  1. Aus 83-3published at 07:44 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Perry 15, Villani 9

Perry looks like she's found the boundary again as she dabs one between slip and gully, but a good chase-and-pick-up from Fran Wilson restricts her to a two. It looks like Brunt asks the skipper for a third man, and the request is declined. It's not quite been Brunt's day with the ball - we know how devastating she can be at times, perhaps it'll be different after the sun goes down and the lights come on.

  2. Aus 79-3published at 07:40 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

It's a double change in the bowling as Natalie Sciver returns for a second spell of medium pace. But after a long spell of spin, the ball comes off the bat a little quicker for the Aussie batters with the seamers on as Perry and Villani both add one to their score.

I'm still finding these interval timings a little confusing, but we are now 10 minutes from "dinner". Honestly.

Ex-Australia all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

I like commentating with Isa Guha because we get mistaken for each other. She was in a Subway with Heather Knight somewhere in England, and the man serving her said "I know you, you play cricket... you're Lisa Sthalekar!". We used to have fierce battles on the pitch, we've brought that rivalry into the commentary box

  4. Aus 77-3published at 07:36 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

Rather than keeping the spinners going all the way through, Heather Knight is going to give Katherine Brunt a quick burst before the interval. It takes a while for the field to be set, Villani defends well, then powerfully steers an attempted inswinger wide of long leg for four.

  5. Aus 73-3published at 07:31 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Trail by 207

It's a long bowling spell from Marsh, who's into her 15th over - 14 of which have come in this spell. Villani nudges a single.

    Ecclestone 10-2-23-2

Captain Heather Knight has a quick word with young Ecclestone between deliveries - Ellyse Perry isn't normally a blocker, she's taking ones and twos when she can.

There's just over 20 minutes before we can all grab some brekky. And the game enters the Twilight Zone.

  8. Aus 70-3published at 07:25 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

The game is becalmed once more. Elyse and Ellyse add a single apiece.

  9. Aus 68-3published at 07:22 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Perry 8, Villani 1

Villani is off the mark with a single, while Perry gets down on one knee and sweeps Ecclestone for four.

  11. Aus 63-3published at 07:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

Laura Marsh keeps probing away, she's disappointed to concede a couple of runs as Perry nudges a two down the leg side.

We're about 30 minutes from "dinner", when you can listen to BBC Radio 5 live's "Pomnishambles" documentary about the 2013-14 Ashes.

A bit of news you may not have heard if you weren't with us at the start of play - James Anderson has been named as England's vice-captain for the Ashes. Read all about it here.

Elyse Villani is the new batter for Australia - Elyse (with one "l") joining her near-namesake Ellyse (with two "l"s) Perry at the crease.

It hit in line, pitched in line, a very good shout - Blackwell got a good stride in but it would have hit. A very good Test match so far for the debutant spinner.

    Blackwell lbw b Ecclestone 6 (Aus 61-3)

Three down! Blackwell is hit in front of all three by Ecclestone, and the left-arm spinner wheels away in delight as the umpire raises his finger.

It was something of a sucker punch as it came just a couple of deliveries after Ecclestone had served up a loopy full toss which veteran Blackwell had shown no mercy, swiping it through fine leg for four.

  16. Aus 57-2published at 07:12 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    37 overs

A Blackwell single brings her score into line with her partner Perry. They both have two.

Laura Marsh's figures bear repeating - 12-6-8-1. Terrific work.

  17. Aus 56-2published at 07:08 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    Blackwell 1, Perry 2

Perry is off the mark as she whips Ecclestone for two to the mid-wicket boundary.

Another Marsh maiden over to Blackwell. Frankly, the Richie Benaud chat is more interesting at the moment.

The Richies have rules. For $65 a day you get a ticket to the game and a function beforehand. You have to come with your jacket (cream, bone, white, off-white, ivory or beige), tie and shirt. On arrival, you receive your blow-up microphone, your silver wig, Channel 9 lapel badge and songsheet. Once you don the silver wig, you may not remove the wig or jacket for the entire day, no matter how hot it is.

And there's no complaining - because Richie never complained.
