We said that Amanda-Jade Wellington would cause the most problems for England, and Australia will be delighted with those two wickets. They smothered England for the last half-hour, so it's important that England remain positive, don't go into their shelves and keep eating away at that deficit.
It's intriguingly poised. We talked about the first session being important - but let's take it a session at a time. Remember, England lost five wickets for not many runs in the last session at Canterbury.
Eng 98-2
Knight is into double figures as Wellington strays down the leg side and the England skipper sweeps it for four. It's the only blemish on another good over, and the umpire knocks the bails off to signal tea.
England trail by 70, and there are a minimum of 66 more overs available today.

Elwiss stands tall to defend a maiden over from Jonassen. It's so quick, and the players race round between overs, that we're going to have time for one more over before tea.
Remember, the way the intervals run in this Test, this break is just 20 minutes - then there will be 40 minutes between the second and third sessions. "If you last that long," I can hear a few Aussies chirp.

Who's the best chirper you've played with?
Alyssa Healy. I think it runs in the family.
Knight 9, Elwiss 5
Australia have their spinners bowling in tandem for the first time today as Amanda-Jade Wellington returns. There's a slip, silly point and short leg posted - or as Jim Maxwell calls them, "a slip, a road-block and an under-the-nose". Wellington serves up a juicy full toss or two, but Elwiss won't be tempted - just driving the ball along the ground. Time for one more over before the break.
The Knight-Jonassen duel continues - it's stalemate for now, as the England skipper negotiates a maiden over as tea approaches.
In fact, four of the last six overs have been maidens - Jonassen has figures of 5-3-9-0 in this spell.

The ball's 47 overs old, so it's interesting that McGrath can still get a bit of movement in the air.
Minimum 70 overs left
Elwiss doubles her score with a two wide of mid-off, while Alyssa Healy, standing up to the stumps, attempts what would have been a great legside stumping if Elwiss had not kept her back foot grounded.
And an England-Australia Test (men's or women's) would not be the same on TMS without Jim Maxwell's enthusiastic announcement of the Shipping Forecast...

Jonassen spins down an uneventful maiden to Knight.
Meanwhile, there may be a possible riot at North Sydney Oval - as a sign has just been placed at one of the concession stands, saying that they've sold out of ice creams!

Knight 9, Elwiss 2
Georgia Elwiss is off the mark with a two against McGrath - though she nearly feathers an edge to the keeper as she tries to run the ball down to third man.

A long way to go for England. They need to be as ruthless as possible, aim to bat through the day and that will be their biggest challenge.
Minimum 73 overs left
England could do with a captain's innings from Heather Knight here. Let's be positive - this is a player who scored 157 in only her second Test, against Australia at Wormsley in 2013. She plays out a maiden from Jess Jonassen.

Georgia Elwiss in at number four - having been selected ahead of Jenny Gunn for her batting, she averages 30 in Test cricket but will hope to exceed that figure today. For now, it's all about getting through to tea, and she shows McGrath a straight bat for the rest of the over.

This is a huge wicket. Lauren Winfield was hit flush on the toe, McGrath got some shape into the right-hander, Winfield was slow onto it and Australia are knocking them down one by one.
Winfield lbw b McGrath 34 (Eng 89-2)
Gone! McGrath spears in a yorker at Winfield's feet, she tries to jam her bat on it but that hit pad before bat - and the umpire immediately lifts his finger. Australia are cock-a-hoop, and have removed both openers with 25 minutes remaining before tea.
Winfield 34, Knight 9
Knight sweeps Jonassen for her first four of the innings. Having been in the doldrums for a while after losing Beaumont, I sense that England have picked up a little.

I thought Tahlia McGrath looked a little stiff in practice this morning, not surprising as this will be the longest game she's ever played in.
Minimum 76 overs left
It's spin from one end and seam from the other as Tahlia McGrath replaces Megan Schutt. Just a single from a tidy over.
