Katya Witney: What is the point in calling up Glenn Maxwell if they evidently have no intention of playing him in this series?

So no Aaron Finch for Australia - he's scored two centuries and a rapid 62 in the series so will be a big miss for the hosts.

Glenn Maxwell was drafted in to replace him, having been controversially overlooked in the initial squad - and then had his training questioned by Steve Smith.

But Maxwell doesn't play today. Instead, Travis Head - who looked very shaky in the first two matches - returns.

Tom Curran is a very different bowler to Liam Plunkett. He has got great variations and skills in the middle overs and will be very handy at the death. If he's asked to, he can bowl seam up at the beginning of the innings too.

Australia captain Steve Smith, speaking at the toss: "It's muggy, overcast and there's grass on the wicket. Hopefully we can take a few wickets and take advantage of the conditions.

"It's been a difficult series and a difficult 12 months in this format of the game. It's Australia Day so it's the perfect opportunity to put together the perfect 100 overs."

England captain Eoin Morgan, speaking at the toss: "If we were forced, we would've done the same.

"The wicket looks beautiful and doesn't look like it will break up. But the overhead conditions are quite strange for Adelaide - it's muggy and sticky so we would've looked to bowl, but we're happy to do whatever really.

"It depends if it does nip around but we'll adapt accordingly. We'll maintain a positive and aggressive attitude, taking it to the opposition, but the ball might not do anything.

"Liam Plunkett went down at Sydney so is going to be out 10 days, which rules him out of the fifth match at Perth as well.

"We know how hard it is to beat Australia away. It's been three tough games so far and today will be another over."
