The Australians maybe adapted a bit quicker today to changing plans and used their field cleverly.

It's about being proactive and not being afraid to try new things, whether it's just rolling your fingers across one as a bowler or trying a new field.

Injured England bowler Toby Roland-Jones is braving the night shifts with us in Salford and chatting down the line to Jonathan Agnew at the Gabba.

He's fielding your questions over on Test Match Special at lunch - listen in by clicking the tab at the top of this page or over on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra.

It's gone up a notch today after a slow burn yesterday.

I enjoyed every ball of that. England will be feeling not too bad - maybe six or seven out of 10.

    Cheers Amy, top work.

Well then, what a session that was. England on the cusp of real control for a long time only to be undone by some improved Australian bowling and a few rash decisions.

Handy runs from Ball, Broad and Anderson to creep the total above that psychological milestone of 300, mind.

Great Test so far, can't wait to see how England's bowlers and Australia's top order face off on this pitch.

On that note, I have a pressing appointment with some food.

Jack Skelton will take you through lunch. Remember to get your questions in for Toby Roland-Jones, who will be on Test Match Special for the next 40 minutes.

A tale of what might've been from England. A bit of naive batting and some loose shots cost them in the middle order.

I'm kind of happy with 302 - the short ball is difficult to score against and England will have learned valuable lessons of how to ball here. But they must bowl well.

This is being picky but Australia, actually, should have bowled England out quicker than that. They let England hustle their way to 300.

Still, it's the same old, same old for England. A middle order collapse - they lost six wickets for 56 runs - has cost them once again.

There was an inevitability about it really with Broad heaving it away on the leg side and seeing what he could muster. Australia have fought back strongly this morning but some useful tailend runs right at the end.

Gone! England are all out for 302.

Josh Hazlewood - who was brought back rather surprisingly in favour of Pat Cummins - bangs it in short, Stuart Broad swishes and Peter Handscomb takes a good catch in the deep.

    That'll be lunch, too.

Geoff Marsh - Shaun's father - is in the stands and he looks highly unimpressed as that drop is replayed. Broad smacks another couple through mid-wicket and then picks up another short ball from Starc and clonks it for four. That brings up England's 300, which I'll be honest, I thought they weren't going to get to. Highly entertaining stuff.

Oh dear! That has gone up a mile - he had such a long time to get in position but in the last moment Marsh found himself in the wrong position.

    Shaun Marsh! What is that?

That is a dismal drop from Marsh, I'm afraid. Broad completely skied a short ball from Starc, no control behind the shot and Marsh didn't get himself into the right position. His hands were behind his head as he went for the ball, he dropped it onto his Baggy Green and pushed it over the boundary rope in the process.

I thought Warner had a stiff neck? He must be on decent painkillers. He took that catch like a dog leaping for a frisbee.

David Warner is sledging James Anderson by referring to Graeme Swann being up in the commentary box. Genuinely. Not threatening him with the short ball, not crowing about Australia being on top. No. "Your mate is in the commentary box." That's dreadful. He should start on -20 runs. Anderson responds by playing an utterly terribly pull shot that gets the ball over Tim Paine's head and away for four. The umpires then intervene as Cummins and Anderson have a chirp at each other.

James Anderson has got his collar popped as he meanders to the crease. He survives the barrage of short balls from Starc.

England have lost five wickets for 40 runs.

Jake Ball has played that quite nicely actually but only into the hands of a diving David Warner, who's taken that very well.

    What a catch!

David Warner might not be able to move his neck but he's just taken a corker at leg slip! It was short from Starc, Jake Ball chased it and slapped it towards slip. Warner had to react quickly and went leaping to his right to snaffle the catch up.

What a bit of fielding! If you were getting ready for your lunch snooze, then, er, you've got an extra half hour to wait.
