Only the second time England have passed 300 in an ODI at the SCG. Their highest score is 333-6 in 2011 - a match they lost.

The highest score at the ground is South Africa's 408 against West Indies in 2015. If Woakes had come in earlier England might have eclipsed that!

This is a winning total if England come out and bowl with the intent they showed in the first match at Melbourne. Moeen Ali has bowled with great control in this series and Adil Rashid has been dangerous.

Eoin Morgan has what he needs up his sleeve to defend this total, if his bowlers bowl well.

Mercsport: Great innings that from Buttler. The difference in resolve, ruthlessness and mentality between the England Test and ODI sides is massive.

Tom: Incredible listening to that, awesome batting from Buttler and Woakes. Could be a match-winning partnership...

That's a game-changing innings from Buttler and a game-changing partnership with Woakes. Buttler has had the perfect options for this pitch. At times his strokeplay has been brutal, at other times he's shown tremendous finesse.

That partnership then... 113 from 11.5 overs, Woakes with 53 of them and Buttler 55.

Who needs Stokesy when we have Woaksey?

    Matt, Winchester

Another great effort. On current form I'm not sure how Stokes get back into this side?

Chris Woakes has been the perfect foil for Jos Buttler. He showed brutal power at the Gabba in the second match and he's done it again. He also paced his innings really well.

Six fours and four sixes for Jos Buttler's fifth ODI century. And how about Chris Woakes, who made that key 39 the other day to guide England home in Brisbane. Today, he plundered 53 from 36 balls with five fours and two sixes in his third ODI fifty.

So we wondered if England could get 80 from the final 10, they have scored 102 and finished with a highly competitive 302.

A fabulous knock from Jos Buttler. He leaps in the air and screams out in pure delight. It's been a stuttering England innings but Buttler has held it together and exploded brilliantly at the end.

It sat up beautifully for Chris Woakes and he saw it coming. He has played wonderfully well.

Keep Woakes on strike then - he has pulled Starc for six to reach fifty from 35 balls.

The 100 partnership from 70 balls but they are not done there, Woakes flips the 20th four of the innings. Three balls left and Buttler is on 98 but off strike.

This partnership is phenomenal. They're hitting the boundary at will against this excellent Aussie attack. This total is now above par.

  20. 6 runs

    Eng 288-6published at 49 overs

Buttler moves into the 90s with his second six of the innings, hoisting it over long-on and then carves a four through mid-wicket, with Australia captain Smith's blood pressure going through the roof. A free hit for a no-ball on height and Woakes another four. The last five overs have produced 62 runs.
