It's been an eventful opening day, but we'll give the last say to Lancashire's Jordan Clark on the day he made his maiden first-class century to rescue his side against Surrey.

With five overs to go tonight, Michael Lumb fell lbw to Mark Wood for 33. The ball didn't really get up but it's a blow for Notts in this unexpected late passage of play.
He put on 85 with Samit Patel for the fourth wicket. He is replaced by nightwatchman Luke Fletcher for the closing stages.

Mark Wood is in the wickets to trap Michael Lumb leg before for 33 and give the home supporters something to smile about. A few England supporters might also like the sound of that as well.

Tom Westley has his defences breached by Roelof van der Merwe with just two balls remaining on the opening day.

An entertaining afternoon's play came to an abrupt halt at 5.15pm because of bad light.
There were still 25 overs to go at the time. But they now think they can squeeze a final eight overs in this evening.
To be honest pre-lights we wouldn't have seen much play at all on a day that was clearly suited to the bowlers.
Samit Patel will resume on 40 with Michael Lumb on 28. Their partnership of 78 was much needed and forged after they'd been reduced to 7-3 inside five overs.

Image source, Getty ImagesThe contrasting styles of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Jordan Clark have been fascinating to watch this afternoon and evident in the way Clark reached his maiden first-class century, he cleared the ground as he pulled Mark Footitt over square leg for six.
While the 42-year-old Chanderpaul played a vintage innings, Clark, who is 16 years his junior came out with a clear intent to be positive and play the way he knows.
Two players from different generations, applying their styles to great success to help Lancashire fight back well on the day.

All done for the day at the Ageas Bowl where the weather has not interrupted any of the action.
Champions Middlesex might feel they've left themselves a bit short at the close as Hampshire battled well in the evening session to keep them under 300 and snare six wickets in the process.
Sam Robson (84) and Stevie Eskinazi (82) led the way earlier on at the top of the order.

And another one falls victim to the weather, in Division One this time.
That's your lot at the end of an engrossing first at at The Oval and Lancashire will feel a lot happier about life than they did at lunch thanks to Jordan Clark and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Rain has curtailed proceedings in Cardiff after an eventful first day featuring 387 runs and 14 wickets.
Worcestershire's day for sure as they trail by just 27 runs.

The dark clouds have returned at The Oval sadly after that blitz from Jordan Clark to bring up his century.
He's unbeaten on 108 with Shiv Chanderpaul on 85 as once again play is stopped with another nine overs still to bowl.
Clark's route to his century earlier went like this on the scorecard: 4-4-0-4-6 as Mark Footitt was on the receiving end.

Jofra Archer takes two wickets in three balls to mop up the Kent tail at Hove and finish with figures of 7-67.
Looks like his team-mates will have six overs to face before the close of play as well.

After a quiet spell at the crease, Alastair Cook sends Jamie Overton's first over for 12, hitting the Somerset man for three consecutive boundaries.
Spin looks to be on it's way soon, Jack Leach will be hoping for an instant impact this evening.

Added to that, it's a maiden first class ton for the right-hander, who along with Shivnarine Chanderpaul (83 not out) has transformed this opening day for his side.
Clark gets to three figures with a six off Mark Footitt. Fifteen fours and three maximums in total from him as he reached three figures in just 118 balls.

Hampshire claim another wicket towards the close of this first day and a loose shot to point by John Simpson sees him succumb to Brad Wheal.
One of two substitute fielders out there for the hosts takes the catch with both Rilee Rossouw and Fidel Edwards in the changing room nursing injuries.

This hugely entertaining day of cricket in Cardiff continues to thrill with Worcestershire now heading towards parity with Glamorgan on first innings.
