    BBC Test Match Special

With only six wickets having fallen in the past five sessions, the draw is now the overwhelming favourite. Time for dinner.

Keep your ears on TMS as they've been speaking to England men's coach Trevor Bayliss, as well as ex-Australia star Justin Langer.

You can hear more from JL on BBC World Service's weekly "Stumped" programme, which is available as a podcast.

The English batters were defiant in that session, Knight and Elwiss have played really well.

    Eng 152-2

Australia bring in a short leg, Perry switches to bowling round the wicket, a short ball is the slightly predictable result but it doesn't bounce much and Knight clubs it for a single through mid-wicket to take England's score to 150. After a no-ball, Elwiss rears away from another bouncer, but even Larwood and Voce might struggle to get any pace and bounce out of this pitch.

England trail by 16. Having batted through the session, Knight (45) and Elwiss (24) deserve their round of applause.

Georgia Elwiss managed to occupy the crease well against Australia at Canterbury in 2015, but Ellyse Perry got her out early in the final session. I'm sure she'll be thinking of that.

Elwiss continues her defiant defence against Schutt. Maiden over.

Probably time for one more over before dinner. I think we all deserve a bite to eat after this session which - let's be fair - has not been the most gripping session of Test cricket you'll ever watch. Not the players' fault - a day four pitch should be offering more than this.

Perry gets a bit of bounce with the new ball, but Elwiss has supported her skipper well today. A short ball is helped down the leg side, it lands just short of Schutt at fine leg - did she see that late? - and they pick up a single.

    Knight 44, Elwiss 22

Knight does well to dig out a yorker from Schutt. 10 minutes to dinner.

By the way, I've been posting the minimum number of overs every so often - but if they follow similar playing regulations to men's Tests, once we get into the last hour of the game (ie from 09:30 GMT), there's the chance that both sides could shake hands on a draw if a positive result is unlikely.

That's the thing with a new, hard ball - it travels to the boundary quicker.

  10. Eng 148-2published at 07:36 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    Minimum 35 overs left

Ellyse Perry will share the new ball with Schutt, can she produce a magic spell like she did in the last Test at Canterbury in 2015? Heather Knight fluently drives her first ball through the covers and they run two. A single means she has 44 from 152 balls, a captain's innings in the circumstances. Perry tries a bouncer to Georgia Elwiss, but it's too wide to trouble the right-hander.

We're just under 15 minutes from the 40-minute dinner break.

    Eng 145-2

The ragged mess that is the 80-over-old ball is disposed of, and the second new ball is handed to Aussie pace spearhead Megan Schutt. First ball, Knight is hit on the pad, big appeal... no, that was easily going down the leg side. The skipper adds a single, there's some inswing for Schutt with the new ball, but Australia don't have long to make it count...

    New ball available

A moustachioed fan is having a little lie-down in one of the stands at the North Sydney Oval, and it's not difficult to understand why, as the draw becomes more and more likely the longer England can survive.

The tourists trail by just 24 now, after Knight moves to 40 with a single. And the new ball is available.

  14. Eng 142-2published at 07:25 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    Knight 39, Elwiss 21

It's eight bowlers used today by Australia, as Elyse Villani comes on to bowl what could euphemistically be described as right-arm medium pace.

"Heather Knight would hate to get out to Elyse Villani, so this could be a good battle," says Charlotte Edwards on TMS.

But Knight punishes a short delivery, cutting for four. Villani, who took rather a lot of tap when asked to come on as sixth bowler during the World Cup, can't trouble the England skipper.

Australia rotate their bowlers, it's another over of leg-spin from Amanda-Jade Wellington, and another maiden.

Coming up on TMS in the dinner break, by the way, they'll be hearing from England men's coach Trevor Bayliss.

There were good one-day pitches in Coff's Harbour. I reckon they'd have made good Test pitches too.

If nothing much happens with the second new ball, I'd say it's curtains for the game.

Knight helps herself to another boundary, expertly late-cutting Haynes for four.

Having lost two wickets in the first session, England are just over half-an-hour away from reaching dinner without any further loss. (Crosses fingers).

Yesterday, it seemed like a huge mistake that this game wasn't on live television [in Australia]. But today backs it up, and I'm afraid it's because of this pitch.

Charlotte Edwards adds: I said on the first day, if we're going to play Test cricket, the pitch has got to have more pace in it.
