Olly Smith: Bowlers are being let down by the batsmen (again). imagine Jimmy taking 5 wickets and having a stormer only to have to face 90+mph bowling still needing a shed load because our top order can't bat.

After Broad and Anderson, who are quality, our second-string bowlers are only any good when there is movement around. When we’ve got English conditions- wow, our four bowlers look good. When it’s a typical Australian day and a flat, dry, grass-less pitch, they’re ineffective.

  7. Australia recall Marsh for Perth Testpublished at 08:51 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

A bit of news from Australia camp. They have added Mitchell Marsh, brother of man of the match Shaun, to their squad for the third Test at Perth.

The all-rounder has played in 21 Tests, including in the last Ashes series, but has not played a Test since March after undergoing shoulder reconstruction.

He scored a a century in Perth for Western Australia two weeks ago...

Anthony Wilson: When your ‘Number seven’ batsman is your third top run scorer in the series some big changes need to be made, moving him up the order is one but maybe bring in STOKES??? And also Crane and Wood as bowlers.

Anthony wants England to make a number of changes for the next Test. Agree? Send me your line-up for Perth.

Root will be really down. I hope the players are down too because you want them to feel hurt by it. The Ashes are virtually gone. I think 5-0 is definitely on the cards.

    4. Second-innings batting

This could be a little harsh but can the England second-innings batting display be blamed for the defeat? They started today in the game. The whole country was hopeful. Joe Root was at the crease and England were halfway to their total with more than half of their wickets remaining.

They ended up being bowled out in an hour and 45 minutes...

Sam Taylor: People completely believe this has 5-0 written all over it. It really shouldn’t. They have no unplayable bowler and their batting was boosted by our bowling. Should have been our match after winning the toss. Got to do something different. Got to bring in Ben Stokes.

Sam's still positive. I must say he is in the minority on #bbccricket.

Anyone just waking up? You're about to be knocked back down to Earth with a hefty bump. England have lost. They are 2-0 down in the Ashes series after being bowled out in an hour and 45 minutes.

The day started with many predicting a record-breaking England victory but that positivity was ruined on the second ball of the day when Chris Woakes edged behind off Josh Hazlewood.

'At least we still have Joe Root' were the words muttered up around the country but the England skipper only lasted a matter of minutes, dismissed by Hazlewood in his next over.

Australia were excellent. Mitchell Starc took up the attack after Hazlewood's early burst and he did for the England lower order. He had Craig Overton out lbw, Stuart Broad caught behind before bowling Jonny Bairstow to seal the win.

Joe Root wasn't too downbeat at the post-match news conference. He still believes England can come back. He says the belief is still there in the dressing room.

I don’t know how you tell players not to play bad shots. I don’t know what goes on in the dressing room. Are the coaches telling them the right things? If they are, some of the players are not listening.

The two shots Vince played were shocking. He played a good innings in Brisbane but if you keep playing shots like those two you’re not going to have a very long Test match career.

    3. First-innings batting

Let's face it when England were bowled out for 227 in their first innings we all thought the match was done. No one made a half-century and it could have been even worse but for a partnership of 66 from Chris Woakes and Craig Overton which took the tourists beyond 200 from 142-7.

Worryingly though seven England batsmen reached double figures before many fell to poor shots. Cook, Vince and Root edged behind when they didn't need to play while Bairstow and Moeen both offered return catches to the bowlers.

Is it the batters who are at fault?
