    Eng 206-6

Fairly easy to work out the possible scores from 200-6 after 40 overs, even for the mathematically challenged amongst us, but can England score eight an over and get to 280? Buttler records his 15th ODI fifty in his 102nd match and it has come from 52 balls.

The aforementioned Starc, whose first six overs went for 24, is neatly clipped off his pads by Woakes and it runs away for four, the 12th of the innings, despite a slide from Stoinis on the mid-wicket boundary.

The left-armer almost gains his revenge with a rapid one timed at 141kph from round the wicket but there is no contact with the bat.

The last two matches haven't been close by any means but this is set up to be a really good tussle. It's not easy to score on this pitch.

Now Chris Woakes came in and saw off Mitchell Starc in full flow at Brisbane, seeing England home with an unbeaten 39. Timing the ball nicely immediately, he keeps the scoreboard moving with some early singles.

Moeen had more time to get himself in. He's had two wild yahoos at the ball - one reprieve and then he's bowled.

Moeen Ali tried to swing that out of the ground but he's really not on song with his batting at the moment.

    Moeen b Marsh 6 (Eng 189-6)

Ignominious. Ungainly. Out. Dropped on two, he attempts another heave across the line and drags it into the timbers. Moeen is officially not in good touch.

  8. Eng 189-5published at 38 overs

Australia have dropped two catches but their ground fielding has been impressive and another slide on the ropes restricts Buttler to three. The chisel-jawed Stoinis sends down the 10th wide of the innings. Australia have 11 wins to England's 10 at the SCG and have won the last four matches here.

Mitchell Marsh, having been denied a wicket with the first ball of his new spell with that dropped catch, sends down successive leg-side wides. How many can England muster from the last 13 overs?

Cameron White had absolutely no clue there. It was swirling around but that's shocking.

  12. dropped catch

Moeen dropped on 2published at 06:11 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2018

An awful shot from Moeen, the top edge went up and came down with snow on it. Cameron White had a lot of time to think about it in the covers but he makes a Horlicks of it and it goes through his hands and hits his chest. A reprieve for Moeen - what can he make of it?

  13. Eng 176-5published at 36 overs

    Run-rate 4.89

Now Moeen, with a highest score of 40 in the Test series and dismissed by a beauty from Starc for only a single in the previous match. No problem taking on the short one from Cummins though and his controlled hook gets him off the mark with a single.

Just as England were looking to accelerate, that's the wicket they really didn't want. It'll potentially mean another period of rebuilding with Moeen Ali now.

A fairly innocuous delivery but it's caught the top edge of Morgan's cross bat. It's one of those pitches where batsmen feel like they're never quite in.

    Morgan c Paine b Hazlewood 41 (Eng 172-5)

A big breakthough, the end of a partnership of 65 between England's two middle order powerhouses. A tame dismissal really, Morgan trying to run it down to third man and feathering a routine catch to the keeper.

  20. Eng 161-4published at 33 overs

    Run-rate 4.88

A consolidating fifty partnership is recorded in 10 overs. Pivotal to England's chances that these two remain for some time, it goes without saying. Next man Moeen Ali is due a few runs shall we say, but Chris Woakes looked in fine touch the other day in Brisbane.

Morgan drives the returning Hazlewood for three, the combative David Warner sliding along in front of the rope to prevent a boundary.
