  1. Ind 35-1published at 9 overs

    Raj 12, Raut 14

There's plenty of India fans in the crowd, along with Alyssa Healy's husband, Aussie quick Mitch Starc. He's chewing gum furiously as Jonassen forces Mithali Raj onto the defensive, before a little skip down the pitch and a big swing of the arms brings the India captain another boundary. A lovely flick of the wrists there, and that gets the India fans going.

India will know that Meg Lanning can't throw overarm with that shoulder injury, so they set off for a single as soon as they knew it was going to her.

  3. Ind 30-1published at 8 overs

Ooft! Raj has a big swipe at a Perry tempter, the ball just rising past Raj's attempted cut. Early days, obviously, but the ball is keeping low and I'm not sure I'd fancy batting last on this pitch. Raj then picks her fielders to protecting, cracking a drive at Meg Lanning, who tries to pick up and throw with her bad shoulder, fumbles, and India race through for a single. That's a glorious shot from Raj, an aerial drive that flies through mid-on with not a fielder in sight. Four.

  5. Ind 23-1published at 7 overs

    Raj 3, Raut 11

Excellent shout from the ex-England skipper, there. Here's Jess Jonassen. Punam Raut takes a quick single with a clip off the pads before Mithali Raj takes an age marking out her guard. She methodically scrapes at the crease with her foot as the lights start to come on, before Jonassen chucks down a disgracefully short delivery that is summarily wided.

Megan Schutt's last over wasn't good, I think Jess Jonassen's left-arm spin would be a good option against these two right-handers.

  7. Ind 21-1published at 6 overs

    Perry 3-1-5-0

Ellyse Perry adjusts her ponytail and fires down a full over, with Raj prodding delivery after delivery to the off side. She does take a while to get going, Raj, and Perry takes full advantage of that. A maiden.

It's quite extraordinary that this is a third day pitch. Let's hope it is a good pitch and we get a very good semi-final. India know the wicket - it's been Fortress Derby for them throughout the tournament.

    Raut 10, Raj 3

A boundary! Short from Schutt but there's not much fizz behind it, the ball just about sitting up as Punam Raut pulls the ball off her legs and away to the ropes. Ashleigh Gardner has a valiant dive on the boundary but ends up landing face first into some brownish looking turf. Wide again from Schutt, and Raut leans into it, opening up the bat and running the ball down to the boundary. That's a lovely shot.

I like the field they've got at the moment, with Alex Blackwell as a shortish cover point, as Raj is so powerful through that area.

  11. Ind 12-1published at 4 overs

    Raut 2, Raj 3

Meg Lanning blows on her hands as Mithali Raj bunts a full toss up in her direction. Perry bangs in a bouncer that Raj ignores, before she gets off the mark with a uppish looking drive for two. Nicole Bolton then has her hands on her head as Raj clips a full toss off her toes, and Bolton's throw goes miles wide of the stumps as the batsmen run for a quick single. Ooh, and again! That's decent running to keep the total ticking over.

I always fear for young players. Smriti Mandhana burst onto this World Cup with two big scores, so the expectation on her is enormous, particularly in India, as they know this girl can play. Hopefully she'll learn from this experience - her innings against England was one of my highlights of this World Cup.

Here's how Mandana fell in the first over:

  13. Ind 8-1published at 3 overs

    Schutt 2-0-7-1

Megan Schutt, thick stripe of zinc cream across her nose, has a conflab with Meg Lanning and sends down a big wide. There's some movement there for the bowler, definite away swing as Punam Raut shoulders arms to the final three deliveries.

Mithali Raj needs to bat as she did against New Zealand, when she made a century. This is a huge innings for her, in probably her last World Cup. The Aussies are thinking on their feet by opening with pace at both ends.

  15. Ind 7-1published at 2 overs

Watching the replay of that wicket, that's pretty daft from Mandhana. She had been timing it well but that stroke was the wrong shot for that delivery. She was going too hard, too early. Australia have always opened up with spin, but this time it's Ellyse Perry to take the other new ball. She's not been at her best with the ball in this tournament, but she pings down a more than respectable first over.

You felt Mandhana was looking to pull that ball, it came on her quite quickly and she's just top-edged it to Elyse Villani when it looked as though it was going over her head.

Top edge and gone! Oh, that's not what India wanted! The ball just seem to hurry on to Mandhana a touch and she hurried through her swipe, sending a leading edge up to Elyse Villani who took a fine catch, running to her right. That brings Mithali Raj to the crease.

What's struck me is how well Smriti Mandhana is timing the ball.

  19. Ind 6-0published at 0.5 overs

The first boundary of the game comes from the second delivery, with an uppish drive from Smriti Mandhana. The ball beats a diving Elyse Villani and somehow manages to get to the boundary despite all the rain, and Nicole Bolton ends up charging into the boundary rope as she attempts to cut it off. Mandhana then times the absolute pants off a back foot cut, cracking the ball towards Jess Jonassen, who fumbles.

India openers Smriti Mandhana and Punam Raut head out to the middle, while Megan Schutt marks out her run up.

    Play! Actual cricket! I'm amazed.
