  1. wicket

WICKET Jennings (c Slater b Viljoen) 16published at 12:45 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Durham 480-9 dec & 31-1 (8.5 overs) v Derbyshire 164 & 354

Spare a thought for Keaton Jennings. Just a few weeks ago he was opening the batting for England, now he can't seem to do anything right. After a first-ball dismissal in the first innings, he is caught at mid-wicket with Durham just eight runs short of victory. At least he has the consolation of two fours earlier in the over.

  2. Gloucs pair stall Worcestershirepublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 & 295-8d v Gloucestershire 258 & 143-6 (53.4 overs)

Jack Taylor and Phil Mustard are sticking to their task well at New Road, after Worcestershire started the day with a flurry of wickets. The pair have put on 38 runs together.

  3. 50 runs

for Ryan ten Doeschatepublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Essex 159 & 252-5 (90 overs) v Somerset 164

An excellent and timely half-century from Essex skipper Ryan ten Doeschate who's taken just 76 balls to get there. He survived close lbw appeals against Craig Overton and saw Tim Groenewald shell a simple catch off his bat, but he's moved the game along nicely.

Essex lead by 247 and are surely thinking about declaring some time after lunch.

  4. Durham in no rushpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Durham 480-9 dec & 14-0 (7 overs) v Derbyshire 164 & 354

Maybe lunches at the Riverside are especially good and Durham want to enjoy theirs before completing victory over Derbyshire.

A rate of just two runs an over so far from Tom Latham and Keaton Jennings and all three bowled by Harry Podmore have been maidens - 25 more needed.

In case you haven't noticed, which is genuinely quite some feat, it's Transfer Deadline Day today in the world of football.

We're shamelessly piggybacking on this by asking which cricketer, past or present, you would most like to see your county sign.

Let us know - and tell us why - using #bbccricket on Twitter.

  6. Crazy over ends in Cosgrove dismissalpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Leicestershire 350 & 64-3 (14 overs) v Kent 333

Maybe Leicestershire do want to declare after all? (See 11.57 post).

Mark Cosgrove falls for 34 runs. So far so normal. But his final over against Matt Coles reads: 4, 6, 4, 4, 6, W.

Whether that's just him, or a team directive remains to be seen. Leicestershire lead by 81 runs with seven wickets left.

  7. wicket

WICKET Stirling (b Patel) 12published at 12:19 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Middlesex 247 & 60-4 (23.3 overs) v Surrey 280

    Ryan PatelImage source, Getty I

A huge moment for seam bowler Ryan Patel as he claims his first wicket when Paul Stirling tries to pull a ball that isn't short enough and under-edges it into his stumps.

Patel bowled well in the first innings too, taking 0-22 from 11 overs, and Surrey's imaginary rear extensions are more up than a flock of pied wagtails.

  8. Durham on course for victorypublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Durham 490-9 dec & 9-0 v Derbyshire 164 & 354

This shouldn't take Durham too long and Tom Latham and Keaton Jennings take nine from Hardus Viljoen's opening over. Just 30 more needed for the home side.

  9. wicket

WICKET Roderick (b Leach) 47published at 12:15 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Worcestershire 363 & 295-8d v Gloucestershire 258 & 105-6 (45.3 overs)

No half-century for Gareth Roderick who is bowled by Joe Leach. Worcestershire are four wickets away from following Nottinghamshire's lead and winning.

  10. wicket

WICKET Wheater (c Davies b Overton) 88published at 12:14 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Essex 159 & 234-5 (84.2 overs) v Somerset 164

Adam Wheater falls to the second new ball as Craig Overton takes a seventh wicket of the match. James Foster comes to the crease with Essex leading by 229 runs.

No blame on Wheater, who's gone to an absolutely unplayable ball.

