  1. wicket

WICKET Cox (lbw b Archer) 28published at 16:55 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268 & 110-7 (f/o)

Jofra Archer takes two big wickets to edge Sussex closer to victory.

The Sussex seamer first gets wicket-keeper Ben Cox stuck in his crease and traps him lbw for a hard-earned 28 before Joe Leach is caught in the slips for a first-ball duck.

    Archer on a hat-trick...

  2. Cox and Barnard steer Worcestershire past 100published at 16:50 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268 & 106-5 (f/o)

Ben Cox (28 not out) and Ed Barnard (8 not out) are standing strong for Worcestershire, having added 40 runs for the sixth-wicket partnership so far.

The hosts still need to score another 56 runs to make Sussex bat again, with a minimum of 36 overs to be bowled before the close of play.

With no floodlights at New Road and darkening skies, I cannot imagine we will see all of those tonight.

  3. wicket

    WICKET Groenewald (c & b Borthwick) 31published at 16:44 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 436 v Surrey

Tim Groenewald's entertaining innings comes to an end as he sends a return catch back to Durham spinner Scott Borthwick.

Surrey, weather and light permitting, have 32 overs to see off when they start their innnings.

  4. Groenewald hits outpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 436-9 v Surrey

Tim Groenewald is enjoying himself out in the middle for Somerset.

The number 11 has two fours and three sixes, racing to 31 from 19 deliveries on a miserable day for Surrey.

  5. Woakes impresses on injury returnpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

Warwickshire beat Middlesex by 290 runs

Chris Woakes took 3-38 in Middlesex's second innings to help skittle the hosts out for 136 as Warwickshire completed a comprehensive first Championship win of the season.

  6. 400 up for Somersetpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 400-9 v Surrey

That is job done as far as this Somerset last-wicket partnership is concerned.

Jack Leach hits a single off Sam Curran to earn the hosts a fifth batting bonus point.

    Somerset 394-9 v Surrey

Somerset batsmen Jack Leach and Tim Groenewald emerge from the pavilion in search of six more runs to earn an extra point.

It does look as though the weather could be a factor again later on.

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268 & 76-5

They're back out at New Road after tea, where the skies aren't looking too threatening at present.

Worcestershire need at least 86 more runs to make Sussex bat again.

  9. get involved

Get Involved via #bbccricketpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

After playing out a thrilling Championship decider at Lord's for last season's title are Yorkshire and Middlesex set to battle each other to avoid relegation this year?

  10. Restart at 16:15 at Somersetpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 394-9 v Surrey

Assuming there is no more rain, Somerset and Surrey will resume play in 15 minutes' time.

In theory, there are a minimum of 62.5 overs left to be played, though that will clearly be substantially reduced.

  11. Sussex on course for victory at New Roadpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268 & 66-5 (f/o)

    Adrian Harms
    Sports reporter, BBC Sussex

A terrific session for Sussex in which they have taken seven wickets and, weather permitting, are on course to complete the double over Worcestershire

A feature of the Sussex performance has been their catching, with Harry Finch having taken six catches so far, and victory would put the visitors back into contention in the Division Two promotion race.

  13. The sun is outpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 394-9 v Surrey

No, honestly, I've got a picture to prove it.

After a day washed out by rain in many places, it looks like we may be in for some more play at Somerset.

  15. wicket

WICKET D'Oliveira (lbw Whittingham) 28published at 15:46 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268 & 66-5 (f/o)

Stuart Whittingham traps Brett D'Oliveira plumb in front and the Worcestershire batsman has to go for 28.

That brings tea at New Road and Sussex will look to wrap up a comprehensive victory in the final session with the visitors still holding a 96-run lead.

  16. Play abandoned for the day at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Lancashire 149 & 314-5 v Hampshire 224

A frustrating day for Lancashire, Hampshire and not least Haseeb Hameed as play is finally abandoned for the day at the Ageas Bowl after a second inspection.

Hameed will have to suffer through another night of waiting to see if he can score his first competitive century this season.

Play has also been abandoned at Derby, with Nottinghamshire's hopes of victory no longer looking quite so certain.

Derbyshire will resume their second innings tomorrow still trailing by 243 runs with nine wickets in hand, assuming any play is possible.

  17. WARWICKSHIRE BEAT MIDDLESEX BY 190 RUNSpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 8 August 2017
    Breaking

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 beat Middlesex 161 & 136

Warwickshire wrap up a comprehensive 190-run victory over Middlesex at Lord's as Nick Gubbins is given out lbw to Ryan Sidebottom.

It is the visitors' first win in the Championship this season and lifts them off the foot of the Division One table for the time being.

However, the loss puts a serious dent in the Champions' hopes of retaining their title. Middlesex are now 61 points behind leaders Essex and just 33 points ahead of last-placed Somerset.

  18. wicket

WICKET Rhodes (c Brown b Whittingham) 9published at 15:31 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268 & 65-4

For those of you who've followed this live text across the last few days, you may remember Sussex being in a bit of trouble at 49-3.

Now, they're only six wickets away from victory, as Worcestershire are four down after being made to follow on, still 97 runs behind.

George Rhodes is seamer Stuart Whittingham's first dismissal of the game, edging through to keeper Ben Brown.

  19. Finn on the chargepublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161 & 110-9

Steven Finn, rather cruelly after our last update from Lord's, is spoiling Jeetan Patel's bowling figures.

The England and Middlesex seamer hits Patel for three fours in an over, though it surely won't do anything to deny Warwickshire victory.

There's an update on the 'Dave'/Jeetan question too.

  20. 15:30 BST inspection at Ageas Bowlpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Lancashire 149 & 314-5 v Hampshire 224

The umpires are refusing to give up on getting the players on the field at the Ageas Bowl.

We could be in for a lengthy evening session if the teams get out to play today and there is no further rain.
