  1. wicket

    WICKET Voges (c Clarke b S Curran) 0published at 11:31 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Middlesex 247 & 33-2 (13 overs) v Surrey 280

Quite a flurry of wickets at the moment and there have been two in the same Sam Curran over at the Oval, where the ball is 'doing a bit' through the air. Sam Robson is caught behind for 21 and three balls later Adam Voges departs for a duck, edging to slip. The scores are level, by the way.

  2. wicket

WICKET Podmore (c Pringle b Rushworth) 10published at 11:31 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Durham 480-9 dec v Derbyshire 164 & 325-9 (102.2 overs)

Graham Onions and Chris Rushworth have been round long enough for the word 'venerable' to be used to describe them. Another one would be 'accomplished', certainly in terms of their new-ball skills, and Rushworth claims the second wicket of the morning as Harry Podmore departs.

Two balls later and Onions has Harvey Hosein lbw for 16. So Derbyshire's last-wicket pair are together, they're only a few runs ahead - and this match isn't going to last much longer.

  3. wicket

WICKET Hankins (lbw b Ashwin) 0published at 11:31 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 & 295-8d v Gloucestershire 258 & 75-5 (32.3 overs)

The race is on: who can wrap up their Division Two win the quickest? Notts may be winning, but with Ravichandran Ashwin bowling, Worcestershire might fancy their chances.

George Hankins goes without scoring to give the Indian his sixth wicket of the match.

  4. wicket

WICKET Cobb (c Read b Ball) 38published at 11:29 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Notts 213 & 344-9d v Northants 141 & 192-7 (56.1 overs)

Northants are dissolving like a cake left out in the rain. Josh Cobb is the latest to go, with Chris Read taking his third catch of the morning off Jake Ball.

  5. wicket

WICKET Smith (lbw b Barnard) 9published at 11:26 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 & 295-8d v Gloucestershire 258 & 72-4 (31.4 overs)

As Notts move another step towards a win, so do fellow Division Two promotion-chasers Worcestershire. Ed Barnard traps Tom Smith lbw. One down, six needed.

  6. wicket

WICKET Kleinveldt (c Read b Hutton) 12published at 11:25 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Notts 213 & 344-9d v Northants 141 & 192-6 (55.3 overs)

Same combination does the trick again for Notts as a wild swipe from Rory Kleinveldt ends in his downfall. Brett Hutton is the bowler, Chris Read the catcher. This game could be over quickly.

Richard Gleeson comes in to bat. Adam Rossington's injury may mean he is next.

Feast your eyes on his awful shot.

  9. Derbyshire avoid innings defeatpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Durham 480-9 dec v Derbyshire 164 & 319-7 (99 overs)

Derbyshire clear the deficit at the Riverside and move three runs ahead, having been forced to follow-on by home skipper Paul Collingwood yesterday morning. Harvey Hosein has 14 not out and is now being kept company by loan signing Harry Podmore.

  10. Compton sits it outpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Middlesex 247 & 23-0 (8.4 overs) v Surrey 280

Unexpected turn of events first thing at the Oval with Nick Compton unable to resume his innings for Middlesex. Remember, there was no play in this game yesterday, so why has the England batsman had to retire hurt? More info on that when we have it. Anyway, Stevie Eskinazi is out there with Sam Robson, who gets things moving with back-to-back fours off Sam Curran.

  11. wicket

WICKET Wakely (c Read b Hutton) 37published at 11:11 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Notts 213 & 344-9d v Northants 141 & 174-5 (52.1 overs)

Brett Hutton has been fantastic in this match for Notts and he's taken the crucial wicket of Northants skipper Alex Wakely early doors, having him caught behind by Chris Read.

Rory Kleinveldt has come out to bat ahead of the injured Adam Rossington. Notts need five wickets to win.

  12. Worcestershire open with Ashwinpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 & 295-8d v Gloucestershire 258 & 59-3 (27 overs)

If you have Ravichandran Ashwin in your side on a fourth-day pitch, you're likely to make use of him. Worcestershire have done just that, giving the Indian Test spinner the ball straight away.

Gloucestershire have Gareth Roderick and Tom Smith at the crease and need 342 runs with seven wickets remaining.

Hurray! Six of our seven games start on time - the exception being at Old Trafford.

As usual we'll be focusing on Division One primarily, but with added attention to Notts v Northants at the top of Division Two. We will endeavour to keep pace with the others too, especially as they near their conclusions.

  16. Essex batsmen look to press onpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Essex 159 & 158-4 v Somerset 164 - match resumes 11:00 BST

    Adam WheaterImage source, Rex

A positive result is still on the cards at Chelmsford despite only 55 minutes of play being possible on the third day in the Division One between Essex and Somerset.

The home side are 153 ahead and will look to press on this morning in the hope of their strong bowling attack bowling out Somerset later in the day to move a step closer to a first title since 1992.

"It's probably beneficial that there were so many wickets on that first day and second morning because it meant the game went forward quickly," said not out batsman Adam Wheater (58*).

"It's pretty evenly balanced at the moment. But I'm sure we're going to bat for a little while and see where we go from there."

Will we hear a finish to match the excitement at Colwyn Bay yesterday when Adrian Harms and Nick Webb described Sussex's one-wicket win over Glamorgan (listen below)*? Let's hope so.

*No, Andy Murray wasn't at Colwyn Bay (at least, we don't think he was) - Adrian Harms just likes that photo.

  19. Bears hope for 'crack' at unlikely winpublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Warwickshire 200 & 275-6 v Lancashire 504-8 dec

    Tim AmbroseImage source, Getty Images

Warwickshire wicketkeeper/batsman Tim Ambrose refuses to accept that victory is out of the question on the final day against Lancashire at Old Trafford.

The Bears still trail by 29, with only four wickets remaining, and are bottom of Division One, but Ambrose believes they must "keep being positive".

He was 76 not out overnight and told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "We dug our heels in a bit in that second innings. We had something to prove after not getting quite as many runs as we'd have liked in the first innings.

"It's turning a lot and there's still a bit of a nibble with the new ball and, if we can get some sort of total together and set a target, there's no reason why we can't have a crack at it."

  20. A skippers arrangement at Canterbury?published at 10:43 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Leicestershire 350 v Kent 313-9 - match resumes at 11:00 BST

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Kent commentator

After yesterday's play was washed out by the weather, day four is a fascinating prospect.

Both Kent and Leicestershire's second innings will need to be played today, so expect a declaration from Kent this morning, despite trailing the visitors first innings total by 37 runs.

    Canterbury
    Image caption,

The Spitfire Ground seems a world away from yesterday's miserable weather

Kent, who are currently in fifth place, need to win to keep hopes of promotion alive, while Leicestershire are still seeking a first win of the season..

So should a chat between Sam Northeast and Mark Cosgrove take place, that may mean a flurry of Leicestershire runs this morning, a declaration, and then a total is set of say, 320 in 60 overs?

Another issue stands in their way though: the threat of rain, expected in the early afternoon.
