  1. Notts 142-3 (Target 371)published at 20 overs

    Patel 31, Taylor 37

It's so, so hard to stop the boundaries at Chelsmford.

Samit Patel squirts Neil Wagner to the point fence before Brendan Taylor pulls him down to the fine-leg rope.

20 overs gone, are Notts now slight favourites?

  2. 'It's a belter of a pitch'published at 18:49 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Niall O'Brien
Ireland wicketkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

It's a good pitch. The groundsman deserves a lot of credit, he's had a lot of good weather and the conditions to produce a belter for a one-day semi-final.

  3. Notts 130-3published at 19 overs

    Taylor 31, Patel 25

The mad thing is, even though it feels like Essex are on top Notts are just about up with the required run-rate of 7.5.

They have plenty of power hitters to come too. Ravi Bopara bowls another good over, conceding just five.

  4. 6 runs

MAXIMUM FOR TAYLORpublished at 18 overs

    Notts 125-3 (Patel 24, Taylor 27)

Oh yes, Brendan Taylor has absolutely tonked that.

Neil Wagner slightly over pitches and Taylor smashes him several rows back over mid on.

He then guides Wagner down to the third-man boundary. While Taylor is there, Notts are in this.

  5. Notts 112-3published at 17 overs

    Patel 23, Taylor 15

Samit Patel and Brendan Taylor are managing to calm things down after the manic start of boundaries and wickets.

Medium-pacer Ravi Bopara enters the fray and concedes four singles. Notts need 259 off 33 overs. Tough ask.

  6. 'Hales got a bit hacky'published at 16.1 overs

    Notts 109-3

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

I'm not forgiving Alex Hales' earlier shot, but I can understand it when you're chasing a big score.

You get a bit hacky and want to try and get after the bowling rather than playing your natural game.

And here it is. Ugly is not the word...

  7. Notts 108-3 (Target 371)published at 16 overs

    Patel 21, Taylor 13

Jamie Porter is out of the attack after a fine spell of 3-44, replaced by Neil Wagner.

The skiddy seamer keeps things in check conceding just three singles.

  8. Notts 105-3published at 15 overs

    Patel 19, Taylor 12

Yep, Brendan Taylor is in some form.

Ashar Zaidi has an lbw appeal against the Zimbabwean turned down, and Taylor responds by skipping down the track and belting him over his head.

That lbw shout was close by the way - umpire's call on the stumps.

  9. Notts 98-3published at 14 overs

    Patel 17, Taylor 5

Samit Patel slashes the first ball of Jamie Porter's seventh over down to the third-man fence, but the youngster gives nothing else away in the other five.

Big Samit scored 257 not out the other day, Notts need another biggie from him today.

  10. Notts 93-3published at 13 overs

    Patel 12, Taylor 7

Essex look to build some pressure now and rattle through the overs.

Ashar Zaidi gets through that one pretty sharpish but Samit Patel and Brendan Taylor take six from it.

  11. Notts 87-3published at 12 overs

    Patel 10, Taylor 3

Jamie Porter is into his sixth over and with his tail up after those two quick wickets.

He gets one to beat Samit Patel as it swings away late. Decidedly more sedate now from Notts with the bat as they look to rebuild with singles.

Just the four runs off that over.

  12. Notts 83-3published at 11 overs

    Patel 8, Taylor 1

The big shots are back in the locker for the time being.

Samit Patel and Brendan Taylor knock Ashar Zaidi around for three singles.

The in-form pair have a massive rebuilding job to do.

When you're chasing a big score, coaches always say you can't win it in the first 10 overs, but you can lose it.

That's what's happening here for Notts, they've handed Essex a couple of scalps with some poor shots.

  14. Notts 80-3published at 10 overs

    Patel 6, Taylor 0

That's a super over from Jamie Porter - a wicket maiden in fact.

Brendan Taylor is the new man in the middle - Notts will need something special again from him following his 154 on Tuesday.

  15. wicket

WICKET Wessels (b Porter) 23published at 9.2 overs

    Notts 80-3

Notts are in all sorts of trouble now.

Essex seamer Jamie Porter is on absolute fire as he picks up his third wicket.

It's another ugly swipe, this time from Riki Wessels, and the ball clatters into his stumps off an inside edge.

Three down inside the first 10 overs, not ideal if you're a Notts fan.

  16. Notts 80-2published at 9 overs

    Wessels 23, Patel 6

    Gorgeous from Samit Patel.

The new batsman simply times Ashar Zaidi through the covers. Four runs.

Notts may have lost two wickets but they're not out of this by any stretch.

  17. 'Poor shot from Hales'published at 18:11 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Niall O'Brien
Ireland wicketkeeper on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

    Hales outImage source, Rex Features

That's a very poor shot from Alex Hales after all the good work he'd done to get his side off to a flier.

He'd got to 39 by playing good strokes and he's had a massive swipe across the line there.

Well bowled though by Jamie Porter as he kept going there and got over the disappointment of those two turned down leg before appeals.

  18. wicket

WICKET Hales (b Porter) 39published at 7.5 overs

    Notts 73-2

Oh Alex, you've lost your head there!

After a close couple of lbw shouts and a stunning punch down the ground, Hales swishes at one, misses, and it's all over.

It was a great knock, albeit a rather short one from the England man.

  19. Notts 65-1published at 7 overs

    Hales 31, Wessels 22

470 might not have been enough to defend here. I kid you not.

Riki Wessels says hello to Ashar Zaidi's spin with a slap through the off-side. Boundary number 11 of the innings.

    Bonkers cricket.

  20. Notts 57-1published at 6 overs

    Hales 30, Wessels 15

That's glorious from Riki Wessels. The Notts number three steps into a full Jamie Porter delivery and strokes it to the cover boundary.

The rest of the over is tight, but Notts are rattling along at almost 10s.

Time for some spin from Ashar Zaidi...
