Rachel T: Steve Smith has failed again. Absolutely love ODI cricket!

  2. Aus 221-6published at 43 overs

Joe Root has had a long and often difficult winter but he has taken two wickets today and is still able to hurl himself at the ball at mid-on to prevent a run, completing another accurate over from Plunkett.

  4. Aus 219-6published at 06:23 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

Debutant Alex Carey is the new batsman, the left-hander fresh from a century in the Big Bash. But he cops an early one in the grille, luckily for him only off the slow bowling of Rashid.

A nice attacking line and Rashid drew Stoinis into the shot. Rashid has a knack for picking up key wickets late on in the innings.

    Stoinis c Buttler b Rashid 4 (Aus 216-6)

Another success for Rashid, a tentative poke from Stoinis and Buttler pouches it safely. The batsman didn't look happy, probably with the indeterminate stroke.

  8. Aus 216-5published at 41 overs

White is the new man, capable of some lusty blows himself, but it's only his second ODI since 2011. He scored an unbeaten 68 in the Big Bash the other day but almost runs out Stoinis but the throw from Woakes is just too high.

A brilliant bit of deception from Liam Plunkett with the slower ball. Aaron Finch thought he had a bit of meat and drink there but he didn't. If England get two more wickets, we're looking at a very different score - it could even be 280.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 40.1 overs

    Finch c Roy b Plunkett 106 (Aus 213-5)

Got him with the slowie! Finch deceived and he drills it straight to mid-on where Jason Roy pouches it safely in the bread basket, the first wicket to fall to seam today and Plunkett's 100th ODI scalp.

This stems the flow and it might encourage Eoin Morgan to leave the spinners on a tad longer.

  12. Aus 213-4published at 40 overs

It's not to be big-hitting Cameron White next, it's Marcus Stoinis, playing his 10th match. He hit 11 sixes in an unbeaten 146 against New Zealand in only his second ODI a year ago and made 60 against England at the MCG. What can he come up with in the final 10 here?

He was miles down the track and that's the easiest of stumpings.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 39.2 overs

Marsh st Buttler b Rashid 36 (Aus 209-4)

Marsh is beautifully deceived in the flight and was almost walking back to the pavilion as he realised how perilous his plight was. A timely wicket for Rashid.

  16. Aus 209-3published at 39 overs

    Finch 105, Marsh 36

Plunkett back in the attack and as he drops short Marsh arches his back and hoists him over mid-wicket, it lands a few yards short of the foam boundary boards and trickles over for four.

I reckon Australia will get about 320. That's if Finch goes big from here and they've got wickets in hand.

  18. Aus 200-3published at 38 overs

The 200 comes up for Australia, but the fastest fifty was the first one, from 52 balls. Both teams have used their reviews for the innings, remember.

A fine, fine knock. He had batsmen depart around him at the start of the innings but he's remained not just obdurate but kept the scoreboard ticking along admirably.

  20. 100 runs

100 for Finchpublished at 05:57 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

He clips Rashid for two and the century comes from 104 balls, with nine fours and a six. Off comes the lid, he kisses the badge and acknowledges the huge cheers of the sun-kissed crowd.
