    Essex 370-5 (50 overs) v Nottinghamshire

So Essex's 370 owed a lot to Ryan ten Doeschate's quick-fire century, but Alastair Cook also made 133.

Below is the moment he reached his half-century from just 35 balls....

If all this looks confusing to you, you may not have been reading my earlier references to former Essex night clubs.

Will it be a big Friday night on the town for the Essex players after posting that big total?

    Essex 370-5 (50 overs) v Nottinghamshire

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

It's been a perfect one-day innings from Ryan ten Doeschate.

He gave himself time, that point when he hit the four fours back to back that was when he turned the switch, amazing stuff.

  4. Postpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Essex 370-5 (50 overs) v Nottinghamshire

My word! What an effort that was in the closing overs from Essex and especially Ryan ten Doeschate.

If you've just joined us, you can see some video clips of Ten Doeschate's big sixes in that century by scrolling through the last few overs.

  5. 'It'll still be a challenge to defend'published at 16:55 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Essex 370-5 (50 overs) v Nottinghamshire

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

I think they've done brilliantly. 370 looks good, but I still think it will be a challenge to defend especially what Notts are coming off the back off.

Alastair Cook gave it a bit of impetus but Ten Doeschate's was a masterclass of an innings. I'm looking forward to the second half.

  6. Essex close on 370published at 50 overs

    Essex 370-5 (Ten Doeschate 102, Foster 27)

It's been a fine last over to be fair from Jake Ball who keeps it tight and prevents any more boundaries.

James Foster pulls two out into the legside off the final ball and Essex finish on 370-5 in their 50 overs.

The Eagles will fancy defending that, but don't forget Notts scored nearly 430 in their quarter-final against Somerset earlier this week and have the firepower with the bat.

  7. 100 runs

100 for Ryan ten Doeschatepublished at 49.2 overs

    Essex 364-5 (Ten Doeschate 101, Foster 25)

And there is Ryan ten Doeschate's 100.

It's come off just 64 balls and has featured seven fours and five sixes. Devastating stuff!

THIRD SIX IN THE OVER FROM TEN DOESCHATE!published at 49 overs

    Essex 361-5 (Ten Doeschate 99, Foster 24)

I think Harry Gurney may want to head home early.

Ten Doeschate moves to within a run of his century as he hammers him again over long-off this time.

The left-armer has conceded 75 from his seven overs.

  9. 6 runs

SIX AGAIN FROM TEN DOESCHATE!published at 48.4 overs

    Essex 353-5 (Ten Doeschate 91, Foster 24)

A wide and then the same result from Ryan ten Doeschate...six more straight down the ground!

  10. 6 runs

BIG SIX FROM TEN DOESCHATE!published at 48.3 overs

    Essex 346-5 (Ten Doeschate 85, Foster 24)

It's big and it's out of the ground from Ryan ten Doeschate yet again.

Harry Gurney's slower ball is smashed away and out of the ground over deep mid-wicket!

They do need a new ball this time as that one's probably in the flats out the back.

  11. Essex 338-5published at 48 overs

    Ten Doeschate 78, Foster 23

"Essex, Essex!" is the chant from the bulk of the capacity crowd.

The locals are giving their side all the encouragement they can. James Foster gets four with a flat-batted strike over extra cover off Jake Ball.

Ryan ten Doeschate escapes being run out off the last ball as Ball dives on his own bowling, but his shy at the non-striker's end just misses the stumps.

10 runs off that over for the hosts.

Can Essex motor this total up to 360+ off the last three overs?

  13. Essex 328-5published at 47 overs

    Ten Doeschate 76, Foster 15

James Foster dispatches the first ball of Harry Gurney's over for four over deep mid-wicket.

Gurney loses his radar with a couple of wides, one down the legside and then another with a poorly executed slower ball out the back of his hand.

Ryan ten Doeschate finishes off that over with a four from a full toss slashed down to third man.

He threw the kitchen sink at that. It was pitched up, he put his hands nicely through the ball and accelerated at the end. He got a lot of height on it but it went the distance.

James Foster pulls James Pattinson for a handsome four to take Essex past 300.

IT'S FREE TACO TIME FOR THE CAPACITY CHELMSFORD CROWD!!!

Ryan ten Doeschate celebrates that achievement by smashing a straight six off the last ball into the River Can behind the ground.

    New Balls please????

  17. Essex 298-5published at 45 overs

    Ten Doeschate 62, Foster 1

James Foster the new man in for Essex.

Ryan ten Doeschate adds a couple off the last ball of the over from Stuart Broad as Essex nudge towards 300 with five overs to go.

WICKET Zaidi (c Taylor b Broad) 16published at 44.4 overs

    Essex 295-5

Great catch at square leg from a diving Brendan Taylor.

Ashar Zaidi falls after some good pressure bowling from Stuart Broad. He didn't quite time it to be fair, but it's still a fine catch and Essex's charge gets put on hold yet again.

  20. Essex 292-4published at 44 overs

    Ten Doeschate 58, Zaidi 15

I could go on to talk about another former Chelmsford night spot named Zeus, but that's a conversation for another time...

Meanwhile, James Pattinson does a very good job of mixing up his pace as he comes back on from the River End.

Ashar Zaidi breaks the shackles though as he uses the pace to pull one away for four off the final delivery.
