  1. Aus 24-0published at 05:55 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Boilton 16, Mooney 8

Ecclestone, bowling slow left-arm over the wicket to the two left-handers, has Tammy Beaumont under the lid at short leg. (Unsurprisingly - as Ecclestone and Beaumont are at opposite ends of the height range, if you get my drift). Bolton and Mooney add a single apiece to their score.

England throw the ball to teenage left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, who will resume proceedings after the interval.

Needless to say, I'm sure some of the Aussies will be getting ready to mock the fact that England have unearthed another player born in South Africa...

When they come back, the ball will be 14 overs old and the spinners will come into play, but the fact that the opening bowlers haven't been able to extract any movement will be a concern for England.

So, Australia will feel that's their session - having seen England add 45 to their score, they've remained unscathed for nearly an hour in reply.

    Aus 22-0

Time for one of cricket's traditions - an over of spin just before an interval. England turn to Laura Marsh's off-spin, with a short leg in place.

Marsh took 5-15 on this ground against Pakistan at the 2009 World Cup, external - there's a bit of drift, not a huge amount of turn, but Mooney plays out a maiden, and that's tea.

Brunt, bowling round the wicket, finds Bolton defiant in defence as the interval approaches - TMS's Jim Maxwell feels the game is in a "holding pattern" in aviation terms, not going anywhere but not coming in to land.

Just as the game is about to drift off to sleep, though, Bolton does well to drive Brunt down the ground for a four past the non-striker.

One thing England do know here is that Australia are not going to drop the ball and run. But this is where England could play themselves into trouble by not playing another wicket-taking bowler.

    Bolton 11, Mooney 7

It's a decent crowd again at the North Sydney Oval, but those youngsters reared on slam-bam T20 cricket may be having their patience tested as Mooney plays out another maiden from Shrubsole. Five minutes until tea.

Jim Maxwell on TMS wonders why there seem to be so many left-handers around, particularly openers - though this current England women's XI comprises 11 right-handers.

Brunt isn't giving Australia any freebies, but Bolton is proving dogged in defence.
