One person who would have loved today would be former England captain Rachael Heyhoe Flint. Not only did she also play in the first women's match at Lord's, she organised the first women's World Cup, and was the very definition of a cricketing trailblazer.

India captain Mithali Raj: "We would have batted. It is good conditions, the seamers are back into form so I'm sure they will use the conditions. I reckon there's a lot of runs in the wicket but there's something for the fast bowlers and spinners in the later half. These girls are fearless. The're very confident about the game and stepping up when it matters."

England captain Heather Knight: "We want runs on the board. There's more grass on the wicket which will help it come on nicely. It's worked well for us in the competition.

"It's a special day, whatever happens. The support has been brilliant, hopefully it continues today. There might be bit of rain about three o'clock but hopefully it'll clear up."

I've never seen touts outside a game of women's cricket before. One says he can't get his hands on tickets, because no one is willing to sell. If you have a ticket for the World Cup final, you're not giving it up.

A bit of a grey sky above at Lord's as Heather Knight tosses the coin - and she calls correctly! England will have a bat first. Both sides are unchanged.

  9. India's road to the finalpublished at 10:02 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

India had six-time champions Australia to contend with - a team they'd lost to in the group stages and had beaten just eight times in 42 previous meetings.

Australia were miserly with the ball and India were struggling, until Harmanpreet Kaur let loose.

In a ridiculously impressive show of power-hitting, Kaur struck an unbeaten 171 - with just the 20 boundaries and seven sixes - helped India post an imposing 281-4.

Australia struggled, losing wickets regularly, and despite a superb tonk from vice-captain Alex Blackwell, showing all her experience, they fell 36 runs short.

  10. India's road to the finalpublished at 10:00 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

As we've discussed, India were the only side to beat England, with that win coming in the first match of the tournament.

India are a good mix of experience and new faces, although Mithali Raj wants some of her younger players to start taking more responsibility.

Smriti Mandhana - one of the classiest opening batsmen you're likely to see - is a great talent, and Harmanpreet Kaur can outmuscle anyone on her day.

Veteran bowler Jhulan Goswami - who, along with Raj, was in the side that lost the 2005 final - is as dangerous as ever, and fellow opening bowler Shikha Pandey is unerringly accurate.

  12. England's road to the finalpublished at 09:56 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

Judging by the tense faces in the England dressing room, watching their progress to Lord's was anything but serene.

Set 219 to win by South Africa, built on Mignon du Preez's classy 76, England looked to be cruising along.

However, a collapse of six wickets for 78 runs - sparked by some superb death bowling from SA - took the game down to the final over.

It was Anya Shrubsole who strolled to the wicket and casually thumped her first delivery to the boundary to secure victory, before she instantly rushed over to comfort distraught Proteas skipper Dane van Niekerk.

  16. England's band of sisters ready for finalpublished at 09:48 British Summer Time 23 July 2017

Tammy Beaumont has lots of spare keys for her house because Alex Hartley managed to lose three sets on three separate nights out.

When Katherine Brunt was in Australia, unable to sleep and in tears because of a back injury, it was Nat Sciver who walked her around a Melbourne park at 5am.

Fran Wilson has a reputation for leaving things in hotel rooms, while Laura Marsh is called upon to fix anything that breaks, or assemble flat-pack furniture.

Get to know England's band of sisters that has reached the World Cup final.

Last night I stayed in a hotel near to Lord's, the same place as the parents of Lauren Winfield and Sarah Taylor. When he was checking in, Mr Winfield said that his daughter was "playing cricket across the road", as if it was some Sunday knockabout. Understated. Nat Sciver's sister was there too. A curious mix of nervous relatives and tourists who haven't a tiny clue what's going on.
