  1. Hampshire look to Abbottpublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Hampshire 455 v Yorkshire 231 & 276-5 (89 overs)

    Kevan James
    Sport Presenter, BBC Radio Solent

The afternoon session coming up is a crucial one for both sides as there is a threat of rain after tea that could ruin what has the makings of being a thrilling finish.

Yorkshire have to bat the next two hours without any alarms with such a slender lead of 52. The second new ball is just nine overs old, and Hampshire desperately need a  supporting act for the classy Kyle Abbott.

Having Brad Wheal off the field since last night with a side injury isn't helping their cause and Reece Topley, as well as he's trying, looks short of match practice.

Thanks Paul, brilliant job once more fighting past the elements in the morning.

We may well be set for an afternoon of little cricket and much weather frustration but all of your General Election cricket related XI suggestions are certainly making me laugh.

Right then, time for me to head for the hills in search of a reasonably-priced pie and mash shop. I shall leave you in the capable hands of Kalika Mehta for the afternoon session.

We asked you to select players for a General Election cricket XI. Here are a few early suggestions.

  5. Bell and Ambrose steer Bears into calmer waterspublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Warwickshire 332 & 280-5 (87 overs) v Surrey 437

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

A good morning for the hosts under leaden skies in Birmingham. Ian Bell played a captain's innings in every sense of the word and deserved a hundred.

He was done by a lovely piece of bowling from his opposing leader, Gareth Batty, who found Bell's outside edge on 99 and Ben Foakes did the rest behind the stumps.

Batty caused problems from the City End, finding bounce and turn which would have made Jeetan Patel sit up in the dressing room. Tim Ambrose has played very nicely, passing 50 for the first time this season but the weather could have the final say in this game which would be a real shame.

Warwickshire lead by 175 runs, but Surrey would still fancy a chase with the ball turning. Sadly it is very, very dark above Edgbaston and rain brought an early lunch.

  6. Ballance holds up Hampshirepublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Hampshire 455 v Yorkshire 231 & 276-5 (89 overs)

Yorkshire skipper Gary Ballance has now batted for over 10 hours in this match and faced 463 deliveries. He is still there on 125 at lunch and Hampshire must find a way to get rid of him if they are to win this match.

The home side managed to get rid of Peter Handscomb and Jonny Bairstow - the latter for only a single - during the morning, and with the new ball only a few overs old, they will look to press home their advantage after lunch. the Yorkshire lead is just 52.

  7. Somerset begin run-chasepublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Lancashire 109 & 463 v Somerset 278 & 29-0 (10 overs)

    Stephen Lamb
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset require another 266 runs in the final two sessions to beat Lancashire at Old Trafford.

Lancashire’s overnight eight-wicket pair of Ryan McLaren and Steve Parry extended their partnership to 77 before McLaren was caught at mid-off off Lewis Gregory, and Tim Groenewald then had Kyle Jarvis well caught at point by Josh Davey.

Parry was last out, caught behind by Steve Davies to give Gregory his fifth wicket of the innings.

Marcus Trescothick and Dean Elgar then saw Somerset though to the interval, and a fascinating final two sessions are now in prospect.

  9. Play interrupted at Edgbastonpublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Warwickshire 332 & 280-5 (87 overs) v Surrey 437

Bad light ends the morning session a few minutes early at Edgbaston, with Warwickshire 175 ahead. Tim Ambrose is 72 not out, but spare a thought for skipper Ian Bell - I wonder if he's recovered from being out for 99 yet.

The Bears have added 118 runs so far today, with Bell the only batsman dismissed.

  10. 100 runs

Dent completes centurypublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Gloucestershire 303 & 250-4 (8 overs) v Durham 419

Chris Dent reaches his 12th first-class hundred as he sends Graham Onions to boundary rope for his 11th four.

The Gloucestershire batsman can count himself lucky to have reached the milestone after he was put down by Michael Richardson at second slip on 95 off Chris Rushworth.

With the new ball having been taken, the 26-year-old will need to keep on batting for a while longer to ensure the hosts cannot lose this match.

  11. ouch!

