  5. Foxes see off early threatpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Leicestershire 81-0 v Glamorgan - lunch

    Nick Webb

BBC Radio Wales Sport at Leicester

Leicestershire openers Paul Horton and Harry Dearden got their team off to their best start of the season despite unsurprisingly being asked to bat by Glamorgan on an overcast morning.

The experienced Horton looked solid at one end though left-handed teenager Dearden was dropped on one off Lukas Carey, and flirted with peril occasionally outside off-stump.

Carey and Michael Hogan both caused the odd problem but Leicestershire saw off the initial threat and forced Glamorgan to turn to spin before lunch, which arrived with Horton on 39 and Dearden 36.

Somerset have cashed in on both the conditions and some generous batting from Lancashire, to utterly dominate the morning session.

Under thick cloudy skies in Manchester, the seamers have conjured up just enough movement through the air to create doubt about whether to play or leave, and six wickets later Lancashire have their final recognised batsman together trying to salvage something from the innings.

Josh Davey was handed the new ball and set the standards right for the start with the wicket of Haseeb Hameed, his second duck in as many innings.

  8. Derbyshire turn the session on its headpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Kent 89-4 v Derbyshire

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent

In the space of five minutes Derbyshire have got themselves right back into this match.

I was expecting to be writing an update telling you how fluently Kent openers Sean Dickson and Daniel Bell-Drummond were batting. They had built an 83-run partnership, and half centuries for both seemed certain.

Enter Will Davis, whose first spell was pretty average, his second was anything but. He dismissed Dickson for 41, then trapped Joe Denly first ball lbw. Then the first ball of the next over from Luis Reece, Daryn Smit snaffled a blinder to dismiss Bell-Drummond before Davis returned to dismiss Will Gidman too.

From nowhere, Derbyshire are back in this, and may walk off at lunch the happier of the two sides.

The rules were changed last season, Wayne - the away team now has the right to choose to bowl first without need of a toss. If they waive that right, then the toss takes place as before.

  10. A partnership everyone wants to seepublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Worcestershire 82-3 v Northants

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

A couple of wickets have changed the complexion of this morning's session. Steven Crook and Azharullah struck twice in four balls to bring Northants back into the session and nearer to the scoreboard they were looking for having chosen to bowl first.

But now we have the partnership that everyone wants to see at the crease: Moeen Ali and Joe Clarke together. Is there a more attractive pair to watch batting?

  11. Gloucestershire a happy side approaching lunchpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Gloucstershire 91-1 v Durham

    Peter Miller
    BBC Sport at Bristol

We are approaching lunch and Gloucestershire have weathered some excellent bowling by the Durham attack to be just one wicket down after being asked to bat by the visitors.

Chris Dent has reached an excellent half century, looking particularly good against anything short or his pads.

The home side will be the happier one right now. Two or three quick wickets changes that though.

  12. 50 runs

Robson moves to fiftypublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Middlesex 92-0 v Essex (24 overs)

Sam Robson, as I mentioned earlier, enjoys batting against Essex - and there's a 67-ball half-century, brought up with two runs off spinner Simon Harmer. Nick Gubbins is providing solid support and Essex have brought back New Zealand's Neil Wagner to try and force a breakthrough.

  13. Lancashire look to Livingstonepublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Lancashire 50-6 v Somerset (24 overs)

Liam Livingstone's performances over the winter led to him being tipped for an England call-up in the not too distant future. If he aspires to be a Test cricketer, it's days like this that will help his cause - he's 20 not out, but Lancashire need a lot more from him if they are to extricate themselves from this situation.

Lewis Gregory and Tim Groenewald now bowling in tandem for Somerset after Craig Overton's burst of 3-18 from seven overs.

  15. Notts batting collapsepublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Nottinghamshire 93-5 v Sussex

It was all going swimmingly for Nottinghamshire at 83-2, but three quick wickets have put them in trouble against Sussex.

Jofra Archer, one of the young players to watch this season, dismissed Alex Hales and Jake Libby in the same over to do the majority of the damage, before Steve Magoffin had Michael Lumb for 1 the next over.

#bbccricket - Who would you pick to bowl in these conditions?

David Curran: Anderson and Sidebottom of you want the most out of a swinging ball. Plenty of experience and skill

Tom H: Ultimate swing bowlers? Who better than Matthew "he could swing an orange!" Hoggard?! Paired with Jimmy Anderson! Lethal.

Peter Eastwood: Opening bowling pair: Darren Stevens - 2016 and Darren Stevens - 2017

What a combination! Kent's 40-year-old all-rounder is ageing like a fine wine - and he shows you don't need pace to be successful in the early season.

There was a bit of movement through the air early on for seamers Ben Coad and David Willey.

And who else but Coad to take the only wicket to fall so far. Michael Carberry chased a wide full delivery and edged behind to England keeper Jonny Bairstow.

The ball is not moving around so much now, although the Yorkshire attack continues to plug away. It makes for slow progress from a batting point of view, with Jimmy Adams and James Vince at the crease.

Sorry to do this to you, Lancashire supporters, but when you see a score like this, you start looking things up......their lowest total against Somerset was 48 all out at Taunton in 1892, and their lowest against them on home soil was 59 at Old Trafford in 1909.

I did mention Craig Overton after the fifth wicket, Mike....

Under the lights the Warwickshire openers have made an encouraging start against the Surrey bowlers.

Ian Westwood (52) has just moved to his fifty and William Porterfield (16) is playing watchfully at the other end.

Jade Dernbach, playing his 100th first-class game, has created the one chance this morning but an edge from Westwood was dropped in the slips.