  11. NOTTS BEAT NORTHANTS BY 163 RUNSpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Notts 213 & 344-9 dec v Northants 141 & 253-9

    Alex Winter
    BBC Radio Northampton sport

No drama for Notts this morning, any slight doubts about the direction of this game was put to bed with three wickets in 37 balls. The Division Two title may not yet be a foregone conclusion but promotion is surely in the bag now for Notts, who have extended their gap at the top from 35 points to 51 points for the time being.

For Northamptonshire, it's been a miserable week. They've had their chances in this game, failed to take them and ended up with a good beating.

Worse still, their over rate of minus five will see them leave with a points deduction and injuries to seamer Ben Sanderson and wicketkeeper Adam Rossington may be serious enough to end their seasons.

With Sussex and Worcestershire making progress this week, it feels like a pivotal few days in the promotion race.

  12. wicket

WICKET Gleeson (c Wessels b Patel) 21published at 12:09 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Notts 213 & 344-9d v Northants 141 & 253-9 (66.5 overs)

Richard Gleeson becomes Samit Patel's third victim, giving a catch to Riki Wessels.

That's the seventh win of the season for Notts, as Adam Rossington's injury means he can't take the field to bat.

  13. rain stops play

Morning wash-out at Old Traffordpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Warwickshire 200 & 275-6 (85 overs) v Lancashire 504-8 dec

Umpires Russell Evans and David Millns have decided there will be no play before lunch at Old Trafford. However, prospects may be improving.

  14. wicket

WICKET Tahir (lbw Steel) 10published at 12:02 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Durham 480-9 dec v Derbyshire 164 & 354 (109.2 overs)

Imran Tahir knows a thing or two about leg-spin bowling, but he mis-reads a googly from Cameron Steel and it's all over for Derbyshire. Durham need to score 39 for their third Championship win of the season.

  15. Will Leicestershire set up a game?published at 11:57 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Leicestershire 350 & 14-1 (6 overs) v Kent 333

The word from Canterbury is that Division Two's bottom side Leicestershire are not keen on declaring to set up the chance of a result at Canterbury. If correct that means Kent - and Darren Stevens - will need to bowl the Foxes out.

Harry Dearden has already fallen lbw to the aforementioned seamer, leaving nine more wickets to get. Leicestershire lead by 31 runs.

  16. wicket

WICKET Azharullah (c Pujara b Patel) 23published at 11:55 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Notts 213 & 344-9d v Northants 141 & 224-8 (63 overs)

The end is near for Northants as Mohammad Azharullah falls to Samit Patel. Ben Sanderson has come out to bat with Rob Keogh as a runner, suggesting that Adam Rossington may not even be fit enough to come out.

  17. new ball

50-partnership for Essexpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Essex 159 & 209-4 (80 overs) v Somerset 164

Adam Wheater (77 not out) has passed his highest score of the season, and is receiving good support - as you would expect - from skipper Ryan ten Doeschate (30 not out), with the duo having put on 52 runs together.

Somerset respond by taking the new ball, after Jack Leach couldn't find much spin. Essex lead by 204 runs - how many do they need?

  18. No news, not good news for Lancashirepublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Warwickshire 200 & 275-6 (85 overs) v Lancashire 504-8 dec

No change at Old Trafford where rain has prevented any play so far this morning. The match position sees Warwickshire still 29 runs behind with four wickets remaining.

  19. wicket

WICKET Eskinazi (lbw S Curran ) 6published at 11:45 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    Middlesex 247 & 38-3 (15.4 overs) v Surrey 280

Inspired stuff from Sam Curran this morning, and there's his third wicket. It's easy to forget he's still only19 as he seems to have been around for some time.

Middlesex are suddenly in trouble with three batsmen gone, Nick Compton injured, and a lead of only five runs.

If Surrey pull this off, it would be quite some victory because Curran is one FOUR 19-year-olds in the team for this game.

We mentioned earlier that Nick Compton was unable to resume his innings this morning. The reason is a mystery no longer. Wonder what he was doing when the spasm happened?
