    Knight 18, Elwiss 13

Wellington goes round the wicket, tossing it up outside leg stump, and Elwiss can thrust her front pad at anything outside the line, knowing that she can't be out lbw. Maiden.

Not really any turn for Bolton, but Elwiss is going along nicely, and Heather Knight - herself a part-time off-spinner, albeit one with plenty more international wickets than Bolton - is untroubled.

I wouldn't be averse to Nicole Bolton bowling a few grenades here. Stick some snow on it.

While Charles Dagnall on TMS has to read part of the Shipping Forecast which was accidentally cut off earlier, Elwiss steers Jonassen for a single.

And if any of you are listening to TMS out on the high seas, hope all's well in Dover, Wight, Portland, Fitzroy and everywhere else.

    Knight 18, Elwiss 11

Time for Australia to turn to their sixth bowler - it's opening bat Nicole Bolton, who bowls part-time off-spin off literally just a couple of paces (she even starts her run-up in front of the umpire). The sort of bowler who would be perfect if you were looking to race through a few overs to avoid an over-rate penalty.

She's only previously bowled one spell in international cricket, taking 2-18 from three overs against Sri Lanka in the World Cup earlier this year. And this time round, her first over just yields a couple of singles.

  6. Eng 109-2published at 06:23 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

Elwiss helps herself to a single, finally reaching double figures from her 52nd delivery. Knght's favoured sweep shot also brings her a run.

Perry's not been particularly effective with the ball today - Australia will have a new ball available in 22 overs' time, so I wouldn't expect she'll be going too much longer if she's required to take the new rock. That said, she bowls a maiden to Knight, who has scored 16 from 77 balls.

Australia need to put fielders where they're going to take wickets. A deep cover point is not going to take wickets.

  9. Eng 107-2published at 06:15 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    Knight 16, Elwiss 9

Wellington's still finding a bit of turn, nothing major, but Elwiss sweeps a two to fine leg.

I have to say, I'm a sucker for an old-style cricket scoreboard, and North Sydney Oval has a lovely old one.

England can't say Ellyse Perry's not been generous here, that's another no-ball... the deficit is down to 63, but at the rate they're going, they'll still be behind Australia at dinner.

Knight lifts Wellington over the square-leg umpire, that's in the air for a while... but safe and they run a single. The leg-spinner then comes close to a second wicket when she spins one sharply past Elwiss' outside edge. England breathe a sigh of relief.

What a moment for Georgia Elwiss, who sat on the bench during the World Cup, didn't play in any of the ODIs at the start of this series and has now been drafted in for this Test.

  14. Eng 102-2published at 06:05 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    Knight 15, Elwiss 6

Knight nudges a single to leg, that's the hundred up for England. A Perry no-ball keeps the scoreboard ticking, and an Elwiss single reduces the deficit to 66.

Three close catchers in again for Amanda-Jade Wellington's leg-spin, although Alex Blackwell is no longer wearing a helmet at slip, having donned the familiar Baggy Green. Captain Heather Knight gets England going again with a swept single.

Gun-barrel straight from Perry, and Georgia Elwiss defends a maiden over - although she leaves the last delivery which swings in and just whistles past her off stump. As they say, there's only two types of leave - a good leave, and a bad leave. And that, i guess, was a good leave.

That ws a typical session of Test cricket, not a lot in it for the bowlers but they toiled away. Winfield and Beaumont played well, but that delivery by Wellington for the wicket made us think: can she do that for nine more deliveries? I still believe leg-spin is the hardest to bowl.

We've barely had time to draw breath, but the players are ready to resume - Australia have had a "huddle" before walking out onto the outfield.

Ellyse Perry is going to take the first over after the interval.

Former Australia batter Belinda Clark on TMS: "We had a streaker at one of our practice games in Yorkshire once. He very neatly folded his clothes on a chair, then ran on. We had some old female umpires who were 78 or 80 and didn't know where to look."

Former Australia batter Belinda Clark on TMS: "I think Ellyse Perry will go down as one of the greats of the game - she started off as a pace bowler but she's more of a batting all-rounder now. She's got a lot of cricket in front of her, and it was great she was able to pull it all together yesterday on such a big occasion."
