  2. Delayed start at Grace Roadpublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Leicestershire 128 & 270 v Northants 202 & 17-0

Northants' chances of going up were slim at best.

They may well be paper thin now - there will be no play in Leicester before lunch because of a wet outfield.

Northants need another 180 for victory if and when they do resume.

    County Championship final day

Yesterday's events at New Road and Hove made the promotion scenarios a little easier.

Worcestershire went up in the morning session thanks to Northants only making 202 in their first innings.

Nottinghamshire's lower order fought superbly to avoid the follow-on target of 416 against Sussex - a draw is enough to send Notts up.

Northants must chase their target of 197 at Leicestershire to keep their slim promotion hopes alive - but they need Notts to lose. I'll throw my neck out here - Notts aren't going to lose.

    County Championship final day

Bullet points have been really handy this week...

    • Somerset MUST beat Middlesex to stay up
    • A Middlesex win or drawn game at Taunton sends Somerset down
    • Hampshire need at least a draw at Edgbaston to survive
    • If Hants lose and Somerset win, Hampshire are down

Good job there are only three teams in the mix, it's been a taxing week for the brain!

12 months later, it's a very different story, with both attempting to avoid relegation on the final day.

Throw Hampshire into the relegation mix and we've got a cracking day coming up.
