I believe that might be to do with captain Ryan ten Doeschate, who was at short leg earlier and has shed his protective wear to bowl a solitary over. It's not like a five-run penalty would hurt Essex much...

  5. Glamorgan on the brink of defeatpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Glamorgan 237 & 160-9 v Derbyshire 288 & 160

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

16 year-old debutant Hamidullah Qadri has continued to weave his magic for Derbyshire with a further two wickets in the second session.

Andrew Salter was palpably lbw for 9, and Graham Wagg was controversially given out caught behind for 4 to the evident displeasure of the batsman.

Marchant de Lange clubbed a quick 20 before being run-out in a mix-up, and Derbyshire are on the verge of victory.

    Sports reporter, BBC Sussex

After two days of glowering skies the sun has made a welcome appearance on the south coast.

Sussex are working their way through the Gloucestershire middle order with skipper Phil Mustard the latest to go caught hooking at long leg by Jofra Archer off the bowling of Chris Jordan.

They need a further five wickets; Gloucestershire require another 247 runs.

  8. Northants take a catchpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Northants 261 & 289-7 dec v Leicestershire 157 & 250-4

    Northants have held a catch.

BBC Northampton commentator Alex Winter has been keeping count and reckons they've dropped five catches out there. It's taken substitute fielder Harry Adair take one, clinging on the see the back of Ned Eckersley for 42.

Leicestershire require another 144 runs. Northants need six wickets.

  9. Early dinner at the Ageas & Trent Bridgepublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Hampshire 211-9 dec & 96-5 v Somerset 147

They've taken an early 'dinner' interval at the Ageas Bowl. That will start at 6.10pm, hopefully making way for some play afterwards.

It's the same deal at Trent Bridge too.

  10. Wickets for Sussex & Derbyshirepublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Division Two update

Four wickets for Derbyshire's Hamidullah Qadri. Unbelievable from the 16-year-old debutant!

The leg-spinner has Glamorgan all-rounder Graham Wagg caught behind and now has figures of 4-39.

Glamorgan are 135-8 and staring down the barrel chasing 212.

At Hove, Chris Jordan has just dismissed Phil Mustard to leave Gloucestershire 88-5 and in trouble.

Notts' chase on holdpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Notts 371 & 0-0 v Kent 180 & 265

Nottinghamshire need 75 runs to beat Kent. But they can't get out there just yet as it's now raining at Trent Bridge.

Having outplayed Kent they deserve a win. This must be frustrating.

The forecast suggests light rain until at least 8pm...

    Essex 542-3 dec v Middlesex 246 & 170-3

    Nick ComptonImage source, Rex Features

Nick Compton looks in fine touch. The Middlesex man moves into the 90s with two fours off Simon Harmer.

First he clubs him over mid-on, before saving the better shot for last, creaming a full one outside off-stump through the offside. He's now 10 runs away from his first County Championship ton of the season.

  13. Glamorgan facing defeatpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Division Two update

What a debut this is turning into for Derbyshire's Afghan-born leg-spinner Hamidullah Qadri.

The 16-year-old pins Glamorgan's Andrew Salter lbw for his third wicket. Glamorgan are 122-7, still needing another 90 for victory.

Northants are shelling chances left, right and centre at Wantage Road. Colin Ackermann has gone past 50 to take Leicestershire to 225-3 in pursuit of 394 to win.

Gloucestershire are just about hanging on at Sussex. They're 77-4 with a draw or Sussex win the only realistic results now.

  14. wicket

WICKET Rouse (c Patel b Mullaney) 35published at 17:49 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Notts 371 v Kent 180 & 265-9

Notts need 75 runs to win.

Adam Rouse is the last man to go, caught by Samit Patel off the bowling of Steven Mullaney, who is enjoying a wonderful purple patch with bat and ball.

The hosts have plenty of time to knock off the runs. They just need the weather to hold.

  15. rain stops play

Rain stops play at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Hampshire 211-9d & 96-5 v Somerset 147

It's raining near Southampton. Sean Ervine and Ian Holland go off to the pavilion along with the Somerset fielders.

Hampshire lead by 160 runs with five wickets remaining. There are 49 overs left in theory. But will the weather allow anything other than a draw?

Who does Essex skipper Ryan ten Doeschate turn to now?

48 overs remain - seven wickets needed.

    The draw is now favourite.

  17. Last Kent pair fightingpublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Notts 371 v Kent 180 & 259-8

Adam Rouse and Mitch Claydon have seen out five overs together, seeing off James Pattinson.

Steven Mullaney is on alongside Luke Fletcher. Kent's lead is 68.

  18. Hampshire shutting up shop?published at 17:36 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Hampshire 211-9d & 93-5 v Somerset 147

Sensible stuff from Sean Ervine and Ian Holland, who appear to be shutting up shop at the Ageas Bowl.

While both sides will want a win, the Hampshire pair are making sure they don't hand any advantage to the visitors. There are still 50 overs to be bowled today, but a draw is the most likely result with Hampshire's lead 157.

  19. 100 partnership for Compton & Stirlingpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Essex 542-3 dec v Middlesex 246 & 152-3

Nick Compton and Paul Stirling have taken the wind out of Essex's sails at Chelmsford.

The experienced Middlesex duo have put on 100 runs together, with Compton on 80 not out and Stirling unbeaten on 32.

Are they going to deny Division One leaders Essex a win?

  20. Glamorgan in strifepublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 29 June 2017

    Glamorgan 237 & 101-6 v Derbyshire 288 & 160

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

Occasional spinner Wayne Madsen has been Derbyshire's hero removing both Aneurin Donald and Nick Selman in quick succession to leave the visitors poised for a much-needed victory.

Donald was caught at short-leg for 31 after a half-century stand, and Selman was stumped for 43 after falling over while repeatedly coming down the wicket to defend.

212 now seems a long way away for Glamorgan, so prepare the victory bunting in Derbyshire- it'll take something remarkable from the lower order to reverse the momentum of this game!
