  1. Aus 317-7published at 120 overs

Beautiful! Shaun Marsh has been quiet in accumulating his total today but this drive is crashed through extra cover David Warner-style. Jimmy Anderson isn't impressed. He turns and stomps back to his mark. Five dots follow and thankfully for England Pat Cummins will be on strike to Broad in the next over.

I batted 10 before, and I didn't like it. I could have moved up to number nine. I didn't want to. I liked number 11!

  4. Aus 313-7published at 119 overs

    Marsh 54, Cummins 0

Stuart Broad has been the pick of England's bowlers today, I reckon. He gets another to nip away off the seam but the ball is pitched back of a length and the slow nature of this pitch allows Cummins to draw his bat away.

Oooof! That's a good bouncer from Broad. Cummins has to rock his head back at the last second to get out of the way. Two more bouncers follow. Be careful Stu. He's quicker than you.

  6. Aus 312-7published at 118 overs

    Marsh 53, Cummins 0

Pat Cummins is the new batsman. He made a crucial 42 in the first test when England had a chance to knock over the Aussies cheaply in the first innings. Joe Root's side cannot afford anything similar today.

England allow Shaun Marsh a single in the middle of the over to give Jimmy Anderson two balls at Cummins. The first is blocked and the second nips back a long way and catches the batsman on the hip. No danger though.

Mitchell Starc is a stroke player. He doesn't like being tied down. You felt, before the tea break, the big shot wasn't far away. He just picked the wrong ball.

    Starc c Anderson b Broad 6 (Aus 311-7)

A moment after stupidly given away runs with a childish overthrow, Stuart Broad makes an important breakthrough in the first over after tea. It's a short ball from Broad to Starc (I'm sure we'll see the favour returned later) and the Australian left-hander players an awkward pull and chips the ball to Jimmy Anderson at mid on.

Three more wickets needed for England to end this innings.

Shaun Marsh's half-century came from 138 balls in 221 minutes, with five fours.

There was so much talk about Shaun Marsh's selection, but he has produced the goods at number six. He's looked solid. Immovable.

  12. 50 runs

50 for Marshpublished at 116.1 overs

And Shaun Marsh gets his ninth Test fifty on the first ball after the break with a regulation clip off the hip. That's his second half-century of the series. He's batted really well for a player who has struggled against England in the past.

I want Australia to bat until tea and then declare. There's some batting left in that Australian changing room.

  14. Aus 306-6published at 116 overs

    Marsh 49, Starc 4

I still can't get used to the 20 minute break being the first one in the day. The players caught me a little by surprise as they walked out for this next session but here they are.

Stuart Broad is going to start off after tea. Shaun Marsh is on the brink of a Test fifty...

  16. First session recappublished at 05:51 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

Here's just a quick recap of that session at Adelaide...

It all started very well for England with Stuart Broad dismissing Peter Handscomb lbw on the third ball of the day. But wicket-keeper batsman Tim Paine came out, batted aggressively and took advantage of some good fortune as he played and missed on a number of occasions.

Both he and Shaun Marsh were given out lbw - both off Jimmy Anderson - only to be saved by DRS with the ball shown to be bouncing over the top of the stumps.

Marsh and Paine but on 85 before the latter became Craig Overton's second Test wicket, hooking straight to Moeen Ali at deep square leg for 57.

Mitchell Marsh then joined Marsh at the crease and has helped the Aussie total beyond 300 which looks very dangerous indeed.

  17. Stokes fails on Canterbury debutpublished at 05:48 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2017

If England haven't had a great session, Ben Stokes has had a worse day.

The all-rounder, whose absence from the Ashes has already filled enough column inches, scored only two and failed to take a wicket on his Canterbury debut in New Zealand's domestic one-day competition.

To make matters worse, Canterbury lost.

News from Dehli and the phenomenon that is Virat Kohli.

The India captain has just become the sixth player to hit double centuries in consecutive innings. He is currently 210 not out in India's first innings against Sri Lanka with the hosts on 463-4, on the back of his 213 last week against the same opposition.

He is also now the first player to score six (SIX!!!) double centuries as captain. And he's batting in a cap. That man can't get any cooler.

This is not going well, is it? England have plugged away but things have not quite gone their way with the ball passing the edge on a number of occasions as well as those two overturned dismissals.

You just know when England do get to bat, with the extra pace of the Australian quicks, those edges will be found and the pink ball will swing around corners when the lights come on. There is also the added worry of the amount of turn on this pitch with England likely to be batting last on it.
