  1. The Taunton pitchpublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 127-8 - lunch

Just to shed a bit more light on what BBC Somerset's Anthony Gibson had to say...

Middlesex complained to the match's cricket liaison officer about the state of the Taunton pitch last night.

A further announcement is expected later today. Points may or may not be deducted. That's all I have at the moment I'm afraid!

  2. 'Pitch decision could spoil Somerset's day'published at 12:51 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 127-8 - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset

Another Jack Leach marathon spell has taken Somerset to within touching distance of their first imperative for avoiding relegation, which is to bowl Middlesex out for less than 250.

He picked up three more wickets this morning, including the crucial one of Dawid Malan, lbw playing across a straight ball, after a defiant stand of 73 with Paul Stirling, who followed soon afterwards, smartly stumped by an alert Steve Davies.

The pitch is still offering plenty of turn and bounce, and there is still the decision of the ECB's Wayne Noon to come on its acceptability, which we've been promised at close of play and could yet spoil Somerset's day.

    Worcestershire 198-6 v Durham

Worcestershire also lose a wicket on the stroke of lunch...

Wicketkeeper Ben Cox is cleaned up by Cameron Steel.

But Worcestershire bat deep as talented all-rounder Ed Barnard joins Ravichandran Ashwin at the crease.

The India all-rounder is approaching his half-century.

  5. wicket

WICKET Chappell (c Levi b Sanderson) 21published at 12:40 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Leicestershire 95-8 v Northants

I said Northants would be desperate for another wicket before lunch, and there it is.

Seamer Ben Sanderson claims his fourth wicket, dismissing Zak Chappell for a resilient 21.

Dieter Klein joins Ben Raine in the middle.

  6. Postpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

Quite a few of the matches will take lunch at 12:40 today because of time lost to rain yesterday.

I don't like that. Too confusing.

Sibley reaches his half-centurypublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

A third Championship half-century of the season for Dominic Sibley has helped steady the ship for Warwickshire.

His 100-ball innings has included seven boundaries.

Middlesex and Somerset will be hope the 22-year-old can make a few more runs as the Division One relegation battle goes down to the wire.

  8. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 127-8

James Harris and Tim Murtagh have done well to see out the final 20 minutes or so before lunch there.

But MIddlesex are still in real trouble.

    They trail by 109 runs.

  10. Leicestershire fight backpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Leicestershire 83-7 v Northants

This is some recovery by Ben Raine and Zak Chappell.

The pair have put on 59 for the eighth wicket and helped Leicestershire recover a bit from 26-7.

Northants will be desperate for another wicket before lunch.

  11. Could it come down to wickets taken?published at 12:24 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 121-8

If teams finish level on points, most wins determines placing, then fewest defeats, then most points from head-to-head results, then most wickets taken, then most runs scored.

I'm looking into the future here...

If Middlesex are out for less than 200 and lose to Somerset, they will finish on 146 points.

Somerset would have 147 and survive.

If Hampshire lose at Warwickshire, but take exactly six points from the match, they will also finish on 146 points.

But Lancashire and Hampshire will have won, drawn and lost exactly the same number of matches this season.

What about their head-to-head results? Oh dear, both matches were drawn! Get counting the wickets taken this season folks!

  12. 'Abbott hobbled off'published at 12:18 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Warwickshire 72-5 v Hampshire

    Kevan James
    Sport Presenter, BBC Radio Solent

What a first 35 minutes. Wickets and Kyle Abbott going off injured.

Abbott only bowled 9 balls, took two wickets for no runs and then, in his 10th delivery, his back foot slipped and he hit the deck.

He's still off the field, but managed to hobble off unaided.

Meanwhile Warwickshire slipped to 12-4 but have recovered a bit since thanks to Dom Sibley and Alex Thomson.

The shenanigans down at Taunton mean Hampshire need anything from six to eight points from this game now to be safe.

Whilst they wait for their second bonus point, their first came at a blink of an eye

  13. Sussex enjoying themselves at Hovepublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Sussex 352-6 v Nottinghamshire

Michael Burgess (123 not out) and Chris Jordan (60 not out) stretch their seventh-wicket stand to 120 runs.

It has been a truly sterling recovery from Sussex who had been reduced to 107-5 yesterday afternoon by Nottinghamshire.

The visitors will be desperate to take a couple of wickets before lunch.

  14. Postpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Worcestershire 170-5 v Durham

A quick update from New Road, where Ravichandran Ashwin (31 not out) and Ben Cox (20 not out) have steadied things for Worcestershire after those couple of early wickets.

Worcestershire need a maximum of six points to be promoted - that's if Northants take all 24 at Leicestershire.

  15. wicket

WICKET Finn (lbw b van der Merwe) 1published at 12:11 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 117-8

Yep, I thought Finny was too high at nine. Gone.

Roelof van der Merwe raps Steven Finn on the pads and up goes the finger.

Middlesex eyes may well turn to Edgbaston.

Harris swingingpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 117-7

James Harris can be a very dangerous batsman.

The 27-year-old smashes Jack Leach for a couple of sixes - but the second only just goes over the head of the fielder at deep square leg.

Steven Finn is with him in the middle. Has Finny ever batted at number 9 in his career?

  18. Leics avoid lowest totalpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Leicestershire 55-7 v Northants

Good news Leicestershire fans - they've gone past their lowest-ever score of 43 against Northants.

Ben Raine has come out swinging and has moved up to 18 off 14 balls.

  19. Sibley helps Bears rebuildpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Warwickshire 60-5 v Hampshire

Dominic Sibley has buckled down at Edgbaston and has moved on to 38, as he looks to help the hosts rebuild from a rocky start.

Spinner Liam Dawson has been introduced to the attack by Hampshire and he is getting a bit of turn.

  20. wicket

WICKET Stirling (st Davies b Leach) 41published at 11:59 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 100-7

Middlesex are in real relegation trouble now.

Paul Stirling drags his back foot onto the crease line and Steve Davies whips off the bails.

Out. Stumped. That's a misjudgment by the Irishman.

With Hampshire rattling through Warwickshire, Middlesex may well be the favourites to go down now.
