Warwickshire aren't wasting any time here.

It was somehow always going to be this way. Steven Davies, after struggling for runs this season, caressed the ball to bring up his first century for Somerset against his former county.

Tom Abell deserved a hundred but two wickets in three balls from Stuart Meaker then reduced Somerset to 270-7 and the visitors would have been thinking of batting before lunch.

But, Davies found a willing ally in Dom Bess...and the moment finally arrived for Davies as Taunton waited on the edge of its seat. He whipped a delivery through the legside and moved to his century, having shown the Somerset faithful everything he is capable of with the bat.

Davies went to lunch unbeaten on 128...Taunton rose to him and the Surrey players applauded their former player, having seen him bat like this many times before.

    Durham 525-8 dec v Leicestershire 124-4

Unsurprisingly play is called off for the day between Durham and Leicestershire.

  10. Somerset racing towards big totalpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 349-7 v Surrey

    Steven DaviesImage source, Rex Features

Surrey started the day in fine form at Somerset, with Rikki Clarke removing Tom Abell for 96, and Stuart Meaker picking up two quick wickets.

Somerset have recovered well since then though, with Steven Davies unbeaten on 127 at lunch, putting on 85 for the eight wicket with Dominic Bess, who has 40.

The hosts have scored 62 runs in the last 10 overs, and they still have 17 more overs left to reach 400 and secure full batting bonus points.

  11. Warwickshire chase first win of the seasonpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161 & 20-0

    Clive Eakin
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

Warwickshire have a great chance of securing their first Championship win of the season after a ninth-wicket stand of 97 between Keith Barker and Chris Wright took their lead well beyond 300.

Middlesex are already hampered in their chase of 327 by injuries. Nick Gubbins has been unable to open the batting after suffering what looked a debilitating injury while trying to take a running catch and Sam Robson has needed a runner.

Robson and Nick Compton have got Middlesex off to a decent start in the twenty minutes before lunch but they still face a formidable task.

Alex Hales is very keen to bat at five in the England Test side... though according to some reports today, the national selectors are not in favour of that idea.

  13. Play to begin at 13:10 BST at New Roadpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 231-8

Finally some good news to bring you. After an early lunch due to a wet outfield, Sussex and Worcestershire will resume at 13:10 BST at New Road.

No word on minimum overs to be bowled today just yet.

  14. Davies ton warmly welcomedpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 327-7 v Surrey

    Stephen Lamb
    BBC Radio Somerset

A perfectly timed clip through mid-wicket for his 13th boundary was enough to take Steven Davies through to his first Championship hundred for Somerset on Day Two against Surrey at Taunton.

Davies has struggled for form with the bat this summer, but his arrival at the landmark was generously applauded, both by the Taunton faithful and his former Surrey teammates.

There was also some compensation for Somerset supporters after they saw the captain, Tom Abell, dismissed for 96 – his highest score of the season – earlier in the session.

Abell and Davies added 155 for Somerset’s fifth wicket before they were separated with the total on 251.

  15. Middlesex begin their chasepublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 255-6 v Middlesex 161 & 4-0

Sam Robson and Nick Compton get Middlesex's run chase under way as the former drives Chris Woakes' first ball for four.

The hosts are chasing 327 for victory.

Sadly the rain has won at Wantage Road.

The rain has stopped at Worcester, the covers are off and an early lunch will be taken at 12.30, hopefully with play soon after.

However, the outfield is very damp and more showers are forecast for later this afternoon.

  18. wicket

WICKET Sidebottom (b Sowter) 1published at 12:31 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161

Nathan Sowter bowls (Australian) Ryan Sidebottom for one and Warwickshire are all out for 361.

The visitors have set Middlesex 327 to win just their third Championship match of the season.

With the prospects for play tomorrow poor and a minimum of 76 overs to be bowled today we could be in for an entertaining few hours at Lord's.

  19. 100 runs

Davies reaches 100 for Somersetpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 306-7 v Surrey

Steven Davies brings up his first Somerset century from 147 balls, with 12 fours and a six.

The keeper has put his side in a strong position after being put in to bat by Surrey, and he still has 25 overs to try to earn a couple more batting bonus points.

    Warwickshire 126 & 359-9 v Middlesex 161

Steven Finn finally gets rewarded for some brilliantly directed hostile bowling in the first session.

Chris Wright is caught behind off the England bowler for 41, bringing an end to his 97-run ninth-wicket stand with Keith Barker (61 not out).
