  1. Aus 18-0published at 05:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Bolton 11, Mooney 7

Mooney steers Shrubsole through the covers, two England fielders give chase, Fran Wilson cuts it off, flicks it back and Tammy Beaumont throws it back in. But not much for England to cheer so far in this innings.

There's not been any swing in this innings.

Jim Maxwell adds: I'm not convinced about the pink ball's ability to swing, except at night when the atmosphere may help it swing.

  3. Aus 16-0published at 05:14 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

Brunt shuffles her field, but a handsome drive brings Bolton four through the covers. A lovely shot from the 28-year-old from Perth - there's always something about a left-hander's cover drive to make cricket lovers purr with satisfaction.

  4. Aus 12-0published at 05:09 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Shrubsole 4-1-7-0

Shrubsole is also going to switch - after three overs from round the wicket, she's going over the wicket for the first time. But she doesn't get much change out of the Aussie left-handers, who are 20 minutes away from reaching the tea interval.

Meanwhile, TMS commentator Corbin Middlemas has noticed that Katherine Brunt is the only England fielder not wearing any headgear, despite the sunshine. "She's a hard northerner," explains Isa Guha.

  5. Aus 11-0published at 05:06 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

With the game six-and-a-half overs old, Katherine Brunt is going to have a go from round the wicket - but Australia remain unbeaten. Just a Bolton single from the over.

England would have wanted a few more - they were getting a move on, which was good. This is where Brunt and Shrubsole need to be patient and keep their cool, as opponents will be used to forming partnerships against them. I understand why Shrubsole's going round the wicket, but I've seen enough of Mooney and Bolton to know that if the ball is outside off stump, they're going to have a go at it.

  7. Aus 10-0published at 05:02 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

Bolton nudges Shrubsole for a single to fine leg to break the three-over deadlock. Mooney bides her time before square-driving a four backward of point. Both openers have five.

  8. Aus 5-0published at 04:58 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Bolton 4, Mooney 1

While Shrubsole has been bowling round the wicket, Brunt is resolutely staying over the wicket. Another maiden means Mooney has one run from 16 deliveries - shades of Lauren Winfield yesterday morning.

Good line and length from Shrubsole, but Bolton is untroubled. Maiden.

Getting England out for under 300 is one of those mental milestones for Australia, they'll be pleased to have so much of the first session to bat in. There was all that unknown on the first day about playing in twilight - but the first session yesterday was probably the best time to bat. It was disappointing with the number of starts England got, but none of them went on - only Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight passed 50.

Brunt has two slips and a gully for Mooney - it's the usual heart and effort from the Barnsley fast bowler, but Mooney sees out a maiden over.

I don't think there was any doubt that Beth Mooney would come back into the Australia side, even if she hadn't scored that hundred in the warm-up - she won't just occupy the crease, she'll score at a good clip, and she and Bolton are starting to form a good opening partnership. It's drivel that two left-handers can't play together - get your best openers out there.

Anya Shrubsole takes the second over, and she goes round the wicket to Mooney, who's also a left-hander. There's a decent appeal for lbw off her second delivery as the two slips go up - but the ball looked to be sliding down the leg side. A single brings Bolton on strike - looks like Shrubsole's plan is to bowl round the wicket to both openers.

In fielding practice this morning, Beth Mooney was hit on the bridge of her nose in slip-catching practice. Thankfully her sunglasses took some of the impact, the fourth umpire saw it and said that because it was an external blow which took place outside the playing hours, it wouldn't affect her ability to bat, so she iced it and spent a bit of time off the field.

  16. Aus 4-0published at 04:43 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

Bespectacled left-hander Bolton proved a difficult opponent for England when she made her international debut in the 2013-14 Ashes down under, and she gets Australia under way, turning a four off her toes through square leg.

Looks like a very heavy roller being used on the North Sydney Oval pitch.

Back in the days when Hampshire used to play at the United Services ground in Portsmouth, there was an extremely heavy roller used there - nicknamed "the Hercules"...

Australia are nearly ready to begin their innings. Remember, with the flip-flopped intervals, we'll be playing until 05:30 GMT when "tea" is taken for 20 minutes, then after the second session, it will be "dinner" between 07:50 and 08:30 - when you'll get another chance to hear BBC Radio 5 live's "Pomnishambles" documentary about the 2013-14 men's Ashes series.

England’s openers have done well to negotiate the first hour here with heavy cloud and poor light. Surprised the lights haven’t come on, to be honest.

With the Australia coach Darren Lehmann watching on, England have moved onto 52-0, leading by 112.

Alastair Cook has looked scratchy, playing and missing several times but still there on 17. He will be hoping to find some fluency after struggling a little on the tour.

Mark Stoneman looks more solid and has played some nice shots on 35.

Beth Mooney took a bit of a blow to the head earlier, but we've heard nothing to suggest she won't be opening the batting alongside Nicole Bolton.
