    Leicestershire 251 v Notts 289-8

Stuart Broad's super innings has just been ended by the part-time spin of Mark Cosgrove.

The England man struck eight fours and a six in his 63-ball knock and put on 122 with James Pattinson.

The Australian is still there on 71, closing in on his first-class best of 80.

Thanks Felix. I'll get straight to news of a wicket at Leicestershire...

Blimey, that session certainly had an awful lot to get stuck into with games moving on apace.

I will hand over the reins to Gary Smee, who will now endeavour to keep you updated for the remainder of today's play.

  5. wicket

WICKET Bell (c Borthwick b Footitt) 0published at 15:56 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Surrey 454 v Warwickshire 35-3

Deary me. Two former England Test batsmen gone in the same over.

Ian Bell  is caught by Scott Borthwick off just his third ball and their chances of salvaging anything are looking slim already.

To be fair, Mark Footitt is a high quality bowler who is also on the England radar and bowling beautifully, but Warwickshire will be distraught to lose their two best batters in pursuit of Surrey's mammoth 454 first-innings total.

  6. wicket

WICKET Trott (lbw b Footitt) 0published at 15:51 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Surrey 454 v Warwickshire 35-2

Uh oh. Warwickshire are in a bit of strife at The Oval, where the left-arm swing of Mark Footitt has done for the usually reliable Jonathan Trott, who is struck on the pad.

The former England Test batsman goes for a five-ball duck, bringing another - Ian Bell - to the middle. Surrey are well on top.

  7. 100 partnership for Broad and Pattinsonpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Leicestershire 251 v Nottinghamshire 269-7

Wonderful stuff from the Nottinghamshire lower order pair, who bring up a 100 partnership for the 8th wicket off Leicestershire skipper Mark Cosgrove's bowling.

James Pattinson, on debut, has led the way with 57, while Stuart Broad is not far behind on 46.

The away side, who were struggling at 167-7, now have the lead at Grace Road.

  8. wicket

    WICKET Mellor (c Sibley b S Curran) 18published at 15:41 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Surrey 454 v Warwickshire 30-1

Alex Mellor has been bumped up to open the batting for Warwickshire this season after Varun Chopra left to join Essex and he hasn't got off to the best start.

The 25-year-old is caught by Dominic Sibley off the bowling of the younger Curran brother, Sam, bringing Jonathan Trott to the crease.

  9. 'Parry makes most of opportunity'published at 15:40 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Essex 159 v Lancashire 319 - Tea

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Manchester Sport

After taking his first Championship wicket since 2014 Stephen Parry has made the most of his opportunity in the Lancashire side.

Selected ahead of Simon Kerrigan, Parry a mainstay in the white ball side ended with figures of 3-28.

Lancashire decided against the follow-on and instead will look to bat Essex out of the game.

  10. Broad and Pattinson in valuable partnership for Nottspublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Leicestershire 251 v Nottinghamshire 241-7

As I said earlier it's been a while since Stuart Broad walloped the ball around, but that wait is over.

He and James Pattinson are batting very well at Grace Road to create a 74-run partnership. Pattinson has 44, while Broad is on 31 - all after Notts were in trouble at 167-7.

This is damaging stuff for Leicestershire.

  11. Lancashire to bat againpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Essex 159 v Lancashire 319

Well Glyn, that's exactly what Lancashire skipper Steven Croft was thinking too as he unsurprisingly chooses not to enforce the follow-on.

With the sun still shining and plenty of time remaining the away side will look to pile on the runs and bat Essex out of the game at Chelmsford.

A lead of 160 runs is certainly a nice place to be as tea is taken.

WICKET Porter (lbw b Parry) 1published at 15:21 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Essex 159 v Lancashire 319

Essex have a first-innings deficit of 160 on their hands, as they're all out at the halfway point of Lancashire's 319.

Jamie Porter is the last man to go, becoming Stephen Parry's third victim as the left-armer strikes him on the pad.

Tom Leaning: How many's Jack Leaning (no relation) going to get today then, Felix?

    As I type he's 0 off 9 deliveries. It's tricky out there - I'm going for a scrappy 13 runs.

  15. wicket

WICKET Lees (lbw b Abbott) 21published at 15:11 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Yorkshire 273 & 59-3 v Hampshire 141

Kyle Abbott is on fire at Headingley. After taking 2-64 in the first innings, he appears to have found his line and length, with Alex Lees becoming his third victim this innings.

The Yorkshire batsman has struggled for form of late and is pinned in front of the stumps by the big South African seamer.

Yorkshire have a nice lead of 191 runs, but they need a partnership.

  16. wicket

WICKET Ten Doeschate (c Davies b McLaren) 19published at 15:09 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Essex 156-9 v Lancashire 319

Essex captain Ryan ten Doeschate hasn't managed to stick around for long, as Ryan McLaren takes a second Lancashire wicket with wicketkeeper Alex Davies doing the catching behind the stumps.

The hosts are going to be some way behind on first-innings. They still need 14 to avoid the follow-on.

  17. Broad helping Notts recoverypublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Leicestershire 251 v Nottinghamshire 208-7

Stuart Broad was once considered an all-rounder, but it's been a while since we saw his full potential with the bat.

The England fast bowler, alongside James Pattinson (17), is enjoying himself at Grace Road, helping dig Nottinghamshire out of a hole after they were 167-7.

He only has 25 so far, but a succession of four-six-four off Zak Chappell suggests he has his eye in.

WICKET Harmer (lbw b McLaren) 4published at 15:01 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Essex 155-8 v Lancashire 319

Essex are in trouble at Chelmsford and they appear to be feeling the added difficulty of playing in Division One.

Simon Harmer is the man to go, falling lbw to Lancashire all-rounder Ryan McClaren, who takes his first wicket for the county since joining from Hampshire.

Ryan ten Doeschate (18) is joined by debutant Neil Wagner in the middle, with plenty of work still to do.

  20. Chris Wright takes four after lunchpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 8 April 2017

    Surrey 454 v Warwickshire 7-0

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

A clatter of wickets after lunch and Chris Wright finishes with 5-113.

Surrey lost six wickets for 49 after the break and now Warwickshire have the opportunity to bat in the sun, a little earlier than they probably expected.

William Porterfield and Alex Mellor are opening for the Bears.