Bresnan receives treatmentpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Hampshire 455 v Yorkshire 231 & 270-5 (86 overs)

Tim Bresnan is struck on the hand by a ball from Kyle Abbott and the Yorkshire physio is despatched to the middle to provide treatment and comforting words. Tim is as tough as old boots, though, and soldiers on. Skipper Gary Ballance is now 124 not out.

With lunch just a few minutes away in the five games where play is still ongoing, here's something for you to think about.

Send us your nominations for a General Election cricket XI. You can pick players both past and present - so Gary Ballot and Shaun Poll-ock might be two possibilities.

  13. Dent nears century for Gloucestershirepublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Gloucestershire 303 & 237-4 (81 overs) v Durham 419

    Peter Miller
    BBC Sport at Bristol

It is getting a bit dark in Bristol as Gloucestershire look to bat long enough to make their match against Durham safe. Just one wicket has gone so far today when George Hankins smashed a catch to Stephen Cook at mid-wicket.

Chris Dent has batted brilliantly so far and is approaching his 12th first-class hundred as the lead for Gloucestershire has gone over 100.

With lunch not too far away the home side will be happy with their morning’s work, but wickets have fallen in clusters throughout this game so another burst of batsmen getting out and Durham will be in the hunt for their first win of the season.

  14. Lancashire keep it tightpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Lancashire 109 & 463 v Somerset 278 & 5-0 (6 overs)

It's certainly the case that Somerset's batsmen are going to have to earn the right to play their strokes as they chase a victory target of 295. Jimmy Anderson has sent down three maidens so far and new-ball partner Kyle Jarvis is also being frugal with the loose stuff.

  15. rain stops play

Early lunch at Grace Roadpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Leciestershire 420 & 267-5 (76 overs) v Glamorgan 426

After losing two early wickets, Leicestershire consolidated but rain has brought about a premature end to play in the first session. Mark Pettini (60) and Lewis Hill (33) are the not out batsmen.

  16. Kent 'anxiety' over new T20 tournamentpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

A city-based Twenty20 tournament could have "far-reaching consequences" for counties who play at non-Test match grounds, says Kent chief Jamie Clifford.

  17. Ambrose boosts Bears leadpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Warwickshire 332 & 264-5 (84 overs) v Surrey 437

I missed Tim Ambrose's half-century for Warwickshire because of that flurry of wickets. He reached it from 92 balls with a boundary off Tom Curran, and has just added two more in the latest over by Mark Footitt to move on to 63 not out. Surrey have the new ball, but the Bears are 160 ahead.

  18. wicket

WICKET Cook (c Robson b Rayner) 37published at 12:25 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Middlesex 507-7 dec & 239-3 dec v Essex 295 & 74-3 (23.3 overs) - target 452

    Alastair CookImage source, Rex Features

Huge huge wicket at Lord's as Alastair Cook departs to spinner Ollie Rayner's third ball this morning.

The former England captain is caught at short leg by Stevie Eskinazi and Middlesex have their much prized wicket.

Ravi Bopara, who's place in the Essex team is under threat, faces an innings to try and save Essex as well as perhaps in position in the team.

  19. wicket

WICKET Bairstow (c Vince b Abbott) 1published at 12:24 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Hampshire 455 v Yorkshire 231 & 262-5 (81 overs)

'New ball crucial' says the previous entry. One delivery with it is enough for Kyle Abbott to send England's Jonny Bairstow on his way, caught at third slip.

So that's a double failure in this game for both Joe Root and Bairstow, who hadn't previously played any competitive cricket this summer. Perhaps it's a good thing that there is no Test cricket until July.

Yorkshire just 38 in front, with only five wickets standing.

  20. New ball crucial for Hampshirepublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Hampshire 455 v Yorkshire 231 & 262-4 (80 overs)

    Kevan James
    Sport Presenter, BBC Radio Solent

Gary Ballance is still there, with his second hundred in the match.

The Ageas Bowl pitch is still flat and Hampshire are finding it difficult to get batsmen out who don't want to get out. Everything hinges on the second new ball which is just about to be taken.

There was a bonus wicket for Hampshire just now, in the 78th over when Liam Dawson had Peter Handscomb caught and bowled.
