  1. WORCESTERSHIRE BEAT GLOUCESTERSHIRE BY 189 RUNSpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 31 August 2017
    Breaking

There it is. Liam Norwell is bowled by Joe Leach and that's it. Worcestershire go back past Sussex into second in Division Two with their sixth win of the season.

Notts are running away with the title, but Worcestershire are doing a good job hanging onto their coat tails. They're 19 points ahead of Sussex and 32 behind Notts.

  2. Lancashire heading for victorypublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Warwickshire 200 & 344 v Lancashire 504-8 dec & 10-0 (1 over)

A fluent start by Alex Davies, with two boundaries in keith Barker's opening over. Just 31 more needed as Haseeb Hameed takes strike against Jeetan Patel at the other end.

After his impressive start for England last winter, who would have thought that Hameed would not make a single appearance in this summer's Tests? It's been a tough season for him.

  3. wicket

    WICKET Noema-Barnett (c Brown b Ashwin) 22published at 14:52 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 & 295-8d v Gloucestershire 258 & 211-9 (77 overs)

A maiden five-wicket haul in county cricket for Ravichandran Ashwin. The Indian offspinner is utter class - shown by his number three world Test bowling ranking - and he's spinning Worcestershire towards a sixth win of the season.

Kieran Noema-Barnett is the man to go and there's just last man Liam Norwell left.

Ali Mason: Appreciate there's a wealth of good England seamers at the moment, but Jamie Porter is a real talent and can't be too far away.

Paul Wragg: Come on Eng... Jamie Porter is worth a look in!!!!

All aboard the bandwagon! He's bowling some unplayable stuff at the moment.

    Essex 159 & 293 v Somerset 164 & 32-4 (7.3 overs)

It just keeps getting worse for Somerset. Simon Harmer comes on for an early bowl and immediately gets a wicket. Tom Abell goes for a seven-ball duck, lbw without playing a shot.

Essex are rampant. Steven Davies joins James Hildreth at the crease and it's backs to the wall time.

  7. 50 runs

for John Simpsonpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Middlesex 247 & 148-6 (47.3 overs) v Surrey 280

Why is it so many wicketkeepers come good with the bat when the chips are down? Think Alan Knott. Think Ian Healy. Think James Foster. Think Ben Brown. Think John Simpson. The latter reaches a 95-ball fifty with a boundary off Sam Curran and Middlesex's lead is now up to 115 with 54 and a bit overs still remaining at the Oval. They need a few more from him.

  8. WICKET Sidebottom (b Jarvis) 0published at 14:40 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Warwickshire 200 & 344 (104 overs) v Lancashire 504-8 dec

Kyle Jarvis cleans up Warwickshire's number 11 for match figures of 8-144. A good effort by the Lancashire paceman and they need just 41 runs for what will be their fourth Championship win of the season and one which will cement them in second place in the Division One table.

  9. wicket

WICKET Byrom (c Foster b Porter) 10published at 14:34 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Essex 159 & 293 v Somerset 164 & 31-3 (6.1 overs)

    Jamie PorterImage source, Rex Features

Who needs Mohammad Amir? Jamie Porter is on fire.

The Essex seamer picks up his third of the innings, as Eddie Byrom edges behind to James Foster. After the failures of Tim Rouse and Byrom, another young batter - albeit the captain - Tom Abell walks to the crease. Somerset in trouble.

  10. wicket

WICKET Ambrose (lbw Parkinson) 104published at 14:29 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Warwickshire 200 & 339-9 (102.1 overs) v Lancashire 504-8 dec

    Matt ParkinsonImage source, Getty Images

This could be the moment when Warwickshire's resistance effectively comes to an end. Tim Ambrose is gone after batting for over four hours, facing 198 balls and hitting 11 fours. A superb effort for his side, but they are only 35 ahead with the last pair together.

  11. wicket

WICKET Taylor (lbw b Ashwin) 43published at 14:28 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 & 295-8d v Gloucestershire 258 & 202-8 (71 overs)

Ravichandran Ashwin strikes! Jack Taylor has battled hard for his 43 runs, but he falls lbw to the Indian Test spinner and Worcestershire are now two wickets away from victory.

  12. wicket

WICKET Rouse (c Foster b Porter) 9published at 14:23 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Essex 159 & 293 v Somerset 164 & 10-2 (3 overs)

Oh dear. Tim Rouse edges the pumped up Jamie Porter behind and suddenly Somerset are looking in deep trouble.

It's another good delivery from Porter, who has seven wickets in the match.

    Warwickshire 200 & 338-8 (101 overs) v Lancashire 504-8 dec

The start of the afternoon session has been delayed due to a vicious downpour over the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.

But the dark clouds seem to be disappearing, and in it's place comes lovely sunshine.

The groundstaff will have to get a wriggle on to get rid of the standing water in some parts of the ground.

There will be another inspection at 14:30 BST, and hopefully we can get play under way shortly after that.

Confirmation that Mohammad Amir is out through injury. He was given special dispensation by Pakistan to play in this game, meaning this could be his final appearance of the season for the county.

  16. wicket

WICKET Trescothick (b Porter) 0published at 14:08 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Essex 159 & 293 v Somerset 164 & 0-1 (0.2 overs)

Huge breakthrough for Essex and it's come in just the second ball! Jamie Porter finds the edge with the first ball, which is edged down into the slips. He has Marcus Trescothick second ball though as the veteran inside-edges onto his stumps.

Somerset have to bat time. They'll now have to do it without their most experienced batsman. Essex may not have Mohammad Amir, but Porter has been fantastic in this match.

WICKET Mustard (c Leach b Brown) 40published at 14:03 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 & 295-8d v Gloucestershire 258 & 176-7 (63.1 overs)

There's a key breakthrough for Worcestershire and it comes from youngster Patrick Brown, who has Phil Mustard caught by skipper Joe Leach.

Jack Taylor is still there and he's joined by the very capable Kieran Noema-Barnett. Three more wickets needed for the hosts.

  19. wicket

WICKET Wright (b Jarvis) 11published at 13:58 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Warwickshire 200 & 326-8 (95.2 overs) v Lancashire 504-8 dec

The situation is now looking ominous for Warwickshire as they lose a second wicket in the space of eight balls. Tim Ambrose is still there on 102 but it looks like they're going to need another interruption by the weather to escape with a draw. And that's not good enough for Division One's bottom club.

  20. wicket

WICKET Porter (c Davies b Bess) 0published at 13:58 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Essex 159 & 293-9 (100 overs) v Somerset 164

Dom Bess picks up a second wicket as Jamie Porter edges him behind to Steven Davies. With Mohammad Amir injured and unable to bat, that's it for Essex.

Somerset will need 289 runs to win from a minimum of 59 overs. Essex will need 10 wickets. Game on.
