As it happens, I do think we can spare that second for Jeetan (is 'Dave' a thing, Bears fans?) Patel.

He has given up just six runs in the match, taking 2-3 in both innings so far.

Very pleasing figures from the New Zealand spinner.

  2. wicket

WICKET Murtagh (lbw b Patel) 0published at 15:13 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161 & 88-9

    This is a staggering collapse.

Middlesex's batsmen have failed in spectacular fashion, and their tail-enders aren't sticking around at the crease either.

Jeetan Patel now has two wickets for three runs, bowling Tim Murtagh to leave Middlesex on the bring of defeat.

  3. wicket

WICKET Clarke (b Wiese) 18published at 15:09 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268 & 42-3 (f/o)

A third wicket for South African seamer David Wiese, who is taking Sussex to victory at New Road, as he bowls Joe Clarke.

The hosts still trail the visitors' first innings score by 120 runs.

  4. wicket

WICKET Helm (c Trott b Patel) 15published at 15:07 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161 & 88-8

    Middlesex are sinking fast.

Tom Helm had threatened to offer a bit of resistance, but he's out for 15, caught at slip off Jeetan Patel.

It gets worse for the hosts as well...

We are still looking for uncapped Test players who you would tip to play in the Ashes.

One of my colleagues has just shouted out Chris Rushworth...now there is blast from the past and surely a bowler that deserved a chance a few years back.

Send us your suggestions at #bbccricket.

  6. Helm comes out firingpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161 & 85-7

Middlesex may be headed to a heavy defeat but Tom Helm is not going down without a fight.

The pace bowler, hotly tipped to be a future England prospect, has made 14 off 10 balls with three fours.

Meanwhile, Nick Gubbins who is batting with an injured hamstring is clearly struggling. He is yet to get off the mark having faced 13 balls.

  7. Worcestershire in troublepublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268 & 19-2

Sussex seamer David Wiese has his second wicket in quick succession, removing Tom Fell, who is caught by Harry Finch without scoring.

Worcestershire still trail by 142 runs with only eight wickets remaining.

  8. wicket

WICKET Sowter (c Umeed b Sidebottom) 37published at 14:48 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161 & 71-7

Nathan Sowter's resistance comes to an end as Ryan Sidebottom has his fellow Australian countryman caught at short leg.

Tom Helm joins Nick Gubbins at the crease. The end is nigh for Middlesex at Lord's.

  9. wicket

WICKET Mitchell (b Wiese) 6published at 14:44 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268 & 15-1

The good news for Sussex and Worcestershire fans is that the lack of action in Division One means we can bring you more regular updates from New Road.

The bad news for that second set of supporters is that the hosts have lost their first wicket following on against Sussex, Daryl Mitchell bowled by David Wiese.

  10. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Somersetpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 394-9 v Surrey

The weather had been playing nice at Somerset, but no longer.

Our thanks to George for giving us a little bit of time to prepare...

  11. Fancy dress brightening up Tauntonpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 394-9 v Surrey

A funnier individual would have come up with a punchline for this tweet from BBC Radio London's Churchy...

  12. wicket

    WICKET Davies (c Roy b S Curran) 142published at 14:31 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 388-9 v Surrey

A masterful knock from Steven Davies comes to end as he hits Sam Curran straight to Jason Roy at cover.

A brilliant 142, which came off 199 balls and included 17 fours and a six, by the wicket-keeper against his former side has put Somerset in a strong position at Taunton.

  13. wicket

WICKET Franklin (b Woakes) 1published at 14:30 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161 & 45-6

James Franklin's stumps are sent spiraling out of the ground by Chris Woakes.

Warwickshire look on course to pick up their first Championship victory of the season and they are well on course to wrap it at Lord's before tea.

  14. Abandonment imminent at Hants?published at 14:25 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Lancashire 149 & 314-5 v Hampshire 224

There's been no play today between Lancashire and Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl, and it doesn't look like we'll be seeing the teams emerge any time soon...

  15. get involved

Samit Patel has six Test caps...

  16. wicket

WICKET Higgins (lbw Woakes) 5published at 14:15 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161 & 34-5

Warwickshire are running riot at Lord's. Chris Woakes claims his second wickets as he traps Ryan Higgins lbw for five.

The hosts seem to know rain is forecast on day four and are not hanging around. Some collapse by the current Division One champions.

  17. wicket

WICKET Bess (b Batty) 55published at 14:14 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Somerset 380-8 v Surrey

    Somerset's 110-run eighth-wicket partnership is broken.

Dominic Bess misjudges a Gareth Batty delivery and is clean bowled by the veteran Surrey off-spinner.

There are 10.4 overs left for Somerset to score the last 20 runs needed for full batting bonus points.

  18. Barnard's knock in vainpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268

    Adrian Harms
    Sports reporter, BBC Sussex

Despite lower order resistance from Ed Barnard with a defiant 65 not out, Worcestershire have fallen 13 runs short of avoiding the follow-on.

With bad weather forecast, Sussex have enforced the follow-on as they chase their fifth win in seven Championship matches.

  19. wicket

WICKET Simpson (lbw b Woakes) 4published at 14:06 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Warwickshire 126 & 361 v Middlesex 161 & 28-4

    Carnage.

Chris Woakes gets in on the wicket-taking action, as John Simpson is given out lbw.

Middlesex's hopes of victory are surely over, it's just a case of waiting to see whether they can hold out long enough for the rain to come to their rescue.

  20. Worcestershire forced to follow-onpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 8 August 2017

    Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 268

Worcestershire fall 13 runs short of avoiding the follow-on mark, and they'll be made to bat again by Sussex.

The hosts will no doubt be hoping for a few more showers sooner than later.
