That is what Beaumont does best. Give her width and let her get on the front foot and she will punish you. Pandey has just lost her line. What she does best is probe that middle and off line.

  2. Eng 30-0published at 6 overs

Width from Pandey, and Beaumont times it to perfection, driving through the covers for four. And again! Same delivery, same shot, same result. An easy single then makes her the leading run scorer in this tournament. Pandey readjusts and bangs down a short ball that Winfield plays all around, the ball bobbling into the turf, but there's no-one there to take the catch. A profitable over.

Here is the first boundary of the day, a clip off the pads from Tammy Beaumont that went racing away to the ropes.

  4. Eng 21-0published at 5 overs

    Goswami 3-0-9-0

Jhulan Goswami gets down to the ground and cuts off a straight drive from Winfield. That must have stung. Oh, that's close from Goswami! A delivery that just moves away from Beaumont as she prods forward and the ball bounces in front of first slip, who dives to save a run. Goswami has her hands on her head before applauding her fielder, trying to gee up her team-mates.

Beaumont is batting out of her crease. If this was Sarah Taylor keeping, she would have gone up to the stumps straight away. These little things can make a difference.

  6. Eng 17-0published at 4 overs

    Beaumont 9, Winfield 7

Every run from England is being met with a cacophony of noise, and every ball that India save is being met with just as much noise. It's a great atmosphere at the sold-out Home of Cricket. Tammy Beaumont, batting well out of her crease, pats the ball back to Shikha Pandey, and Pandey feints a throw at the stumps, looking furious before a big grin breaks out as she walks back to her mark. Beaumount ends the over with a cut and just avoids getting an edge through to the keeper.

The MCC have relaxed their usual 'no drums' rule at Lord's to welcome the Bharat Army, who make plenty of noise wherever they go.

Shot! Ooh, that's a good looking shot from Beaumont, up on tip-toes and lacing Goswami through point for another boundary. That rather spoils Goswami's dot ball filled over, but normal service resumes with a full, final delivery that Beaumont blocks away.

After the anthems, the England team left the field, all bar Winfield and Beaumont. They got a thumbs up from Heather Knight and a last word from Mark Robinson.

Ooft! Shikha Pandey's first ball is a belting yorker and Winfield does well to get bat on it and keep her toes out of harm's way. A single brings Beaumont on strike, and that's four! A lovely whirl of the wrists allows her to flick the delivery off her pads and away through mid-wicket, right as the sun comes out. A mis-field then brings up Winfield's first boundary as a push down the ground burst through Smriti Mandhana's hands.

Well done to Goswami. There was pressure on that first over.

It's a used pitch and there's a little bit of green about it. It's still in pretty good order. If there's any movement, it might happen this morning.

The first ball from Goswami stays low - really low, actually, bouncing twice as it reaches the keeper's toes. There might be nothing doing but Goswami is giving nothing away. She sticks to a really tight length, forcing Winfield onto the back foot as she defends the ball away. And the first runs of the day come from the final delivery of the over, a leading edge that trickles away to third man. We're under way!

Just listen to that roar. Incredible.

I have been following this sport for over 20 years now and this is massive. I can't believe it. I am pinching myself.

Lauren Winfield marks out her guard as Jhulan Goswami closes her eyes and takes a few deep breath, ball in hand. Plenty of smiles up on the England balcony, albeit with a slightly nervous twinge. There's a hint of blue in the sky above.

    Here we go...

National anthems done, which means it's time for The White Stripes to go blaring out across Lord's.

India huddle and high-five before heading out to an almighty noise. Lauren Winfield and Tammy Beaumont wait just beyond the boundary rope.

Following the game for 20 years, and being a part of it, this is such a massive day. For everyone who has put into the women's game, today is a day to celebrate.

England's oldest women's cricketer, Eileen Ash, is on bell-ringing duty at Lord's. She's 105 years old and played seven Test matches for England either side of World War Two.

The teams are heading out onto the pitch for the national anthems. There's a grin from Heather Knight as one of her troops cracks a witticism, while Mithali Raj has the ultimate game face on.

First, there'll be a minute's applause for the brilliant Rachael Heyhoe Flint.

Definitely a different crowd at HQ today. The Harris Garden is usually jam-packed with champagne quaffers, even at this time of the morning.
