It was certainly a remarkable final day.

Somerset secured their survival by bowling out Middlesex for 113 before lunch.

All eyes were then on Edgbaston where it went to the wire.

But Hampshire survived to send Middlesex down.

So that's the 2017 County Championship done.

I'm not quite sure how to feel about that. It's been a long road, but what am I going to do for the next six months now?!

Ah, I guess there's a small matter of an Ashes tour coming up. That'll do.

A brilliant batting display from Hampshire ensured their survival as the visitors dug in at Edgbaston to escape the drop by a single point.

With 80 overs to bat through on the final day, Tom Alsop (22 off 80 balls), James Vince (30 off 124 balls), Liam Dawson (9 off 94 balls) and Ian Holland (21 off 90 balls) all showed grit and determination to resist Warwickshire's bowlers.

The day was not without alarm as Hampshire lost wickets in clusters after lunch and tea.

However, following Middlesex's loss to Somerset earlier in the day, the draw proved enough to see Hampshire remain in Division One for another season.
