    Leicestershire 128 v Northants 37-0

Northants have started really well after skittling Leicestershire cheaply.

Rob Newton and Luke Procter look well set.

It's a game Northants must win to stand any chance of promotion.

With Worcestershire just about to pass 300, it looks as though it'll be a straight shootout between Notts and Northants.

Somerset have a couple of experienced heads out there in Marcus Trescothick and James Hidlreth.

The pair have almost 41,000 first-class runs between them.

Somerset's lead is up to 146 in a match where victory guarantees their safety.

Johnboy: I realise it's something of a dead rubber but the occasional comment on the Gloucestershire v Derbyshire would be nice

Sure thing...Derbyshire are 279-2 thanks to an unbroken stand of 205 between Wayne Madsen (108*) and Alex Hughes (91*).

  7. wicket

WICKET Ashwin (lbw b Trevaskis) 82published at 14:35 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Worcestershire 284-7 v Durham

It's a first wicket for 18-year-old Durham slow-bowler Liam Trevaskis! Yep, I've never heard of him either.

But what a wicket it is for the debutant as he pins Ravichandran Ashwin lbw, 18 short of his century.

Worcestershire are still in a strong position though - if they pass 300 and take nine Durham wickets inside 110 overs, they're promoted.

  8. wicket

WICKET Patel (c Holland b Dawson) 14published at 14:29 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Warwickshire 127-7 v Hampshire

    Another one bites the dust!

Liam Dawson claims his first wicket as Jeetan Patel pulls the spinner straight to Ian Holland at mid-wicket.

Hampshire are two wickets away from a third bowling bonus point after which avoiding defeat at Edgbaston would guarantee their Division One safety.

  9. Yorkshire all out for 111published at 14:24 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Essex 227 v Yorkshire 111

    Jamie PorterImage source, Rex Features

    Essex are unstoppable this season.

The unbeaten champions have skittled Yorkshire for 111 with Jamie Porter, Simon Harmer and Neil Wagner all taking three wickets.

    Their lead is 116.

In the other Division One match, Lancashire are 147-6 in reply to Surrey's 201-8 declared.

Steven Croft has just brought up his fifty.

  10. Jordan and Archer share half-century standpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Sussex 472-7 v Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire miss out on a third bowling bonus point after they fail to take nine Sussex wickets within 110 overs.

Chris Jordan (122 not out) and Jofra Archer (27 not out) are not looking in too much trouble batting in the sun as the hosts move past 450.

We are in for a couple of very interesting days here at Hove and at Grace Road where a Northants victory would put a spanner in Notts' promotion hopes.

Daniel Haines: For all the talk of poor pitch at Taunton, Somerset 1st innings score looks like being the best in the 1st Division this round

Sam Lockwood: Come on Hampshire! 4 wickets to go and no batting collaspes so we're good for next season

  12. 'Middlesex need spirit'published at 14:22 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 & 32-2 v Middlesex 142

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

If ever Middlesex needed the spirit of last year it’s now.

It does seem a little flat out there. We have not seen nearly enough of that spirit all season.

  13. Ashwin taking Worcestershire up?published at 14:19 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Worcestershire 257-6 v Durham

Ravichandran Ashwin is playing a sublime innings for Worcestershire.

The 31-year-old is on 76, Ed Barnard is up to 28.

If Worcestershire reach 300 inside 110 overs and then take nine Durham wickets inside 110 overs - they'll get the six points they need for promotion.

  14. wicket

WICKET Bartlett (lbw b Patel) 5published at 14:12 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 & 26-2 v Middlesex 142

This is not going to shock you - a spinner has picked up another wicket at Taunton.

George Bartlett is trapped in front by Ravi Patel's third ball and sent on his way.

Somerset's lead is 120. Anything north of 200 will be a difficult chase for Middlesex.

  15. 19,000 up for Bangerpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 & 26-1 v Middlesex 142

Marcus Trescothick has just brought up his 19,000th first-class run for Somerset.

Decent player is Marcus. Another top innings from the 41-year-old today and surely Somerset would be safe?

  16. wicket

WICKET Thomson (c Vince b Berg) 26published at 14:08 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Warwickshire 108-6 v Hampshire

Gareth Berg strikes after lunch as Alex Thomson edges the seamer to James Vince in the slips.

Opener Dominic Sibley remains unbeaten on 67 as he continues to lose partners.

  17. Postpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Leicestershire 128 v Northants 2-0

Rob Newton and Luke Procter are opening for Northants.

If they get a big first-innings lead here, Notts face the real prospect of staying in Division Two.

Crazy to think they were a zillion points clear at the top a few weeks ago.

Come on Nick, the commentator's curse is as old as the game of cricket itself! Somerset are still in a great position.

  19. wicket

WICKET Byrom (c Harris b Stirling) 5published at 13:59 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 & 20-1 v Middlesex 142

Of course there is another twist in this match!

Ed Byrom simply chips Paul Stirling straight to James Harris at mid-off. It's a tame dismissal.

He looks furious as he walks off. 19-year-old George Bartlett comes in at three.

  20. Postpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 & 19-0 v Middlesex 142

Marcus Trescothick and Ed Byrom put on 93 for the first wicket in Somerset's first innings.

And they're off to a good start second time around. The lead is up to 113.
