And that, as they say, is that. Reports of the death of women's Test cricket are greatly exaggerated - we've witnessed a competitive game, it's just a pity that the pitch offered so little a chance of an outright victory, with only 21 wickets falling in four days to go with the 934 runs.

The players clearly love the format, the crowds will come - it's a format which can still thrive in the right conditions.

Simon Graves: The flat track was always going to produce a draw. Hard to win when the groundsman decided to set up a result for the home team before a ball was bowled.

More from Ellyse Perry: "It's been really nice to have that chance [to bat] a little higher up the order. I have always worked on my batting. There's lots of competition for spots and once you get a chance you want to make the most of it. It's been a lot of fun.

"There has been lots of strong development over the last 10 years for women's cricket. People are interested in the game now.

"They see the value in it, the skill and the entertainment. People are genuinely interested. It's been a great event so we are all really appreciative for the support."

Player of the match Ellyse Perry, speaking to Cricket Australia: "All the girls contributed and it was a good day yesterday but it was just a shame we couldn't force a win today.

"It was really great to see Tahlia McGrath do as well as she did with both bat and ball. She looks really comfortable on the front foot and she is a great addition to our squad.

"I look forward to seeing her career progress."

More from Heather Knight, speaking to Cricket Australia: "It was a tough day yesterday so it was great to see the girls come back today and really apply ourselves. I'm proud of the girls for getting the draw.

"If you're patient, like Ellyse Perry was, you can build big scores. I'm enjoying batting at the moment and I feel like I'm hitting them well.

"The conditions change here session by session so you have to deal with that. We have a massive battle on our hands for the T20s but we will take it game by game."

The public will be pleased the Ashes is still alive - Rachael Haynes hit it on the head when she said they want to win it as soon as possible, as I've been in that position and if England win game one, they can go on and win game two and three as well.

My only concern for England is that they've not played a T20 international since 2016, and Australia have been playing it relentlessly for the last few years.

England coach Mark Robinson on TMS: "It was challenging on that wicket with a slow outfield, but it was a nice rearguard action to keep it out for a draw. It was a proper game for three-and-a-half days, we had to show some good backbone. But we need pace on the ball in women's cricket, the pitch was grassless and destroyed the pink ball.

"But to have nearly 4,000 there yesterday was a tremendous effort by Cricket Australia and we saw a tremendous innings by a special player, so I don't want to sour it by talking about the pitch."

In the least surprising development in the history of cricket, Ellyse Perry has been named as player of the match.

Australia captain Rachael Haynes on TMS: "We were happy to get a couple of early wickets but England shut the game down after that. We knew it was going to be a hard-fought day, the wicket was flat but the England batters shut us out. Our goal this morning was to win, to England's credit they played really well, but now we switch our focus to T20 and we hope we can get that win quite early to win the Ashes. There might be a couple of changes but the core group will stay together.

"Given that our Tests are played over four days, perhaps that track was too flat as it made it tough for the bowlers once the ball got old. We'd love to play more Test cricket."

More from Heather Knight on TMS: "The pitch was pretty slow, the ball made it difficult to slow when it got old. It's been very difficult to take 20 wickets on this pitch, not a lot of grass on it. Whatever format you play, you need good pitches - it was attritional at times but that's the game we had to play. We can only play in the conditions we're given.

"We're going to have a day off tomorrow, the families are going to get together after training on Tuesday and then we have a warm-up game on Wednesday."

England captain Heather Knight on TMS: "It's been a long few days, but for the girls to come back today and make the game safe was pleasing. It was disappointing we couldn't force a win as Ellyse took the game away from us yesterday. We're not used to playing multi-innings game but batting with Georgia was brilliant. She's a mentally strong player, she knows her game really well, we kept it quite light-hearted and to be out there at the end was great."

Dave Evans: I wonder if the pitch would have been made that flat if the Aussies needed the points.

And as Charlotte said, England may have kept the series alive - but with both sides taking two points for a draw, Australia lead the series 6-4 so barring any washouts, England need to win all three T20s to take the series 10-6. If Australia win one of the games, the best England can finish is 8-8 which would mean Australia would retain the trophy.

It was so important that England didn't lose a wicket in that middle session. But Tammy Beaumont and Lauren didn't let Australia in last night, and England had to preserve their wickets.

It's plain and simple now - England have to win the three T20s to win the series.
