I was speaking to [England coach] Mark Robinson this morning and just said we need more Test cricket in the women's game. I'm not talking three-Test series, but we should play multi-format series like this in our bilateral series.

  2. Aus 110-4published at 09:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

An identical over to the last - with Marsh bowling rather than Sciver, obviously - with Perry playing out five dot balls before taking a single off the sixth.

Australia are hanging on here - England have kept it very tight in the field.

Another rapid over from Nat Sciver to Ellyse Perry - just a single off the last ball.

  5. Adelaide update: England bowled outpublished at 09:12 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

England's men have been bowled out - with ankle injury victim Jake Ball unable to bat, they've been dismissed for 207. The Cricket Australia XI need 268, with three-and-a-half sessions left, to win.

    Follow with our live scorecard.

  6. Aus 108-4published at 09:11 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    61 overs

It's still rather attritional in Sydney, the miserly Marsh is steered for a single by Perry. And there's news from Adelaide...

The problem with Anya Shrubsole is knowing how many overs to bowl her. I remember in the Test in Perth in 2014, we'd lost Katherine Brunt [who had been removed from the attack for bowling high full tosses], and Anya had a groin injury, so I just needed her to bowl. I said "you can have a week off, or a month, but I need you," and she said "alright, skipper". She'll run in, run in and run in for you - she has a big heart but you don't want to push her too hard.

That mesmerising Shrubsole spell is over, it's time for move from Natalie Sciver, but it's frustrating for her as Haynes guides her away for her first boundary.

Sophie Ecclestone's dad tapped me on the shoulder when I was walking round - he had the biggest grin on his face. It was a very special moment when I presented her with her cap yesterday.

I remember all my Test match games more than any others because they're so few and far between. You'll have those memories for ever.

    Perry 29, Haynes 1

Laura Marsh replaces fellow spinner Ecclestone - and sends down another maiden.

Marsh's figures remain sublime - 16 overs, seven maidens, 13 runs, one wicket.

I've just watched the Taylor catch again. It was a funny shot from Elyse Villani - I think it was a brain-fade, she was going to swing at anything in her half, but what a catch.

Shrubsole's 11th over yields a couple of singles - Haynes is off the mark, as sweaters are being donned all around the North Sydney Oval.

    Perry 28, Haynes 0

Perry brings up three figures for Australia with a two to fine leg.

Should you wish to watch that brilliant Sarah Taylor catch, Cricket Australia have tweeted a video clip of it. I'm sure you can find it without too much trouble.

  15. Aus 99-4published at 08:56 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Shrubsole 10-5-11-1.

Shrubsole goes round the wicket to the left-handed Haynes, a big appeal... it's sliding down the leg side, but only inches away.

It's a matter of debate whether, if Meg Lanning were fit (and Haynes therefore not captain), would Haynes still be in Australia's strongest XI? A good innings here would do her no harm on this front, but at the moment it's all she can do to survive a classy spell from Shrubsole, who has figures of 10-5-11-1.

Night has fallen. Who will prevail in the dark?

I've watched the replay of that Taylor catch and it so doesn't do it justice - which tells you how good it was. A fabulous piece of work.

It looks like Shrubsole could just be in "one of those spells".

Captain Rachael Haynes joins Perry at the crease, and Perry uses her feet well to blast a four back between the non-striker and the stumps.

We can see on the replay that the ball has deviated half an inch, and Sarah Taylor has picked it up. Villani was throwing the kitchen sink at that, and you can see Shrubsole was saying what an amazing catch it was.

    Villani c Taylor b Shrubsole 14 (Aus 95-4)

Edged, caught! What a catch! Anya Shrubsole's nagging line and length earns its reward as Elyse Villani tries to break the shackles with a big swing, it takes a faint edge and Sarah Taylor (standing up to the stumps) doesn't drop those! Great cricket from England.
