There is a slip, plus the thickset figure of Finch at short-leg under the helmet now for Starc to Buttler, a bold final bid from Steve Smith perhaps. The England wicketkeeper calmly blazes one past Finch and it's plain sailing for England as Sweet Caroline booms out over the public address.

On paper this is fairly straightforward for England. But one more wicket could make it interesting...

Tye trundles in again, with a large black cloth flapping around at the back of his trousers. Root clips the opening delivery through the leg-side for two and is manoeuvring the ball expertly. Hopefully no curse there, Root fans.

It's another nothing shot, similar to the Hales dismissal. He's just prodding at the ball.

    WICKETpublished at 27.1 overs

    Morgan b Starc 21 (Eng 157-4)

Starc gets his man. It was quick, as always, 141k's, but it was a bit of tentative prod from Morgan and the inside edge crashed into the stumps, prompting jubilant celebrations in the pitchside pool.

The bearded Western Australian Tye, still searching for his maiden ODI scalp in his second match, sends down a high full toss but escapes the no-ball and the free-hit punishment, but Root clips the final ball of the over through mid-wicket for two two keep the scoreboard rolling along.

Mitchell Starc, tormentor of England in the Ashes, well one of them, with 22 wickets, returns for his fifth over and Morgan, who got a century on this ground four years ago, finds a gap through backward point to collect two and move to 20.

Thanks Jack. Well, 121 more needed from 150 balls. England lost two wickets in barely two overs but they are not going to mess it up from here are they? At the same stage in their innings, Australia were 129-3.

  14. Eng 150-3published at 25 overs

    Target 271

Head sneaks through another over, with Morgan driving for two before working it into leg for one.

Root then jabs it down to long on for a single that takes England to 150 at the halfway stage. The tourists are on top, although Australia have some hope after those two quick wickets.

I'll have you back over to Jamie Lillywhite to take you through to the close.

We thought 300-plus would be a good score but England did really well to restrict Australia to 270, which is about par. With the lights on and potentially the dew helping the ball to skid on, I don't think England should struggle with this target.

  16. Eng 146-3published at 24 overs

Good response from Richardson, forcing Morgan to be more cautious before England's captain chips a cutter into leg for one to finish.

Eoin Morgan is in the mood to counter attack after those two quick wickets. The England captain just flicks his wrists, using the pace of Richardson to guide it away over wide fine leg for six.

    Target 271

Travis Head returns with his part-time off=spin and Morgan gets off the mark with a sliced edge past gully for four. That wasn't too far away from the diving Warner.

That's better from Morgan, pulling powerfully away through mid-wicket for four. It was dragged down and Morgan didn't miss out.

  20. Eng 129-3published at 22 overs

Captain Eoin Morgan strides out to join Joe Root.

It looks like Richardson did Bairstow for pace a bit there, but the ball wasn't really full enough or short enough to look to hit over the top.
