Just for the record, Leicestershire's lowest-ever first-class score is 25 against Kent in 1912.

Their lowest score against Northants is 43. That was in 1968 at Peterborough.

Can they sneak another 13 runs?

  3. dropped catch

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 96-6

    Paul Stirling survives - just!

The Irishman edges Roelof van der Merwe towards Marcus Trescothick at slip, but the veteran can't cling on.

It was a difficult chance, low and to his right. A life for Stirling.

  4. 50 runs

Chris Jordan reaches his half-centurypublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Sussex 310-6 v Nottinghamshire

A tenth boundary of his innings brings up Chris Jordan's 50.

It has been a splendid innings which has put Nottinghamshire on the back foot at Hove.

Sweaty palms time for the promotion-chasing visitors.

WICKET Malan (lbw b Leach) 38published at 11:45 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 95-6

    Huge breakthrough for Somerset!

Dawid Malan smashes Jack Leach for six, but two balls later he's on his bike.

Leach strikes him on the pad, up goes the finger.

    Game on.

    Wow.

I'm furiously flicking through the record books now.

    Unbelievable scenes at Grace Road.

Michael Burgess and Chris Jordan seem to be the only batsmen enjoying themselves this morning.

Jordan has raced to 46 off just 54 balls, with nine boundaries, while Burgess is 11 runs away from reaching a maiden first-class hundred.

With Northants picking up quick wickets at Grace Road, the visitors may be starting to feel the pressure.

  8. wicket

WICKET Rhodes (lbw b Pringle) 9published at 11:41 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Worcestershire 135-5 v Durham

I wonder if Worcestershire have any idea what's going on in Leicester?

The hosts are now five down at New Road as George Rhodes goes lbw to Ryan Pringle.

They need a maximum of six points to be promoted, although that's dependent on results at Hove and Grace Road.

    Keep your calculators handy.

  9. wicket

WICKET Hill (lbw b Gleeson) 1published at 11:38 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Leicestershire 21-6 v Northants

    21-6.

I might need to look in the record books.

Lewis Hill is the latest Leicestershire batsman to go cheaply, and it's another lbw, this time to Richard Gleeson.

No batsman has reached double figures yet. And there's been a wicket at New Road...

  10. 6 runs

for Dawid Malanpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 87-5

Good morning Roelof van der Merwe.

Malan gets down on one knee and sweeps his second ball for a big six.

A bit of dodgy bounce then sees the ball fly past the wicketkeeper and to the rope.

Middlesex have avoided the follow on.

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 75-5

Middlesex pair Paul Stirling and Dawid Malan have now put on 53 in just 12 overs this morning.

It's a fine fightback from the visitors after they were 22-5.

Spinner Dom Bess has been expensive, his 10 overs have gone for 41.

Eric Timperton: Could we see Joe Denly back in the England fold? Great knock for Kent yesterday. ECB have habit of not recalling players though.

He's been in fine form Eric. 1,165 County Championship runs this season, four centuries, and an average just south of 60. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Yorkshire's West Indian opener Kraigg Brathwaite has gone cheaply at Essex, bowled by Jamie Porter.

The Tykes are 26-1 after Essex made 227 yesterday.

In Division Two, Glamorgan are struggling on 52-4, still trailing Kent by 250 runs.

Wayne Madsen is approaching a half-century for Derbyshire - they're 144-2 against Gloucestershire.

    Warwickshire 28-5 v Hampshire

Wickets galore all over the country.

Fidel Edwards picks up his second scalp as a yorker sends Tim Ambrose's stumps tumbling.

All this while Kyle Abbott is still off the field injured.

WICKET Ali (lbw b Sanderson) 0published at 11:21 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Leicestershire 16-5 v Northants

    Okay, stop it now!

Northants have reduced Leicestershire to 16-5.

And it's another lbw for Ben Sanderson, his third of the morning. This time Aadil Ali is walking without scoring.

This promotion race could go down to the wire folks!

  16. wicket

WICKET Cosgrove (b Gleeson) 1published at 11:19 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Leicestershire 16-4 v Northants

There will be some sweaty palms at New Road and Hove.

Northants are running riot at Grace Road.

Richard Gleeson bowls Mark Cosgrove to give the visitors their fourth wicket in no time.

If Northants win with 24 points, Notts will need 12 and Worcestershire six to deny them promotion.

    Somerset 236 v Middlesex 47-5

    Paul StirlingImage source, Rex Features

Paul Stirling's arrival at the crease has just given Middlesex a bit of momentum.

The Irishman has raced to 17 off 22 balls.

But it's still doing all sorts out there - batting is not easy.

  18. Burgess and Jordan consolidatepublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 26 September 2017

    Sussex 264-6 v Nottinghamshire

Michael Burgess (79 not out) and Chris Jordan (17 not out) are rebuilding for Sussex after the hosts lost an early wicket this morning at Hove.

The pair's 34-run seventh-wicket stand is frustrating the visitors, who require a maximum of 12 points from this match to secure promotion to Division One.

Northants get a third as Leicestershire's teenage opener Sam Evans nicks Richard Gleeson behind.

Come on batsmen, dig in for a bit. My fingers hurt!
