Katherine Brunt is fielding on the boundary and even spoke to a friend who was with a little girl wearing a shirt with 'Brunt 26' on the back. "The pitch is so slow," said England's opening bowler. When Mandhana reached 50, she had her hands on her head.

  2. Ind 90-0published at 19 overs

Dani Hazell fires through another over, coming around the wicket to Smriti Mandhana, and the batsman responds with a fierce drive that picks up a single. Punam Raut then uses her feet to carve the ball away. Just the four runs conceded

Time for a brief pause as the drinks arrive. It's time for England to regroup - Heather Knight needs to stop the shoulders drooping - while Smriti Mandhana has a quick word with Punam Raut. I love that. She's played 23 ODIs to Raut's 44, and yet she's the one offering up advice.

  4. dropped catch

Here's that drop from the 13th over - Natalie Sciver can't hold on...

And Punam Raut gets another life on 21, as Tammy Beaumount spills a catch down the ground.

  5. Ind 86-0published at 18 overs

If you're on Mithali Raj #BookWatch, she's still reading. Alex Hartley raises an arm in apology as she fires a return throw in that smashes into Sarah Taylor's gloves. Jenny Gunn, meanwhile, does what Jenny Gunn does - full, straight and restricting the batsmen.

Ralph Brooker: Just tuned in. Forces nicely off the back foot, Mandhana.

  7. Ind 83-0published at 17 overs

    Mandhana 53, Raut 26

Smriti Mandhana's 50 came up from 45 deliveries, with eight boundaries and one six. England gifted her some sighters when she first came in and she's barely put a foot wrong since. Dani Hazell turns, arms aloft, to the umpire as she strikes Mandhana on the pads, but it's sliding down leg.

  8. Teenager Kerr makes the breakthroughpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

New Zealand v Sri Lanka (Bristol)

The first wicket of the World Cup has fallen - to 16-year-old Amelia Kerr of New Zealand, who's had Sri Lanka's Nipuni Hansika caught on the point boundary for 31. Sri Lanka are 52-1 after 16 overs.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Mandhanapublished at 16 overs

    Ind 79-0

Smriti Mandhana adds to insult to injury with another cracking, flowing drive. The ball is in the air but it's up and over the fielder and it races to the boundary rope. That brings up her half-century too. It's been a classy knock.

That was up in the air for a long time, but you'd expect someone like Tammy Beaumont to take that - she's misjudged it.

  11. dropped catch

Raut dropped on 21published at 15.2 overs

    Ind 74-0

Oh, that should be out! Punam Raut goes on the drive down the ground but she doesn't get enoguh of the ball. Tammy Beaumont back pedals, watching the ball, but she doesn't get herself into the right position and the ball bursts through her hands. She had time there to steady herself too.

  12. Ind 71-0published at 15 overs

Dani Hazell backs up Gunn's work, sticking to a fuller length and Smriti Mandhana has to shovel off the back foot to get a single. It's good field placings from Heather Knight, with Nat Sciver poised at mid-wicket to cut off a decently struck Punam Raut drive.

They've turned the pitch through 90 degrees here at Derby - it came to a head after they had to suspend a T20 game for an hour because the sun was behind the bowler's arm, right in the batsmen's eyes.

  14. Ind 70-0published at 14 overs

    Raut 21, Mandhana 46

A fine over from Jenny Gunn, conceding just the one run. She's difficult to get away, never really offering up any width. She's put the brakes on India for the time being.

Smriti Mandhana has been leading the charge for India, but here's her opening partner Punam Raut tucking into Natalie Sciver.

  16. dropped catch

Raut dropped on 20published at 13 overs

    Ind 69-0

Ooft! Puman Raut lofts a full Dani Hazell delivery up but she doesn't quite control the ball. Nat Sciver, jogging to her left at mid-wicket, gets a hand to it but she can't cling on! That was a hard chance - it came to her quickly and Sciver, who is a tall player, had to jump - but she did get a hand to it

  17. Mithali Raj's book revealedpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

We've found out about Mithali Raj's book. It's called "Me Before You", I think it's a romance novel.

It is indeed a romance novel,, external which has since been made into a film, external starring Emilia Clarke of Game of Thrones fame. Without her dragons.

  18. Ind 66-0published at 12 overs

    Mandhana 43, Raut 20

I'm a big fan of Mithali Raj opting to have a read, rather than watching every single ball. She's such a composed character. Here's Jenny Gunn, and another stylish back foot drive from Smriti Mandhana brings about a single. Gunn's an awkward bowler to face - she can vary her pace and, with that whippy action, you're never quite sure what length is coming down at you - and India are content to work the singles.

  19. What is Mithali Raj reading?published at 11:16 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

She's reading a page and then reflecting on it, as though she's taking it all in.

Alison Mitchell adds: "We'll know if she nods off that she's reading Geoffrey Boycott's autobiography."
