it's a disappointing end to a pretty dull day. But for me, it's all about the pitch - there's been no life in it from day one, and it's been very hard for the players to get wickets. It's been too flat, too slow and it's been quite a dull Test match today in the end.

And that's it - Heather Knight and Rachael Haynes shake hands, and a draw is agreed.

Elwiss, on 41, is five short of her highest Test score (46) - she sees off a maiden from Jonassen. The drinks come on - and we think they can agree a draw at any point from now. Depends if the two captains are of one mind in that a victory cannot be achieved by either side.

TMS scorer Ric Finlay: We need to give Knight enough time to get to 91 and then get out. It's the lowest score that's never been made in women's Test cricket!

    Knight 79, Elwiss 41

As though the heart has gone out of Australia, they turn back to Nicole Bolton for some part-time off-spin bowled off two or three paces. Knight, with some free runs on offer, rocks back and clubs another four through cover point. England lead by 38.

Both captains have to agree on a draw. What if Heather wants to stay out there and see if she can get a hundred?!

Elwiss needs a finger taping up. Looks like Jenny Gunn is doing the honours. The clock is ticking round towards a draw being agreed.

SamC: This is a good example of why 5 day tests must continue. It's a shame that is only been four, there could have been a good finish.

Draw can be agreed at 09:30 GMT

Knight on-drives Jonassen for four... the bowler's not happy at a slightly half-hearted chase from young Wellington, but after bowling 36 overs in this innings, it shouldn't be a surprise if Wellington's hamstrings are a bit tight!

Jonassen then serves up a full toss, Knight bashes another four through the covers - she's up to 75 and England are past 200.

Elwiss' sweater is properly grubby now after that dive.

Isa Guha adds: As they don't play much Test cricket, she won't need it again for a while!

Uh-oh - just when England were 15 minutes away from shaking hands on a draw, Elwiss is going to have to dive to make her crease. There's a long delay while the third umpire has a look... and she's not out. Phew.

Elwiss helps herself to a couple of twos against Jonassen and that's the century stand for England.

England have done the job they were here to do today. They've saved the Test match. The fact that the scoring rate on days one and two was only just over two an over tells you everything - the pitch ain't good enough.

    Knight 66, Elwiss 36

Wellington begins the 100th over of the innings, she's done the hard yards for Australia today and has gone for less than two an over. Just a single from this one, giving her figures of 35-9-68-1.

And the total attendance for the Test is revealed as... 12,674. Well done to the good folk of Sydney for turning out.

  15. Eng 185-2published at 09:10 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

Draw can be agreed at 09:30 GMT

Elwiss drives and misses at Jonassen, once again it just misses the stumps, but it evades Healy's clutches and they run a bye.

Another appeal from Australia, but more in hope than expectation, as Knight is hit on the pad by a delivery which clearly pitched outside leg stump, negating the prospect of lbw. Knight has a big smile on her face, and can be proud of her efforts for her side today.

    Knight 66, Elwiss 35

While Australians are renowned for their never-say-die attitude, the body language of the side suggests that the game is nearly up, and we're 25 minutes away from a draw being agreed.

But then Knight nearly plays onto her stumps... we mustn't speak too soon!

    Isa Guha
Ex-England seamer on BBC Test Match Special

England could have gone with Jenny Gunn, who's an all-rounder, or Kate Cross who had joined the group just before the Test, but there's no pace in the pitch for her to be as effective as she was at the Waca in 2014. Mark Robinson said if they had gone with an extra bowler, they might have gone with Danni Hazell, who's a spinner. So I don't think selection has had a big effect on the game.

Wellington whistles through a maiden over to Knight. It's slowly creeping towards a draw.
