  1. Dawson yet to make a runpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Warwickshire 188 & 186 v Hampshire 116 & 89-4 - target 259

Liam Dawson is doing his level best to protect his wicket.

He has gone 18 balls without scoring... how much longer will he go without making a run?

It doesn't really matter, survival is the key for Hampshire.

  3. Vince and Dawson dig inpublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Warwickshire 188 & 186 v Hampshire 116 & 83-4 - target 259

James Vince and Liam Dawson are doing their level best to keep out Ryan Sidebottom and Jeetan Patel.

A draw is enough to keep them up and send Middlesex down.

Warwickshire need six wickets to pick up just their second Championship victory of the season and take Hampshire down to Division Two with them next season.

  5. NO POINTS DEDUCTION FOR TAUNTON PITCHpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 28 September 2017
    Breaking

Somerset beat Middlesex by 231 runs

BBC London's Kevin Hand is reporting that the match's cricket liaison officer has graded the Taunton pitch as "below average" for excessive turn, but not "poor" which would have carried a points deduction.

    Somerset are definitely safe.

Matt: Right Mr Vince, time to justify that plane ticket to Australia

Andy Stevenson: Hampshire can be the first team to be relegated from the same division in successive seasons

I hadn't thought of that Andy! They were given a reprieve in 2016 because of Durham's ECB sanctions and subsequent relegation.

  7. wicket

WICKET Jennings (c Mitchell b Ashwin) 20published at 13:26 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Worcestershire 335 & 242-3 dec v Durham 208 & 48-3

There won't be a fairytale send off for Keaton Jennings. He's gone.

Ravichandran Ashwin finds the edge of the left-hander's bat and Daryl Mitchell takes the chance at slip.

Jennings is off to Lancashire next season.

  8. wicket

WICKET Bailey (lbw Patel) 0published at 13:24 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Warwickshire 188 & 186 v Hampshire 116 & 72-4 - target 259

George Bailey attempts to reverse sweep Jeetan Patel but misses!

It is a favoured shot for the Australian batsman against spinners but seems a poor choice in the circumstances.

Hampshire have lost three wickets in 17 balls since lunch. I can hear the Middlesex cheers!

  9. Postpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Warwickshire 188 & 186 v Hampshire 116 & 68-3 - target 259

James Vince is joined by captain George Bailey at the crease.

You would imagine a lot of Hampshire's chances of survival depends on this pair.

A good knock here would give Vince, and the England selectors, a much needed confidence boost ahead of the Ashes.

  10. wicket

WICKET Alsop (c Trott b Patel) 22published at 13:18 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Warwickshire 188 & 186 v Hampshire 116 & 68-3 - target 259

    Jeetan Patel strikes!

The Warwickshire spinner had Tom Alsop in all sorts of trouble in the final throws before lunch and he finally gets his rewards.

Alsop edges to Jonathan Trott, who take a regulation catch in the slips.

  11. Postpublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Worcestershire 335 & 242-3 dec v Durham 208 & 47-2

They're also under way again at New Road.

Keaton Jennings, left out of the England Ashes squad, may want to make a statement to the selectors in his final innings for Durham.

The left-hander is 20 not out as Durham chase an unlikely 370 for victory.

  12. wicket

WICKET Ervine (c Ambrose b Sidebottom) 26published at 13:12 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Warwickshire 188 & 186 v Hampshire 116 & 68-2 - target 259

    Huge wicket!

Ryan Sidebottom, the lesser known Australian seamer, has Sean Ervine caught behind three balls after lunch.

James Vince comes to the crease with the weight of the world on him.

  13. Hampshire get afternoon session under waypublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Warwickshire 188 & 186 v Hampshire 116 & 64-1 - target 259

195 runs needed for a Hampshire victory but Warwickshire spinner Jeetan Patel is making the ball talk.

We are in for a defining session in this match and undoubtedly the Middlesex players will be listening intently to what is happening at Edgbaston.

What a difference a year makes.

In the late September sunshine at Lord's a Toby Roland-Jones hat-trick sealed the County Championship title for Middlesex.

Today, they need Warwickshire to beat Hampshire to stay in Division One.

  16. Sussex begin second innings at Hovepublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Sussex 565 & 0-0 v Nottinghamshire 477

Sussex finally begin their second innings at Hove, holding an 88-run first-innings lead over Nottinghamshire.

The visitors need only draw this match to ensure they secure promotion to Division One.

67 overs to be bowled in the day but I am not sure they will get through all of those.

    Leicestershire 128 & 270 v Northamptonshre 202 & 31-1 (target 197)

Leicestershire take an early wicket as Dieter Klein takes the edge of Rob Newton's bat and Lewis Hill takes a good diving catch just in front of first slip.

Northants' slim promotion chances rest on them winning at Grace Road and Nottinghamshire to somehow slide to defeat at Hove.

  20. Resumption at Grace Roadpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    Leicestershire 128 & 270 v Northants 202 & 17-0

They're finally ready to go at Leicestershire.

Luke Procter and Rob Newton are in the middle for Northants - they need another 180 for victory.

But with Notts set to draw at Hove, a win won't be enough for promotion.
