  1. Tea - Eng 175-4published at 07:11 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2017

84 runs from the session for the loss of two wickets. Advantage Australia you'd say but England not totally out of it.

  2. Eng 175-4published at 53 overs

    Malan 42, Bairstow 14

What's your tea-time snack of choice? We are deliberating a coffee and bacon sandwich run here. I've been up 23 hours now. Need a boost.

Australia don't. They'll be delighted with this session.

Could be the last over before tea, though Nathan Lyon can rattle through them...

It looks an excellent pitch for batting. I can't remember a ball that's misbehaved.

  5. Eng 172-4published at 52 overs

    Malan 41, Bairstow 12

Bowled! Mitch Marsh is there to give the frontline lads a breather before tea but he still has enough to feather one across the edge of Dawid Malan's bat. Lovely line and length.

England's momentum has all but stopped. They've scored 20 off the last 10 overs.

Shot though! Malan clips a lovely boundary, Geoff Boycott wants him up at three...

  6. Eng 168-4published at 51 overs

    Lyon 10-4-22-0

Nathan Lyon just churns out the overs. Conceding no runs.

  7. Eng 168-4published at 50.2 overs

Ten minutes until tea. England will have the quicks rested up coming at them again soon.

You can be seduced here by the bounce, and bowl too many too short. When you bowl it short and the keeper has to leap to take it, it looks great. But that's not the ball that causes the problems. It's the one that's at chest height, bowled at the body, that causes problems. And then when it swings, it's terrific.

  9. Eng 168-4published at 50 overs

    Malan 37, Bairstow 12

Mitch Marsh trundles in, still 83mph. Jonny Bairstow misses out on a full toss, just getting one, before Dawid Malan also misses the chance to pick up a boundary.

England are in a recovery stage. Nothing silly needed from these two batsmen.

Mitch Marsh has played in all five Sheffield Shield games this season but only bowled in two. He has taken 116 wickets at 28.9 in 75 first-class matches.

It's good to see Bairstow at six. It's weird in a way that we haven't seen him there before. It's been a weird series. Most of England's batsman have looked at some stage like they could get a score, and yet the highest score is still Vince's 83 from the first dig in Brisbane.

  13. Eng 165-4published at 49 overs

    Lyon 0-22

Nathan Lyon is loving life at the moment, all jokes, suncream and japes as he skips in to bowl.

He's getting no spin though and England's batsmen should be looking to score. They started the day in aggressive mode to Lyon but now are back to just pushing away.

It was a long time ago when I was a Western Australia player. I got some runs here, actually. You needed to be able to cut, or if there was width, to use that bat in your favour. But the proper batsmen who played here, they would leave the ball so well.

  15. Eng 165-4published at 48 overs

    Malan 36, Bairstow 10

Dawid Malan had a shaky spell under some real pressure but he's kept the scoreboard ticking over, flicking Josh Hazlewood away for three.

Again, making a start is not enough for England though. They are 2-0 down in the series and need a win from somewhere. They need a century from someone.

This partnership is up to 34. Joe Root will be praying for 134.

England need to make at least 350 to be clocking up par.

  19. Eng 162-4published at 47 overs

    Malan 33, Bairstow 10

Our first mention of the Fremantle Doctor, the breeze which blows across the Waca, as Nathan Lyon probes away at Dawid Malan.

Great name for a dog, the Fremantle Doctor. Shout that down the park.
